Is the Prince coverage over-the-top or is it just me? It’s continuing this morning. Not being a fan, I never knew he was so popular. It’s as if there is no other news in the world.

    • I thought it was a bit overdone yesterday, even as I was reading complaints that Fox News was ignoring Prince because he’s black. Yeah, on twitter people just lie.

      • GATXER

I had to turn it off after Shep…….Was never a fan….but there was no “news” there……..I was surprised how many people work for Fox News that knew him…..but its not like anything new was happening.

I will say this…..for someone whose name I hadn’t seen or heard of in years…….he seems very popular today.

On that twitter lairs…I saw that very funny.

      • gcblues

ask any working musician and you will get an honest answer.

    • Grandpa D

Prince was at his peak in popularity when today’s newsies were growing up. They put his coverage at the top by trying to relive their youth.

    • Larry Kelly

Never having bought a Prince album (own 3 Michael Jackson) I was only moderately interested in two aspects:
      1) why people thought he was a big deal
      2) the mystery of the demise.

Plenty of (1) though it still didn’t strike much of a chord with me. Only TMZ zeroed in on (2).

      • Grandpa D

Save those Jacksons; should become collector’s items once the Tubman’s are issued.

        • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

          Only uncirculated ones.

      • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

I never even knowingly heard one of his songs. That said, (2) may be very interesting.

    • Cecelia

I didn’t know that body builder Chyna had died until I saw her pic online with Prince’s pic.

      • Larry Kelly

When Triple-H dumped her for Stephanie McMahon, it was all downhill.

      • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

I didn’t know that she was making doity movies until they mentioned it on the local news. I guess that they thought that it was important.

    • gcblues

yes. prince was a weird character, but like the great Robert Cray, he is a musicians artist. every time you listen to Robert, you are taking a lesson, same with Prince. his personal life, religion etc apart he was a complete musician. he wrote, scored, arranged, did most of the vocals, an excellent guitar player, excellent players wanted to play with him, he also did all the technical production, sound, video etc. he has more discs out than the Beatles, maybe more than Robert plus vaults of recordings unpublished. James Brown thought he was cool, that compliment is not to be taken lightly. some of his stuff is strange, and i could care less about his pop tunes but if you do a fair you tube sample of him live you will understand why he gets the props he is getting. he earned them.

      • Cecelia

Now I know why I never cared about him.

        Too tiring.

        • gcblues

as is a lot of art. he accomplished more than most people ever will. props for that.

This is partly a philosophical argument. What constitutes news? Is news only news worthy of TV when it generates decent ratings? Or is news also an obligation where you don’t just tell the stories that rate but also the stories that don’t.

I look at it this way. The Nightly Broadcast news shows outrate most cable news programs night after night. They cover stories cable news does not. So it’s not quite so straightforward to argue that CNN is putting on stories that will generate eyeballs when the nightlies put on stories CNN isn’t covering which generate even bigger eyeballs.

Cable News has become more risk averse than the Nightly Newscasts. That’s pathetic.

    1) Winter weather
    2) Donald Trump
    3) terrorism

Looks like not a single member of #BLACKLIVESMATTER in North America is siding with Kelly Ripa.

Who the hell burnt the flon?

  • Cecelia

Johnny, your link to Concha’s piece goes to something about that pretentiously named Toure guy.

    • That’s because I’m an idiot. Fixed now. Sorry about that.

      • Cecelia

        You are not..

        An idiot, that is…

      • Joe Concha

I think it was international to ensure my 7th place finish.

I knew Megyn changing her hair was a power move from Fox.

    • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

I liked her hair better the old way. But, if she is happy with it and her husband is happy with it, it’s none of my business.

      • Cecelia

Don’t rain on Hair Psychology, N-N.

It has done nothing to you.

        • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

That’s why I said that it was none of my business.

          • Cecelia

Just why do you think we have links about Megyn Kelly’s hair?

            It’s the WORLD’S business.

          • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

Actually, the world would be much better off if people minded their own business. However, the perpetually offended Left would never let that happen. They are the modern version of Alice Kravitz, and we are all poor Abners who have to suffer through it.

  • Re: “Concha: What accounts for the impressive rise of Jesse Watters?”: Bill told Jesse he needed a speech coach?

    • GATXER

Yea…I saw that on Walters show in a interview with Bill…..or maybe it was Bills show with Walters…….but they did talk about that…..it was funny.

  • Today’s most popular links:
    5 and Don
    4 resurfaces
    3 rise of Jesse Watters
    2 done with MSNBC
And the most popular link in today’s links…
1 Megyn named to People’s most beautiful list, explains her haircut.

    • Nixon – niihpikiiookani

Megyn (sigh!). She’s no Lily Langtry, but still is in a class by herself.
