New Dog, Old TricksThere's a new gal in the Outfoxed flophouse. She'll fit right in.
They're hiring over at the newshounds (another fine product of the
Outfoxed cabal)! One can only wonder what the job requirements for such a
position would be. (Experience in grammar and spelling not required...must be
well versed in creative fiction...accuracy and honesty discouraged...ability to
doctor quotes essential.)
The new cur in the kennel is "Donna", and we have already seen a few samples of her talents: Fox has a new expression - 'We've Been Told.....'...Comment: I'm sure the 'we've been told' is being used the same way that 'some people say' has been used on Fox. This is possibly the single most fatuous article title the newspoodles have ever foisted on the users of Al Gore's internet. The expression that probie Donna splashed in her bold-type headline turns out to be something said not by a Fox reporter, a Fox contributor, or even a Fox janitor. The unspeakable phrase was uttered by an interview subject! To the maniacal mastiffs, this means Fox has a new expression! But stupidity alone is not enough to get you hired as a newshoundette. Toss in some sloppiness, ideally coupled with an unhealthy dose of dishonesty, and you know they'll be ready to sign you up: This is where it got confusing. [Carl] Cameron said that the President met with the President of Italy first at dinner and expressed regret for the death of the Italian Secret Service Agent last month. Then Cameron said, no, he didn't discuss it with the President of Italy... That is certainly confused, but not on the part of Mr Cameron: CAMERON: Earlier today the President did, however, have a meeting with the Italian President, Carlo Ciampi. They discussed the Middle East, Iraq, and Afghanistan. It was closed doors; we do have a picture there we can show you. Mr Cameron was certainly clear about what was discussed, and at no point does he claim that the President discussed this incident with Ciampi. (Donna is starting to get the hang of this.) CAMERON: The White House re-expressed regret over last month's incident in Iraq in which an Italian intelligence officer was accidentally shot dead by US troops. It did not come up between President Bush and President Ciampi today. Now the President just moments ago wrapped up a dinner with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and at that meeting, we were told, the President was prepared to re-express his condolences for that incident.... So Donna couldn't keep straight what Cameron said about only two different meetings. And to complete her baptism into the doghouse of deceit, she rewrites Cameron's quote, just so she can make a snarky comment: ...he had dinner with the Prime Minister and he was 'prepared' to talk about the 'accident' (notice the wordage). Yes, note the "wordage": CAMERON: ...the President was prepared to re-express his condolences for that incident... Donna pretends to quote all of two words from this sentence, and falsifies one of them. Perhaps the next time that the President wants to keep a 'low profile' Fox can come up with someone more coherent than Carl Cameron. Perhaps the anti-Fox terriers can come up with a "writer" who is coherent enough to report what somebody actually said without jumbling it into an inchoate mess, let alone falsifying the "wordage". But then, she wouldn't be welcome in the kennel. posted: Fri - April 8, 2005 at 12:48 AM j$p  send | |
