You Don't Say?When the Outfoxed gals commit "media criticism", why is finding the
truth in what they write like playing "Where's Waldo"?
The newshounds (another fine product from the Outfoxed mob) have learned
well the tricks and chicanery of their masters. They are all in heat over John
Kerry's statement about the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. Their fulmination
starts out on other matters, but we'll go straight to the meat
of their
complaints:
Later, after CNN had already (at 11:27am EDT) reported Kerry’s remarks about the “Swift Boat” ads (accusing Bush of letting front groups do his dirty work for him & challenging Bush to discuss their respective Vietnam-era military records by saying “Bring it on!”), & interviewed Max Clelland [sic] (11:37am EDT) about the controversy, FNL decided they’d better nip this in the bud. Let the record show that FNC played Kerry's remarks at 9:51 am, right after he made them. The remarks were played again at 10:34, and reported yet again at 11:14. At 11:40am (EDT) Major Garrett reported on Kerry’s remarks & showed the clip of Kerry making the statement. He then showed a clip of John O’Neil [sic]... This is an archetypical example of the Outfoxed distortion tactics that the hounds have learned so well. They want the reader to believe that Garrett showed a Kerry clip and immediately tried to blunt it with a clip from O'Neill. But are they telling the truth? CLIP: [SEN JOHN KERRY]: But here's what you really need to know about them. They're funded by hundreds of thousands of dollars from a Republican contributor out of Texas. They're a front for the Bush campaign. And the fact that the President won't denounce what they're up to tells you everything that you need to know. He wants them to do his dirty work. GARRETT: Now the Swift Boat group has told Fox it's raised nearly $500,000 since it began criticizing Kerry with its television ad. Its two biggest donors are well known Republican contributors. One is Bob Perry of Houston, the other Harlan Crowe of Dallas. Perry has given the group $200,000 and Crowe has given it $25,000. Now Kerry's also said he's eager to debate the President or any other critic about the choice he and George W Bush made during the VietNam war. President Bush served in the Texas Air National Guard, but questions persist about months during which he did not show up for duty in 1972. CLIP: [SEN JOHN KERRY]: Of course the President keeps telling people he would never question my service to our country. Instead, he watches as a Republican funded attack group does just that. Well if he wants to have a debate about our service in VietNam, here is my answer: bring it on. GARRETT: The Swift Boat vets have been in Washington meeting with reporters all week, and are producing a second anti-Kerry commercial. They say they've had absolutely no contact with the Bush campaign and won't stop criticizing Kerry even if the President asks them to. CLIP: [JOHN O'NEILL]: I'd say forget it... Was there a little something omitted from the doggies' report? Only Garrett's reporting of the swift boat funding, Garrett's reporting of the Texas contributors and the amounts they paid, Garrett's reporting of the questions about Bush's National Guard service--and the second clip from Kerry's speech. It's difficult to believe that all of this just escaped the notice of the accuracy-obsessed newshounds. It's hard to miss that much information...unless of course you do so deliberately. Tom Kennedy got it right: It's not what you say that counts; it's what you don't say. posted: Thu - August 19, 2004 at 04:21 PM j$p  send | |
