Now You See It, Now You Don't!The Outfoxed gang believes in full disclosure...for about 3
minutes!
The producers of "Outfoxed" were embarrassed by USA Today--the
paper revealed that the handful of memos highlighted in their crockumentary were
an unrepresentative sample. The movie simply ignored the other memos that didn't
fit the tint and would have given some balance and context.
So this morning the Outfoxed website posted all 33 of the memos--and what do you know, just about every one they didn't use was an example of perfectly reasonable news judgment. Some were funny (John Moody has a wicked sense of humor) and others were deadly serious. But were they "damning"? Puh-leaze. Always the first on the story, our friend Cablenewser quickly digested them and offered summaries. He didn't find them exactly "damning" either. And then within minutes, Outfoxed wiped the memos off the net. That page now contains a statement that they will publish the memos "if Fox will give us permission". OK, has the laughter died down? The entire movie is an act of thievery--all the Fox footage therein was stolen without permission. (Even the title is stolen from someone else's book about the Fox entertainment network.) In fact, the Outfoxed cabal made a NY Times reporter promise not to call FNC for a statement until the very last minute, so that Fox could not assert its legal rights. (Also, perhaps, so that FNC wouldn't be able to mount any kind of rebuttal This is the "movie" that is supposed to challenge the journalistic ethics of Fox.
