Don't Do As I Do, Do As I Say

Do the Outfoxed gals practice what they preach? Or, to put it another way, do pigs fly? Updated! More things to retract.

It’s Monday, and they’re up and running over at the newshounds (another fine product from the Outfoxed cabal). And the pups are all in a lather about a subject one would think they would want to avoid--retractions:
Last Friday (10/8), I noted that at 11:33am (EDT) David Lee Miller filed a report about school info (floor plans, photos, bus schedules) for school districts in 6 states being found on a computer disk in Iraq -- he did mention that there's no specific threat.

Yes he did:

DAVID LEE MILLER: It’s very important to say at the outset here that there is no specific terror threat that is directed at any school...Officials say the information is widely available on the internet...The federal government is advising schools to take steps to improve security...but again, we want to underscore here that there is no specific terror threat that is directed at any school.
Over the weekend, I discovered -- from other news sources -- that not only was there "no specific threat", but the "insurgent" turned out to be a member of an Iraqi civic group...

Where does nancy get the term “insurgent”? She puts it in quotes, but amazingly enough, Miller never used the word!
Apparently FNL, like a certain political figure who shall remain nameless, doesn't feel the need to admit mistakes.

What mistakes would those be, nancy? What exactly was wrong in Miller’s original report? And don’t say using the term “insurgent”, since that was purely your imagination.
CNN, the NYTimes, the LATimes & other responsible news orgs have published updates noting this aspect of the story.

Note that when discussing other outlets nancy changes from retraction to “updates”.
But you didn't hear this on FNL this morning...

Well, that means it never happened, right, nancy? Because Fox is supposed to hold their reports until nancy calls them and says, OK, I’m watching now, you can do your update. FNC updated this story the very next day; the first time was on Fox & Friends, Oct 9, 9:40 am:

PAGE HOPKINS: The FBI says a computer disk found in Iraq with detailed information about US schools has no link to terrorism. The disk was made by an Iraqi man doing research. The feds say he has no ties to Al Qaeda or Iraqi guerillas. Info found on that disk included manuals and building security diagrams from an Education Department website.
...& you won't find it on foxnews.com (I just checked).

Yeah, and you did a great job, didn’t you?

The ultimate irony: nancy titles her thoughtful screed “We Don't Need No Stinking Retraction”. This coming from the newspoodle who falsely claimed Fox wasn’t covering protest marches, and who regularly makes whole fistfuls of errors. The newspoodle site teems with scores and scores of documented falsehoods, mistakes, and lies--and how many of these have the pooches corrected with retractions or “updates”?

Update: Nancy commits more journalistic sins in misrepresenting a report on Kerry's New Soldier book:
William LaJeunesse then dutifully proceeded to repeat the claims about "The New Soldier" -- which has been out of print for more than 30 years -- being deliberately bought up by the Kerry campaign so it wouldn't be available to the public...

In fact he said nothing of the kind:

LA JEUNESSE: Among the Senator's many accomplishments, this is one he doesn't talk about. It's called New Soldier. He wrote the book as the Senator returned from VietNam. Critics say this one actually showed up on, or a copy showed up on Ebay for about $500. And while the words were written 33 years ago, critics say it leaves an indelible mark on the Senator's campaign today.

LA JEUNESSE: Like it or not, Sen Kerry's service in VietNam is an integral part of his campaign. What you may not know is that Kerry wrote a book about it, one that's extremely difficult to find.

LA JEUNESSE: First published in 1970, The New Soldier is long out of print. Supporters say that's why it's hard to get, not some conspiracy to make it disappear.
...having 2 clips from an unidentified older white man saying how the Kerry campaign bought up all the copies of the book...

HUGH HEWITT: There's been a story for a long time, never proven conclusively, that over the last couple of years, the Kerry campaign has been buying up copies of New Soldier, and that as a result there's not many available.
LaJeunesse then noted that the "ghosts of Vietnam" aren't ready to be laid to rest, & Quinn agreed, with a sigh.

The reference to a "sigh" is as authentic as the use of "insurgents" above.
