The Dreaded L-Word

The Outfoxed gals set the standards; we see if they follow them.

To the newshounds (another fine product from the Outfoxed cabal), a day without finding spin on Fox News Live is like a day without...what, quiche? In any event, newspup nancy is off and running, engaging in a little spin of her own. To set the scene, consider what she wrote regarding Dick Cheney’s comment about not having met Sen Edwards:
...it's already been documented elsewhere that this particular statement by Cheney was...the dreaded L-word -- yes, a lie.

Nancy has defined the standard, and we will apply it:
Brigitte Quinn announced that Kerry is in Colorado prepping for the upcoming debate on Friday & there are no events planned for Kerry today. She also announced that an appeals court has upheld the seizure of Rush Limbaugh's medical records, gave a little background on why this was an issue & added the comment that, while the criminal activity with which Limbaugh has been charged is a felony, it's "rarely prosecuted in Palm Beach County" [comment: reassuring the faithful that all's right with the world?]

But Limbaugh has not been charged with anything. Bridgette Quinn made that abundantly clear when you report her actual words:

QUINN: Rush Limbaugh’s people, his legal defense, saying that prosecutors illegally siezed his medical records from his doctor’s office without telling him about it first. Limbaugh, who’s 53, under investigation as you might know for allegedly duping doctors into giving him overlapping prescriptions. Now that is a felony, but it was also rarely prosecuted in Palm Beach County. Rush has not been charged with any sort of crime.

So that particular statement by nancy was...the dreaded L-word--yes, a lie.
At 11:02am (EDT), James Rosen led off the pro-Cheney charge with a report from the Bush campaign. Rosen opened using the phrase "make no mistake about it" (a phrase that Bush uses often) & -- over video of Bush arriving to a wildly enthusiastic crowds [comment: of course they're enthusiastic, they're pre-screened] & a rousing Sousa march accompaniment --

Only the march music was being played over the speakers in the hall where Rosen was reporting from. And the video didn't show the audience, only Bush walking to the podium. So this particular statement by nancy was...the dreaded L-word--yes, a lie.
At 11:05am (EDT), Steve Brown chimed in with a report from Englewood, CO, about how Kerry is preparing for the debate. But the video Brown showed was Kerry sitting on a couch, calling Edwards to congratulate him on last night's debate [comment: no cheering crowds, no rousing music].

Apparently nancy forgot what she wrote in the second paragraph of her “report”: Kerry had no public events scheduled today. So how could there possibly be cheering crowds and marching music? Wouldn’t that make it a little hard for him to hear Edwards over the phone? Perhaps nancy believes Fox should have dubbed in cheering crowds and a few choruses of Stars and Stripes Forever, just to make it "fair".
At 11:10am (EDT), Quinn interviewed two of Fox's "Beltway Boys", Fred Barnes & Mort Kondracke. Barnes called Cheney "effectively grumpy" & said that Cheney won on foreign policy, Edwards won on domestic policy.

BARNES: The first half on national security policy and Iraq and terrorism, Cheney won that going away...and the second half was on domestic policy and John Edwards was much more comfortable and did better when it got to domestic policy...
QUINN: Would you agree that Cheney won?
BARNES: Yeah, I would agree.

So this particular statement by nancy was...the dreaded L-word--yes, a lie.

And what of nancy's colleague, newspoodle judy? She had her own moment of glory today:
[Kelly] Wright reported that an ABC poll found Cheney the winner while a CBS poll of undecideds showed Edwards won. Earlier on Fox and Friends, Fox mentioned the ABC poll, but not the CBS one.

From Fox and Friends, 7:19 am:

STEVE DOOCY: It's interesting. The CBS News poll regarding the Vice-Presidential debate last night, they talked to a whole bunch of undecideds, according to CBS Edwards was the winner by a margin of 41-28%.

So this particular statement by judy was...the dreaded L-word--yes, a lie.

Stop it! This is really cruel. "Shooting ducks in a barrel" by comparison is "hard work". Are you taking advantage of the veracity challenged or merely the chemically damaged (too much bleach)?
