The Book of Lies

Secrets of the Fox haters' playbook. It's a primer in perfidity, courtesy of the Outfoxed gals. With J$P Video!

The more one monitors the machinations of the Fox haters, the more transparent their trickery becomes. Their playbook of pretense only has so many pages in it, and they keep rerunning the same tired techniques. Here is a precis of some of the feeble swindles that are the stock in trade of the newshounds (another fine product of the Outfoxed mob).

You can paint any picture you like if you cherry-pick the colors. Just ask Donna:
Trace Gallagher filling in for Shepard Smith on Studio B today spoke with Max Schulz, Sr. Fellow at The Manhattan Institute... The segment was about the high gas prices...This whole segment was a set up, a propoganda [sic] piece I believe contrived between Fox and the Manhattan Institute to promote the drilling of Anwar, and off the coasts of California and Florida.... Where was the balance? I saw none.

What is the probie not telling us? How about the fact that just two days before, Studio B did a similar segment with Tyson Slocum, of Public Citizen, who opposed the drilling and called for windfall profits taxes:

Did Donna complain that it was a "set up" to "promote" higher taxes? Did she ask "where's the balance"? No, in fact her article on that broadcast makes no mention at all of the segment with Mr Slocum! Yelp when a conservative is interviewed, but when it's a liberal, don't even report it: the classic "invisible man" tactic. Dishonesty? Check.

But then a reader posts about Mr Slocum's appearance on Studio B and asks why it wasn't reported:

His comments are immediately deleted each time they are posted, and the probie proudly announces that the echo chamber has been purified:

Censorship? Check.

Then there's newsyorkie Melanie, whose absurdity meter goes to eleven:
Fox also aired a chyron at the bottom of the screen during most of the segment. It read: NY Sheriff Arresting Illegals Thousands of Miles From Border... In Fox Land, talk of the "border" means the only border that counts - the Mexican border. What racists.

Yeah, they're racists, just like Paul Krugman and the New York Times, not to mention PBS. But our favorite example is the newshounds themselves:
Hannity Plays Cowboy at the Border

In newshound-land, talk of the "border" means the only border that counts: the Mexican border. What racists! Hypocrisy? Check.

Race also figures in the latest doggie dust storm: their overwrought hysteria about the Duke rape investigation. We have Janie, who rails against correspondent (and attorney) Megyn Kendall:
Yesterday on "Special Report with Brit Hume" (4/25), Fox Correspondent Megyn Kendall filed another report on the Duke Rape case, during which both Hume and Kendall mentioned that suspect Collin Finnerty went to court yesterday on unrelated charges, but refused to mention what those "unrelated charges" were.... During the segment filed by Kendall she said that Finnerty was in court on "unrelated charges". What both failed to mention is that Finnerty was in court on assault charges...

There's an entire chapter in the Fox haters' playbook about misquoting, and here the tampering was so obvious that even the Average Joes in the kennel had no trouble spotting the deception. Before long, a commenter posted the actual transcript of the report:
  • MEGYN KENDALL, FOX NEWS CORRESPONDENT (voice-over): Fallout from the Duke rape case continues to mount for defendant Collin Finnerty who appeared in a Washington D.C. courtroom today on unrelated assault charges.

Oops. What is little Janie to do? Stonewall!
Occasionally, Fox transcripts are edited. I am going to go home when I get off work and double check to the tape(I very well maybe wrong, it happens). If I am, I will delete the article, or change the wording...
More trickery. It wasn't a Fox transcript; it appears to have come from Lexis/Nexis. What happened when Janie went home and checked her tape? An excellent question. That was three days ago, and the article still stands, with no correction or retraction made. [See update immediately below.] Does that mean she was right all along? In a word, no [QuickTime video clip]:

The very thing the newspooch asserted she didn't say, she did. Doctoring quotes? Check.

[Update: As noted in the comments, Janie did eventually post a correction. If it was there when we last checked, we missed it, because we were looking for her to do what she had promised: change the wording to make it accurate. What she did was add a postscript after the end of the article. But we salute her for correcting the record. Tadeusz, who pointed out her mistake, has been banned by the newshounds for telling the truth. That should cut down on the number of corrections they do in the future.]

But when they care enough to smear the very best, the curs fall back on the most honored ritual in the haters' manual: the lie. And the bigger, and more frequently repeated, the better. This one is outrageous enough to make it our Lie of the Week. Newspooch Marie-Therese has been spouting it for for some time now:
the gaggle of mostly rich white guys employed by FOX News have been smearing the woman's reputation and jumping to the defense of the white students...

Since repetition is the key to propaganda, the beat goes on, and she magnified the mendacity again this week:
the pundits at FOX News have, to a man and a woman, abandoned their self-proclaimed support for victims of assault and mercilessly denigrated the young African-American woman who has accused members of the Duke University Lacrosse team of rape.

How ridiculous is this, given comments on Fox by Lis Wiehl, Greta van Susteren, Wendy Murphy, et al? We could rattle off over a dozen names, but here's a sampling you can see for yourself [QuickTime video clip]:

Newshounds lying? Check.

Will it happen again? You can make book on it.

Honey,

You might want to go back and check and stop lying to YOUR readers. I posted a correction that very night. It's at the end of the article. Might try reading sometime!

Well you said you would change the wording, and I waited, and waited, and you never changed the wording. You still haven't. I didn't see your postscript at the bottom of the article because I was looking for you to do what you promised: change the wording. But I do appreciate that you had the honesty to make the correction, and have added an acknowledgement of that to my article--in the article itself, not as a postscript.

It's too bad that people who point out your mistakes get themselves banned from your site. I wouldn't dream of doing that. I want people to point out mistakes, because every correction makes the site that much more accurate. The newshounds will certainly not have as many corrections to make in the future, since you ban the people who point out where you are wrong. But it's your site, and you have a right to censor whomever you like. Thanks for commenting.

Johnny,

It's interesting that you automatically assume/insinuate it was ME that banned Tadeuz, as it was not.

You didn't mention to your readers that I actually THANKED tadeuz for pointing out the mistake. Wouldn't want to tell your readers that?

I neither assumed nor insinuated anything. It's clear you thanked Tad for his correction, and handled the situation responsibly. But that doesn't do much good when your site bans him from posting. Exactly which of your rules of posting did he violate? I know it wasn't you that did it, but perhaps you can ask your hound colleagues and get back to us. As far as I can tell, the only rule he violated is, don't point out where the newshounds are wrong.

Again, thank you for commenting.

Johnny: Funny how the Newshounds never comment about On The Record with Greta Van Susteren.

On Friday night's discussion of the Rush Limbaugh case, all four of Greta's legal panel of four lawyers, apparently all with Democratic Party ties all bashed Rush in unison and thought he should have gone to jail.

Where was Janine Pirro for some fair and balanced analysis?

What Say You, Newshounds? The silence is deafening.

But they did find time to write up an article claiming that Fox News is portraying Limbaugh as a victim. I guess saying anything about Greta's show would kind of pour cold water on that.
