To Err Is Still CanineThe gals from Outfoxed bay at the moon about the evils of Fox News,
while their own mistakes and inaccuracies pile up like cordwood.
How many things can the newshounds get wrong? Their site (another
fine product from the Einsteins who produced Outfoxed) howls about Fox News but
their own shoddy standards of "reporting" give us new respect for the exalted
journalism of the Weekly World News.
We kick off our concert of cur corrections with a bit of canine mental telepathy: When Rick Folbaum joined FNL at 11:35am (EDT), he interviewed Michael Feldman (Dem) & Larry Sabato (one of FNL's favorite guests & GOP, altho he tries to pretend he's neutral). When did Sabato (who said just a few weeks ago that Bush would need a "miracle" to win) become a Republican? According to the poodles, just now! He "tries to pretend he's neutral", you see, because when the hounds' doggie sense starts tingling, they can read minds. But the pups aren't through: Folbaum noted that things change quickly during war, & Sabato agreed. RICK FOLBAUM: Professor, the case for change, how tough is that a case to make especially while we're engaged in war? LARRY SABATO: It's a tough case to make, not only because we're engaged in war, but also because the economy is improving. Is it a great economy? No way. Is it getting better? Demonstrably. Therefore it's a tougher case to make in the fall than it appeared to be for John Kerry in the spring. Conditions change, fundamentals change, and that's why President Bush is resurging in part. During this entire 6-minute segment, they showed a lot of video of Bush & Kerry on the campaign trail, waving, shaking hands, etc, intercut with the talking heads. I really wish I had a way to time these quick shots to the millisecond, because I swear they showed more Bush than Kerry. ![]() The mongrels even criticize the paid ads that run on Fox, and what do you know, they even get the ads wrong: At 10:18am (EDT), I switched on FNL in the middle of the first of these ads, sponsored by a group calling itself "Move America Forward"....This first ad included the statement that Saddam Hussein was linked to the 9/11 attacks... Would it surprise anyone to know that 9/11 wasn't even mentioned in the ad? HOWARD KALOOGIAN: We're proud that coalition forces put an end to the violent regime of Saddam Hussein, who paid over 34 million dollars to Palestinian terrorists. We're proud that our forces have ended the Iraqi-based operations of terrorists who have killed scores of Americans. And we're grateful that our troops have made it that Saddam Hussein can never provide chemical or biological weapons to terrorists who can use them against American civilians. When the hounds bark, it's usually a sign that they are about to jump to a conclusion, this one with the embarrassing headline "Fox Delays Mention of 1000th Iraq Death": At 4:20 p.m. ET today (September 7, 2004) CNN announced that the US death toll in Iraq had reached 1,000....Not one mention was made of this during the remaining portion of Cavuto (nor had Cavuto mentioned it previously)...Fox News kept this breaking, but bad-for-Bush news from its viewers for at least 40 minutes. Unfortunately, our trusty tivo reveals otherwise, since this is what was being said on Fox at 4:13 pm (seven minutes before CNN got around to it): PAGE HOPKINS: Overall, in the Iraq campaign, the Associated Press reports that the number of US Military deaths has passed 1000. Oops. And then there's the howler of the day, and maybe the week: Dayside w/Linda Vester opened today (September 7, 2004) with a live shot of George Bush preparing to speak at an "Ask the President" campaign event at the Missouri State Fair. Linda Vester waxed poetic about the event and the President... VESTER: What you're looking at is live footage of the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, Missouri. President Bush is holding another of his "Ask the President" events. They're just getting people ready, he hasn't started yet obviously. We're going to keep an eye on what he says. Why, that's positively Shakesperean, worthy of Frost or perhaps Yeats. But the anti-Fox terriers have more: ...and later Fox carried sixteen minutes of the speech live, beginning at 1:13 p.m. ET. Well, they did get the start time correct. However... 1:13 pm coverage of speech begins 1:19 pm coverage of speech concludes 1:19 pm commercial break 1:22 pm report on hurricane frances 1:25 pm discussion of teen promiscuity 1:29 pm commercial break 1:32 pm fox news live update 1:34 pm dayside report on iraq fighting Sixteen minutes has suddenly become only six. What happened to the other ten minutes? Maybe this has something to do with doggie years vs human years; maybe this was sixteen doggie minutes. Yeah, that's the ticket. posted: Tue - September 7, 2004 at 04:54 PM j$p  send | |
