Paw-in-Mouth DiseaseSometimes the Outfoxed gals just outfox themselves. With J$P
Video!
Sometimes the newshounds (another fine product of the Outfoxed mob) are
just too eager to find something poisonous to say about Fox News. When they are
too anxious to post something, they'll fall for anything--and sometimes make
themselves look like silly little doggies.
For example, tail-wagger nancy swoons over a one-on-one interview with her hero, Carl Levin: At 12:14pm, noting that "some critics" say the Iraqi army is not ready, Browne interviewed Sen Carl Levin (D-MI). ...this was by far the best of the bunch. Fine, but these are the same newspoodles who have taken quite a different approach when Fox dared to air one-on-one interviews with others: Fox and Friends" co-hosts interviewed Rep. Jim Saxton, R-New Jersey...For some reason, no Democrat was interviewed. And nancy herself has railed when Fox has dared to present so-called one-sided interviews: Immediately following Garrett's report, at 11:04am (EDT) Brigitte Quinn interviewed Bill Kristol so that he could respond to Dean's remark. Hello? Earth to Brigitte! What's "fair & balanced" about that? You gave Kristol 4 minutes to make whatever remarks he wanted, & gave Dean no time whatsoever to respond to Kristol. But the one-sided Levin interview is greeted with smiles and flowers, and not one word protesting the fact that no Republican appeared alongside him. How quickly one forgets what one wrote just a few weeks earlier. Nancy also proves herself to be a rather poor prognosticator, as she bays at Brit Hume's daring to interview reporter Major Garrett (of Fox, formerly of CNN): Anyone want [sic] guesstimate how long it will be before Hume spends this segment interviewing a progressive (sorry, but I've already got dibs on "when hell freezes over")? How about the very next day? ![]() HUME: So what's going on here? For answers we turn to the veteran Democratic strategist and Fox News Contributor, Bob Beckel... Of course, reading the newshounds one would never know about that, since their write-up neglects to mention Beckel's interview (the "invisible man" technique). Isn't that convenient? There are times when the doggies are laughingly desperate to make a point. Take, for example, this hound version of Six Degrees of Separation: Last night, FOX News Live with Alan Colmes featured a full hour with Candice Michelle, star of the Godaddy Superbowl commercial last weekend....I Googled Ms. Michelle because I was immediately suspicious that all this publicity had some kind of a FOX connection beyond the fact that she appeared on the Superbowl. I didn't find anything direct. But I did find a notice on her website saying that she appears in the lingerie bowl, which was also promoted, via a visit from bra-clad ladies, on Neil Cavuto's show recently. Now that's interesting. Whew! We wouldn't want to try to diagram that chain of connections. While waiting for this revelation to break on the front page of the Times, the newspups overlooked a much more direct link: Domain Name: NEWSHOUNDS.US Registered through: GoDaddy.com (http://www.godaddy.com) Now that's interesting. Not. Even less convincing is their call for Brit Hume to resign because he allegedly got a quote wrong. This, from the website that specializes in rhetorical slice-and-dice! But our favorite example of the newspups stepping into their own mess has to be their righteous outrage at John Gibson, who referred to students as "skulls full of mush". This is too good not to quote at length: Gibson's remarks about students' "skulls full of mush" and having to "parrot back" show a deep disrespect for the students and for higher education. It actually shows contempt for primary and secondary education too, inferring [sic] kids go through 12 years of schooling and arrive in college with no ability to think or judge for themselves, dumb empty vessels accepting everything they hear as indisputable truth. (Maybe in his world that's true...) He exemplifies the fear that right-wingers have of exposing their kids to differing, even extreme, points of view that might interfere with their indoctrination. Actually it's all the fault of that old "right-winger" (actually a longtime liberal activist) John Houseman, in The Paper Chase. He won an Oscar for uttering that contemptible phrase. And there was the classic tv series (again with Houseman), which repeated the phrase in its opening credits. (We mentioned the movie and the tv series over at the hound site. The immediate reaction was to be told "you proved yourself a liar"--because we said the series ran five years, and someone had a source that said four. The intellectual level at that place is staggering.) In any event, here for your viewing enjoyment is the disrespectful, extremist phrase for which Mr Houseman won his Oscar, that will stand as an exemplar of that special variety of looniness that is the newshounds: posted: Sat - February 12, 2005 at 06:46 PM j$p  send | |
