'Shall We Go Through Their Medicine Cabinets?'

J$P Extra! Matt Drudge on Rumsfeld, SNL, Rush Limbaugh, and more.

From The Drudge Report radio edition, Dec 19 2004:

Bernard Kerik was a 72-hour story, but Mort Zuckerman, publisher of the Daily News, who's tied in there with Bloomberg who doesn't like Rudy, he's keeping it alive. Kerik's emails! They've moved on now to Rumsfeld--he is being served on a holiday platter. Rumsfeld used a machine to sign letters to families of deceased soldiers. The question is, have all the other Secretaries of Defense personally signed condolences? But it's Rumsfeld must go, Rumsfeld this, Rumsfeld that. It's stocking filler for a news cycle that's gone slightly dry.

Have you seen John Roberts, who is auditioning for Rather's chair? I don't think he's going to get it. That's not the face Les Moonves wants. Do you think Les will put his girlfriend on? I think he wants to go young and hip and cause a little commotion. Brian Williams is actually doing it over at NBC; since he's been on the air he's been number one every single night, over Jennings and over Rather.

How does Arnold Schwarzenegger have time to do a cover shoot for Vanity Fair? He's got to keep those Q ratings up. Schwarzenegger is suggesting the Republican Party should move "a little bit left". He says it would allow the party to pick up new voters. Maria Shriver must not be giving him any. There's no room left, Arnold; government is maxxed out. California owes 51 billion dollars. And you think you've got problems. They grow nuts and fruits over there and not just on the vines and trees.

I was not too amused being mocked on Saturday Night Live last night, but even worse was what they did to Rush Limbaugh--depicting him passed out after vomiting from drugs, as a punch-line. One senior production source was stunned and outraged. They've had a few problems over there: Farley, Belushi, and who knows how many others are brain-dead? The Tom Shales book had Farley wacked out on drugs, defecating out of windows. But that's applauded, that's popular media, that's Studio 8-H. And to do what they did to Limbaugh, somebody who's working out his problems with real class--but this is Lorne Michaels, this is creative, this is cutting-edge comedy. They say they mock everybody. Did they mock Belushi? I missed it. Did they mock Chris Farley? Oh, but they're not the hypocrites that conservative talk radio is. Isn't it hypocritical for Lorne Michaels to put out this skit? The scourge of this show has been drug abuse and death. I think one of the requirements at SNL was to do a few lines of coke to get on the show. Let's have a little examination please on who is using drugs on the SNL set, currently. Shall we go through their medicine cabinets? Merry Christmas to you, Lorne Michaels.
