Missing Links

The articles they don't want you to see, from the Daily Pennsylvanian, the Dodge City Daily Globe, Nat Hentoff, and more.

We often come across articles and columns about Fox News that are something other than rave reviews for Outfoxed. We dutifully send the links along to bloggers like tvnewser, but for some reason our links usually don't get used. So we offer another selection of Missing Links.

Nat Hentoff of the Village Voice is no right-wing Republican, but he is an acknowledged advocate for individual rights and one of the fairest voices on the liberal side of the spectrum. His latest column, Sweet Land of Liberty: Targeting the Fox News Channel:

...I wonder how many of those clamoring to shut up Fox have actually watched the channel. To be sure, Fox houses an array of such bristling conservative commentators such as Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. But their hosts continually welcome direct, on-air combat with guests of vigorously opposing views. I've been on with O'Reilly's show, and I didn't have to be carried out....

An interesting "inside view" of Fox News comes from Michelle Dubert, who worked this past summer as an intern. She is convinced, Outfoxed Not an Accurate Portrayal:

...I didn't always enjoy my time at FOX News. I would stare at the clock longingly, talk back when perhaps I shouldn't have, bear responsibility for errors I didn't commit, and exit the news corporation building on the brink of hysterics, and with enough anger to supply schoolchildren with a year's worth of nightmares....I'm nobody's apologist. And FOX News could really give a rat's tail as to what I write about it in The Daily Pennsylvanian, anyway. With all that said, I've got some bones to pick with Outfoxed...

This brief item from USA Today has some interesting quotes from Fox personnel:

..."The only time in my career that anyone ever told me I had to say something was when I was with a different organization," says senior White House correspondent Jim Angle, who worked at ABC and National Public Radio before joining Fox in 1996....

And finally, Douglas McKinnon's piece in the Dodge City Daily Globe only mentions Fox News in passing, but is still an interesting analysis of why he thinks, Mainstream Media Seem Out to Get Bush:

...Why did Fox win? Because many Americans, not just Republicans or conservatives, have grown suspect of the content delivered by the networks and the mainstream print media....
