'Do You Think This Will Be Reported on Headline News?'J$P Extra! Matt Drudge on inauguration coverage, Hillary Clinton,
Michael Savage, and more.
From The Drudge Report radio edition, January 23
2005:
Hillary Clinton is the lead, number one Democrat in every poll. But in the Palm Beach Post she says, "America's leaders don't have a vision." She is one of them. She was down in Palm Beach for a very important purpose, helping the little people. Hillary says we need to make sacrifices. Maybe she didn't have the pate at the Trump ceremony; that was her sacrifice. Instead of ten jumbo shrimp she had eight. For the people. She's talking about sacrifices at the Trump wedding? Too much gluttony; too much excess? Someone should just tap her on her shoulder pads and tell her this is not the right venue to talk about sacrifices for the little people. They're putting up posters in Baghdad: If You Vote You Die. When did P Diddy go over there? Oh wait, that was Vote or Die. I wonder if P Diddy will sue for royalties. A funeral for one thousand aborted fetuses in Boulder Colorado--how dare they? Out of mind, out of sight; shouldn't they know it is not proper or polite, it should not be done in public? Abortion should be the unspoken thing in the land. We'll make a big deal about the Lacy Peterson murder and her little fetus, but no, we're not going to talk about the other abortions. Let's see Greta van Susteren jump on that bandwagon. Let's see Fox News jump on the funeral for aborted fetuses. They don't want to go there. There's controversy, and then there's controversy. There wasn't much news to be made on inauguration day, but the cable ratings were news. CNN lost 63% of their audience from the 2001 inauguration. It vanished--poof! Do you think this will be reported on Headline News? You had Christiane Amanpour from Iraq doing a body count--wearing her black, smudging her black eyeliner under her eyes. What an actress! You had Jeff Greenfield talking about how Bush is polarizing. It was a sham; they couldn't even hold back for a day. This was after they came out and said they owned the tsunami story. No wonder Christiane Amanpour was wearing black. Like CNN, MSNBC also suffered major losses--down 68% from its 2001 coverage. What happened there? Was it Ronald Reagan Jr going on and on about how horrible the Republicans are? Of course we all wanted to tune in to see what he would say. Fox, of course, was way up. You can say Democrats would not be watching. They skew to Keith Olbermann, all 230,000 of them, so they wouldn't be watching. I don't get that. Why would Bush-haters have watched MSNBC and CNN in 2001 but not in 2005? Last week Michael Savage wondered why I don't print his ratings. I said why would I print someone who's #13 in New York, #26 in Los Angeles? Why would he want me to? Who in his right mind would want that type of publicity? I sense he is positioning himself, he's trying to find a niche. You see him increasingly attack Limbaugh, increasingly attack Hannity--he calls him the leprechaun. You see him positioning himself and he's shooting at me. I've had people watch Savage do his show--he sits there and reads Drudge the entire broadcast, refreshing the page. So what's he attacking me for? He should be thanking me; he should be sending me stuffed animals. He should be sending me deli, like Diane Sawyer's doing to her potential. January 24, 2005, 9:32:10 AM EST – Like – Reply johnny dollar Drudge gets a pass. Not because he's Drudge, but because his "dissing" of Fox doesn't rely on fabricating quotes and misstating facts. January 24, 2005, 10:30:51 AM EST – Like – Reply Eddy So if the same comments Drudge made were on Newshounds-you'd let it go? A comment like: "They don't want to go there. There's controversy, and then there's controversy." doesn't warrant a rebuttle? I'm getting to know you better J.D. January 24, 2005, 1:19:48 PM EST – Like – Reply Ira First off, because the few Newshounds refugees who post here have little institutional memory before July 15, 2004, they likely don't know that the subject of "aborted fetuses" is a touchy subject for Matt Drudge and Fox. A few years ago Drudge lost his Saturday night show on FNC because he misrepresented a photo of an aborted fetus. Eddy: FNC was alive and kicking before "Outfoxed!" Re: Michael Savage. First a correction: Savage calls O'Reilly, not Hannity a "leprechan." Don't you love that borscht-belt ehtnic humor? Johnny Carson would have been proud! As I wrote in a column over the weekend that referenced Drudge's remarks from last week, it is unlikely that the lazy and myopic Savage even knows that Drudge has blasted him and his phony ratings claims. Keep it up Matt! And finally, Drudge is spot-on about inept MSNBC. Who would ever watch Ron Reagan Jr. anchor? Conservatives think he is a traitor and Liberals don't like his last name. Another fine move b January 24, 2005, 1:49:24 PM EST – Like – Reply Ira Whoops. My last line should read: "Another fine move by Rick kaplan. I don't jump on every subordinate clause of opinion from the hounds or anyone else. It's when the doggies try to support their opinion with false quotes and misinformation that J$P kicks in. January 24, 2005, 2:15:13 PM EST – Like – Reply Eddy Ira I'm confused. So FOX is bad becasue Drudge got kicked off or Drudge is bad because he showed a fetus..? Sorry I have not followed FNC since July 2004....does sound like bad blood. Didn;t know there was any dislike for FOX except from the far left crazies.. And Savage is not good either? How do you tell the good Right wing loonie from the bad? January 24, 2005, 9:40:04 PM EST – Like – Reply Eddy Johnny, come on.....I've seen you parse this type of comment to pieces on Newshounds. And a correction on O'Reilly vs. Hannity-how did you miss that one old boy? See you at the Newshounds. January 24, 2005, 9:42:33 PM EST – Like – Reply johnny dollar How did I miss it? I didn't. I was reporting Drudge's comments. I don't rewrite stuff to suit my agenda like they do over at that other place. January 24, 2005, 10:08:45 PM EST – Like – Reply Eddy But Drudge was wrong! If he's wrong (especially when it comes to FOX) isn't it your duty to correct it? Or do you do that only with the Newhounds? January 24, 2005, 10:34:47 PM EST – Like – Reply johnny dollar I didn't know he was wrong. I don't listen to Michael Savage so I have no idea what Savage calls anybody and don't really care. No, I don't only do it with the newshounds. I do it with anyone who spouts misinformation and/or lies about FNC. Drudge's misinformation was about Michael Savage, and I could care less if someone spouts misinformation about him. January 24, 2005, 11:07:07 PM EST – Like – Reply Tony Savage refers to Hannity as the leprechan, I just heard him say it as I was reading this thread. January 24, 2005, 11:23:07 PM EST – Like – Reply Tony Correction to my post above, Savage refers to both of them as leprechans. January 24, 2005, 11:44:34 PM EST – Like – Reply uB I listened to Savage talk about how Drudge was jealous of him and that was the beef. Made fun that he didnt last on TV, couldnt get a 5 day radio gig, and took jabs that he was just a highschool grad. Said that Drudge was nothing special because all he does it just link to the news articles and doesnt write them . His response that his show doesnt do well in the ratings....I dont know what he is talking about because I have this many shares etc etc, but didnt say where on the totum poll he stood. Savage has been trying to seperate himself from the others a little too hard these days. January 25, 2005, 12:13:14 AM EST – Like – Reply johnny dollar Well, Savage maybe calls both O'Reilly AND Hannity 'leprechaun'. Which is another reason not to leap into correcting things. I like to be sure of my facts when I post. Unlike that other place (coughnewshoundscough). January 25, 2005, 1:03:40 AM EST – Like – Reply Ira Eddy: I provided some background of the possible reason that Drudge made his comment about "aborted fetuses" and Greta and was not endorsing or condemning either his comments or the actions at Fox in firing Matt. I reported, you decide! Tony: Re: "leprechaun." Drudge was in error; Savage now refers to O'Reilly with that ethnic slur, not Hannity. ub: I heard Savage's Monday retort against Drudge and I really don't know if Matt was ever trying for a weekday show. The bottom line is that except in San Francisco and possibly NYC, Savage's ratings are only ordinary and he appears jealous and condescending of nearly everybody else in the media and public life. January 25, 2005, 12:04:24 PM EST – Like – Reply uB Thats is the impression I get also. He seems to be getting worse these days. January 25, 2005, 3:59:27 PM EST – Like – Reply Eddy Ira Red Alert! Maybe it's becasue Savage is a raving lunatic? January 25, 2005, 9:14:33 PM EST – Like – Reply |
