Tuesday Cable News Links and Open Thread

Greta to Obama: stop holding a grudge!

Monday numbers: FNC reigns.  Weekend numbers.

Cody Willard slams newshounds.

Q&A: Glenn Beck (via TVN).

The Abrams matrix.

Red Eye dropped from international feed.

FBN's numbers: dubious data?  GE's agenda.

The HD leader.  Shuster's slander?  Does Shep fit in?

Updated through the day.  Use our valuable bandwidth to post your cable news comments in today's open thread. Standard rules apply.

Shuster is pathetic. The sky is blue.
I cannot wait to see Olbermann's reaction to Letterman's sincere apology made specifically to Willow, Bristol, Governor and Mr. Palin. It was Olbermann's conclusion only last week that Letterman had suffciently apologized and Sarah Palin was now the bad apple.
Letterman cited Mark Shields as the one who opened his eyes. I actually caught Mark Shields comments on Friday's NEWSHOUR along with David Brooks'. Brooks (the "conservative" in the regular segment) was actually dismissive of Palin's concerns while Shields, point-blank, said Letterman was wrong and the children, no matter what their ages, should be off limits for such humor. The switch in which ideologue (although Brooks is not really that much of one, he likes moderation), defended whom was striking. Judy Woodruff of CNN fame was the substitute moderator and her bias showed in saying something along the lines that Sarah Palin is always a "lightning rod."
Olbermann remains in his "hate Palin camp." We'll see tonight if he doubles down, ignores the whole thing, or changes his tune.

Does Shep fit in?
Media Matters tries to stir the pot. It must really irritate them when Fox News is actually "Fair and Balanced".

Shuster labels Sen. Joe Lieberman a "hypocrite", saying that Lieberman has been "praising Obama" while not supporting all of his "crucial" initiatives (not true)...
on the other hand...
...many in the media have been praising Shep Smith for showing all "the right stuff" by supposedly criticizing his rightwing overlords...
All just another day in the MSM for conservatives...

From The Cable Game, the GE Agenda article:
Imagine the leftist howls if Halliburton bought NBC and then sought to generate more profits by running a series of "Drill, Baby, Drill" news features.
Not gonna happen of course, but just think of the suffering that Mr. Czechoslovakia would have to endure!

I read this little gem at NEWSHOUNDS:
"It’s perfectly clear to me that Panetta was not accusing Cheney of wanting the country to be attacked. Panetta was using a bit of hyperbole to make his point about the partisan lengths to which Cheney was going."
Then I am over at RealClearPolitics and see a clip from MORNING JOE with Priscilla's fellow traveler, Ed Schultz:
Ed Schultz characterizes Panetta as believing Cheney wanted America to be attacked by terrorists. No mincing words here, no "hyperbole." He even goes further to say Cheney is one of the most ruthless politicians in the country....Schultz then claims he gets "a lot of support," from his audience for that opinion.
I suppose Priscilla would say Ed was wrong then? Or is she too busy putting down FNC staff to notice MSNBC people take the same message from a public statement made by a member of the Obama administration?

"I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration…That's a pretty big megaphone. You'd be hard pressed if you watched the entire day to find a positive story about me on that front."
Obama, today with CNBC
Ah, the leader of the free world whining about perceived bias against him on FNC....What a world, what a world!
I would hope Obama would look at the studies of the numbers of pos/neutral/neg stories about his administration compared to Bush and Clinton. He should not be whining.
"President Barack Obama has enjoyed substantially more positive media coverage than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush during their first months in the White House."
Obama should also take issue with Robert Samuelson's conclusions.....

I just saw the clip of this on Bret Baier's show. Crazy!
Exactly how much time does he actually spend watching FNC to make that statement? Probably none, so is this a case where he's just saying what his handlers are telling him?

Those ratings are fantastic for FNC. In all shows, from Beck to the BOR rerun, each show has more total viewers than MSNBC, CNN, HLN combined (one small exception, Shep misses it by a paltry 60,000 viewers).
Beck and Hannity exceed the other three networks combined by almost 300,000 viewers each. BOR exceeds them by over 1/2 million viewers.
Congrats to FNC for the excellence in programming.

What everyone seems to be over looking is this statement and it's meaning.
"I've got one television station that is entirely devoted to attacking my administration…That's a pretty big megaphone. You'd be hard pressed if you watched the entire day to find a positive story about me on that front."
This FOOL believe's he own's ALL but ONE station now. Hidden meaning is that FOX is the redhead step-child and will be dealt with accordingly. Hope all you HOPE and CHANGER'S are proud of your Chicago Community Organizer Thug. The fun begin's in '10 and your world starts collasping around you HOPE and CHANGER'S.

You have only to read the FNC ratings news and Stossel's piece on Beck, to understand why its in the Obama Administration's interest to marginalize a network that is not driven by an ethos of young politically correct peers and old libs bent on reclaiming their sixties "New Left" dreams.

Yeah, he is, but he's an Old Jabberwocky with some relevant experience under his belt and the brain power to constitute an interesting challenge.

I like Shep Smith and Glenn Beck. My two favorite people at FNC. Fox is definitely best in HD. Your World should be HD soon because they are now in Studio E. I don't know why they aren't in HD. Red Eye can be HD too but I don't think that matters. The weekend shows probably aren't as big of a priority. CNN needs more HD definitely. Hopefully MSNBC will have more HD than CNN.
