Concerning the Gawker article.Who are these Jossip people?Do they have a line to Fox? Are they on the same page ideologically?I never heard of them before I began reading posts here.

I recorded Saturday's "Beltway Boys" and was finally able to watch it late last night. I think this may have been the first time I had seen it in several weeks, and was I surprised. I had more-or-less stopped paying much attention to Barnes. If he hadn't been on the White House payroll for the last 5-6 years, he should have been. But, with the exception of an expected rerun of his vigorous support of Bush's Occupation policy, Barnes seemed to have, on one hand, a fairly balanced view of Bush and the Administration and, on the other hand, a realization that the band was striking up "Good Night Ladies," after skipping most of the repertoire of old elephant watering hole favorties. A good show, once again.

Interesting poll.

My Congressman during the 80's,Robert Walker (of C-Span fame),would send out questionaires asking questions like, "Do you favor an increase in defence spending,or would you prefer that the US be at the mercy of every tin-cup dictator who wants to push us around?"

Well, the Jossip post tries to answer my above questions of links to Fox.I'll give them the benifit of the doubt. They seem like true dyed in the wool gossip mongers to me.

Interesting that they mirrored Carr's piece on the tactics of Fox PR people.

"Alas, Olbermann now seems like just another guy who throws lots of punches for a living but can't suffer a jab in return"

There was a great sketch with William Shatner on the old show "Fridays" from 1980 or 81. He played a guy who acted like he was this big, tough guy, adventurer, etc., but whenever he would suffer some very minor injury, such as having his foot stepped on, a small paper cut, he would scream and whine in hysteria. I don't describe it with justice, but for those of you who may remember it, Olbermann reminds me of that character.

I saw Ms. Camerota doing (part of) the media show following the Beltway Boys. I actually think she did an admirable job, and I was pleasantly surprised. My only other experience with her has been F&F, and I thought she always came across as flirty, silly and superficial. Maybe, she was just playing down to Doocy.

I've decided to take my lumps and return to commenting here. If a troll (not Mark or nvh) shows up, I'll either slink of the thread until the heat dies down or ignore and go about regular commenting as if they didn't say anything.
Alisyn also has video of Jay Thomas carrying ("manhandling") her on her blog:
http://greenroom.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/07/07/i-get-carried-away-by-jay/
The video is direct from FNC (no ticker or logo bug) and out of sync with the audio. Also included below the clip is the segment with Jay on "the curvy couch."
Great profile of Shibani Joshi; didn't know she was from Oklahoma City or only six years older than me.
I hope Cody Willard is indeed able to fully recover from Lyme Disease and Bell's Palsy. Every time I hear "Bell's Palsy," I think of Ralph Kiner and what it's done to him.

Even in a nation that imprisons so many people, isn't that just about the most disgusting thing on television? I suppose the production costs must be very low and the appeal broad enough to offset the costs. We do have an awful lot of prison guards in America, too. MSNBC has to be ashamed of this.

So Fox News is now developing a pilot for a new show starring Mike Huckabee, former GOP candidate? Another Republican talk show on Fox? Let's see, how many Republican talk shows does Fox currently have, or have they already have?

GOP candidate Oliver North
GOP Congressman John Kasich
GOP shill Sean Hannity
GOP shill Larry Elder
GOP roundtable for the WSJ

Now Huckabee?

At least Fox isn't making any more bones about the fact that they're in the tank for the Republican Party.

Perhaps, you confuse hatred with balance when it comes to Ms. Amanpour. She goes to great lengths to refrain from cross-cultural judgments. Without question, Israel is our closest ally in the Middle East, as it should be. That doesn't mean Israel is error-free. The Israelis openly discuss their errors. The US is the world's greatest democracy, somewhat diminished in the last 7 years, to be sure, but still the greatest. We make errors as well. Countless errors. We should be pleased that there are fine journalists of great integrity, like Ms. Amanpour, who help us see our errors. They help us improve ourselves.

You haven't offered any proof Amanpour hates Israel, and you can't. You just heard Wiener say that, and you are repeating it, without critical analysis, without even thought. What he says means nothing absent some real back-up. In any event, "hate" would always indicate opinion and not fact. If you can back up what you're saying, without your Wiener, then well and good. I am sure we'd all consider. Otherwise, fix your Bosco and go to bed.

Amanpour has in the past displayed a keen hostility to the State of Israel, but in this six hour special her distortions and lies are in full bloom—and quite frankly they verge on Jew-hatred.

At one point Amanpour flatly states that Orthodox Jewish women are subservient to their husbands."

In his deleted message which unfortunately for him had to include a personal attack, Eric made the preposterous claim that Larry Elder's show was not a special but a pilot and he would be on for many weeks to come. This on the same day that TV Newser reported it was a one-shot deal, as was clear to everyone else on the planet.

Maybe he'll do a list of all the people who used to do shows on MSNBC too: Ingraham, Michael Savage, Alan Keyes, John Gibson, Ollie North (the only time North ever had a cable news talk show was on MSNBC), etc. What a joke, as "Eric" would say.

Maybe I would, Johnny, except this is a discussion ABOUT FOX NEWS. The fact that you try to change the subject to MSNBC shows you have no leg to stand on, and you don't really believe Fox is balanced. If you did, you wouldn't say anything about MSNBC. No one cares about MSNBC. This isn't about MSNBC. This is about Fox News. And MSNBC doesn't factor into the equation.

Get over it. You can't refute anything I've said, you just run and hide and go back to moaning about MSNBC.

Johnny or other Fox In the Know Its: Any idea how FNC is going to cover the conventions? All I have seen is a chart of the rough number of hours devoted to them. Two (2) particular points of interest for me:

Senator Obama's speech at the stadium. I can't see the regular configuration working all that well in a large, crowded, noisy outdoor venue. The very thought of Hume even going outside is somewhat amusing to me. What would be the ideal team for this? The ideal "correography"?

Any extraneous and interesting actions by the Ron Paul people. The RNC and the party regulars are doing their best to dismiss the possibility, and the entire convention may be as dull and mundane as promised. But, taken together, these people are one enormous Stuckey's Pecan Log. If something begins to happen, does FNC go live to it or does it continue with the remarks of the State Senator from the 3rd District of Lower Proctology's remarks about the evils of illegal immigrants working in salt water taffey plants? In other words, given what appears to me to a stoginess when it comes to election coverage on FNC, just how spontaneous does it become? Is this a Garret job? Cameron? Van Sustern? Others?

the last time around, if I recall correctly, they had O'Reilly live at the convention center for his 8:00 pm show, then went to H&C also at the hall. These would both be similar to what they do otherwise but with cutaways for important convention business, interviews with political stars there, etc.

Because all the big stuff is crammed into the 10pm hour (as that's when the broadcast networks come on), that's when Hume et al appeared to cover the rest of the session. When they ended, Greta came on with a sort of after hours show that ran for two or three hours. She actually anchored more convention coverage than anyone else at Fox last time around.

I don't think anyone is going to pay much attention either to the Senator from Proctology or the Ron Pauliacs counter-convention, though the latter will be reported on to some extent. That's just my guess.

I'd bet they put Shepard Smith at the stadium.

Shep would be a good choice. He exudes youth (below his years) and excitement. That sounds like it is going to be a barn-burner. I am going to be there, so I'll give special, periodic reports, probably as terribly one-sided as I accuse FNC of being at times.

One other thought on coverage. Michelle Obama is going to be getting a great deal of attention, in part because she is controversial and in part because she is charismatic. This strikes me as a challenge and an opportunity. I hope the networks don't pool this off on a female reporter simply because she is a woman. I would love to see Major Garrett interviewing Ms. Obama.

I don't think that the same challenge or the same opportunity is created with Cindy McCain despite some rather interesting past dealings and events. She just doesn't seem to engender the same passion. She would be a much more difficult interview.
