Our New Place

Welcome to the new home of johnny dollar's place. If you have bookmarked our old site please update your bookmark (or favorites listing) to http://johnnydollar.us to return here. The previous site remains as an archive (2004-2007) for older posts, so links to published articles will not change. But if you subscribed to our RSS feed you will have to resubscribe using the RSS button on this site. The search function in our right hand column encompasses all posts in both locations.

Commenting Rules

We welcome all points of view at J$P, but unlike some sites we don't permit people to greet those who disagree with personal attacks, name-calling, or profanity. We assume you don't want to have your comments edited or deleted, or get yourself banned. Banning is a last resort and almost always temporary; most people who cross the line spend a day or two on Exile Island, and return with a new respect for the following simple guidelines:

No profanity.
We are a family-friendly resource, and there is no reason to resort to tasteless vulgarities or foul language, regardless of how badly your arguments have been shredded.

No personal attacks.
If you want to call other commenters names, you know where you will be welcomed. But here, please conduct all discussions with at least a modicum of intelligence and respectability. Personal attacks on other comment posters will not be tolerated. This goes double for personal attacks on us.

No off-topic ramblings.
If you think a comments thread is meant to be a free-for-all smorgasbord for anything that comes into your head, you are in the wrong place. Try to maintain a least a tenuous connection to the subject matter at hand.

No lengthy cut and paste.
A line or two might be OK, but if you want to draw attention to somebody else's opinion, provide a link. (That is "a" link; see "abuse" below.) Be aware that if it's a link to a site that prohibits or deletes links to our articles, it may be removed. What's fair is fair. Also, do not repost links in the comments that we have already posted in the blog itself.

No abuse.
Our daily links/open thread posts are designed for civil comments on cable news topics. If you attempt to dominate or hijack a discussion by flooding the thread you will be throttled back, so please don't be a thread hog. Also, remember that the comments do not constitute your personal daily links blog. No one will ever be censured or deleted for expressing an unpopular point of view. But using the comments simply as a device to plug your favorite hobby horses with one topic or link after another does not constitute discussion. If you do not limit yourself, we will do it for you. Other forms of abuse include, but are not limited to: posting the same message over and over, racial slurs, threats of violence. One more word of advice: the use of multiple proxies or other anonymizers brings with it a presumption of malicious intent. Messages posted in this fashion may be removed for that reason alone.

Moderator's Privilege.
We don't like hit-and-run attacks, or outright lies. So we ask that commenters not argue "facts" that aren't true. If we spot such arguments here or elsewhere, we may invoke "Moderator's Privilege": the attacker is challenged to document his claims. If the commenter cannot back up his statements or his charges have been shown to be false, he must take them back. While Moderator's Privilege is pending, further comments from the attacker may be held in the moderation queue until the attacker resolves the issues at hand. Moderator's Privilege is not a ban. Once the challenged issues have been resolved, the commenter's posting privileges resume. If the attacker will not respond to the Moderator's Privilege challenge, or refuses to retract statements that he cannot back up, posting privileges will not resume.

No juvenilia. We've had our fill of the insipid FNC insult phrases that pervade the cybersphere, and they will not be permitted here. These include, but are not limited to, such knee-slappers as "Faux News", "O'Lielly", "Fixed Noise", "David Ass-Man", "Billo" and the like, as well as disguised versions such as "F!x;d N0;s;" etc.

Dollar, you gotta get the links to the "Comments" section on the home page. Gotta be able to see what the folks are saying without hunting it down.

I'm not sure how to do that just yet. This new software makes things much easier on my end, but some things are more difficult. It's always a trade-off. I'll look into that for sure and see if I can do that in the New Year.

Okay, Dollar... I understand.
If there's anything I can do to help out with the site... little photopshop work or something, lemme know. Happy to help.

Since I no longer write at News Hounds because they censor, here I am reading where sometimes I think some people are nuts, but at least they don't censor. LOL
I looked for a topic about state propositions on the ballot, but didn't see anything. I need help. I live in California and I am very confused about the Indian gambling propositions. Does anyone else out there live in California who knows more about these propositions?
