Fox Haters Week in Review

Quote cropping? Time travel? All that and more in the latest edition of Fox Haters Week in Review.

Slice and Dice
After J$P was first to draw attention to Greta van Susteren's defense of her husband, the story spread quickly, and the Fox-hating zealots were no exception. Think Progress posted about Greta's response, using this quote:

I am getting lots of inquires about my husband John Coale — no, he is not a paid adviser to Governor Palin and never has been. And no, he does not want a job with her or with the other women he has helped. Yes, he has given Governor Palin advice and helped her. He met her through me when I interviewed her. I did not meet her through him. I have gotten interviews with her not through him but through our staff on OTR. It is that simple. … Some people get so bent out of shape by what they imagine. Go figure.
The comments that followed were predictable:
  • Fox continues to be the mouthpiece for the Republican party. They don’t even try to be neutral. What a bunch of baffoons!
  • Why can’t fox just come out and say, Caution!: “We are the republican network..."
  • Greta Van Cisterne is nothing but a failed lawyer who became a failed reporter who now is a failing screeching head for the cancervative echo chamber.
Was this the reaction Think Propaganda wanted? Is there any other reason why they so carefully cropped Greta's words? What was in the space where TP inserted the three dots?
Yes, it has some people all obsessed and spreading rumors — it is no doubt the enemies of the people who got so upset when my husband has helped Speaker Pelosi and Secretary Clinton and spread the opposite rumors.
What else did TP leave out?
My husband is like me….he agrees with each of the women in both parties some of the time but not all of the time. Likewise at my home and I suspect your home too, we agree with each other some of the time but not all of the time.… if you pay attention (really pay attention) to what I have said about the women in BOTH parties (Clinton, Palin etc.) it is this: give them a fair shake. Criticize their polices like you would the men as that is fair…but skip the gratuitous insults…
So the meat of Greta's defense, and the fact that her husband also supported Pelosi and Clinton, were Too Much Information for the TP editors. And they got exactly the reaction they were after.

The Loony Bin
There's always a feast of hating at oreilly-sucks.com. With only two days of Mr Bill to attack there's less to pick from, but their smearing of Scott Rasmussen should do nicely:
Rasmussen is a Republican pollster.
From the Rasmussen website:
Douglas E. Schoen, a pollster for President William J. Clinton, says "Rasmussen Reports is one of America's most insightful and analytical sources of data and analysis on U.S. public opinion. They are fearlessly independent, always ahead of the curve, and offer unique insights unavailable anywhere else."...Scott Rasmussen, president of Rasmussen Reports, has been an independent pollster for more than a decade. Like the company he started, Scott maintains his independence and has never been a campaign pollster or consultant for candidates seeking office.
But wait, the sucksters aren't through yet:
these bogus Rasmussen index rating polls O'Reilly is using.
What makes them 'bogus'? The sucksters don't explain, probably because of this:
I analyze poll estimates from these 23 polling organizations. Four of these polls appear to have overestimated McCain support (indicated with a * below), while most polls (17) overestimated Obama strength. Pre-election projections for two organizations’ final polls—Rasmussen and Pew—were perfectly in agreement with the actual election result.
That's right. The 'bogus' Rasmussen poll was the most accurate poll of them all!

Crank Up the Time Machine
It's a venerable truism: humor is subjective. That goes double for satire, which is also subject to hypocritical reactions from those with ulterior motives. When Red Eye poked fun at the Canadian military planning to take a one-year vacation, the 'outrage' was predictable. (People who've never seen the show routinely get their dander up when they are presented with a clip they're supposed to get mad at.) But a lot of people don't believe in a panoply of 'sacred cows' that should be off-limits to parodists, so that meant the outrage factor had to be artificially heightened. One way was to pretend that the discussion was an attack on Canada's fighting men and women, rather than simply lampooning the Canadian government. Then on Friday the 20th, four Canadian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan. What an opportunity to callously use these heroes' deaths to smear Fox News! The first site we found to do this was the infamous MyDD (best known for mounting a campaign of lies against FNC regarding debates). Of the Red Eye segment they stated:
This utter and complete failure came on the heels of a report that 4 Canadian soldiers died today in Afghanistan.
The new twist quickly spread:
On a day when we lost 4 (more) soldiers, here’s [deleted] “News” Channel, laughing at our military.
And naturally that was echoed at the dog pound and then found its way to youtube:
  • Four Canadian soldiers died on the day this episode was aired.
But in their eagerness to manufacture outrage, they didn't tell the truth. How could the Red Eye segment have come "on the heels" of the March 20th incident, how could it have taken place "on a day when we lost 4 (more) soldiers", when it actually aired three days earlier, on March 17th?

Attack the Messenger [Warning: Language!]
This week the attacks on J$P continued, gleefully enabled by Ellen Brodsky, Queen Bee of the newshounds. Here are a few comments about this site and its readers, culled from the special, sticky, permanent thread she created to smear this site. We know what follows is repellent, but there will be a payoff at the end:
  • Assley is a little bitch
  • As for Grammie and Assley, they are what we say they are. A hag and a fag.
  • And BTW, I'm the one who called Cecelia a "comfort girl" as she does seem to whore herself out (metaphorically speaking) to her main man. And here's the thing, Cece, if you don't like it - too, fucking, bad. Boo, fucking, hoo. If the girdle (you're an older gal, right?) fits, wear it!
  • I can say what I want, when I want and anytime I want. Second, I say how I feel, Cecelia, talks to people like they are children therefore I call her Hagzilla jr. or Cuntcecelia, Grammie is an old clueless geezer, so I call her Hagzilla. Vstol is a troll so I call him pystroll, and you pretend to be a man act like a woman and argue like a 5th grader and that Is why I call you a little faggot. You can be one way here and the other way at home, that is what make the internet great I will never have to see you, and I thank goodness for that.
  • Well Koldys after that, you sit at your cumputer ( and yes I said cumputer, since you probably have cum all over it).
  • SO Assley rip and tear do the little dance, but Assley we won and you lost and in the end that is all that matters. If I want to call you or any of you over there names, so be it. You pretty much do it daily to Haggis, I just do it in a much more vocal way and in your face way ( you know in your face, where Fox Fan puts his penis every night) in your face. Oops did I go vulagar again. Sorry.
Yeah, so are we, for subjecting our readers to that. But as we said, there is a payoff. From that very same thread, this comment about the high intellectual level of discussion going on:
  • vistol, like wantstosuckolbermann, hypocrite houndy, and other j$ sheep, are addicted to NHs. And who could blame them? The conversations and reports are 100 times more intelligent then what they're used to at j$'s.

Paging Gloria Allred
With the crashing failure by the newshounds to sabotage Bill O'Reilly's presentation at the Alexa Foundation, what better time could there be to enjoy a moment of gender sensitivity from the anti-Fox terriers themselves? Here are a couple of delightfully empathetic comments about Megyn Kelly, a successful professional who had the effrontery to contradict a male counterpart: a no-no in the world of sexism and objectification. As always, both of these were pre-approved for publication by the newsmutt moderators:
  • I've been thinking lately that a cool SNL-type skit would be Barbara Bush leading all-famale team known as Conservatives United (in) Neutralizing Terrorist Sympathizers. And yeah, Megyn should definitely be in it. I'm sorry, did I earlier say Conservatives United (in) Neutralizing Terrorist Sympathizers? ... I meant Certifiably Unhinged Nasty Twats and Sycophants -- CUNTS. Sorry for any confusion that may have ensued as a result.
  • Kelly, go back to what you know best. Blowing married men. Slut.

Call me Chris Matthews!!!! My leg is tingling, I actually made FHNiR!!!
I thank my parents, I thank my wife, I thank my children, I thank J$, I thank Cecelia, I thank Cee, I thank Grammie, I thank VSTOL, I thank FF, I thank OS, and I see the light flashing and the band about to play, so I have to cut this short and miss thanking some of my fellow Dollies, and lastly I thank the L'il Feller. Excellent job there Mr. $!

Claudo is very confused about the state of affairs here. He contradicts himself just words apart:
"Dollar's blog is, like the Olbermann Watch obsession, very testosterone (or is a lack of) driven."
So, uh, Claudo...which is it?
Then we have multiple posts by Peggy that implicate Grammie in hardcore porn. Stay classy, Peg!

Long live these champions of gays, minorities, and women, who call those who differ with them "fags", "house negros", and the c-word.
Without their help, exhibiting them for the doctrinaire angry control freaks that they truly are, would not quite be a total piece of cake...

Van Susteren's husband does work for Palin pac...You can argue the rights and wrongs of his past associations with Pelosi and Clinton...but the question at hand now is...not them...but the VERY favourable coverage give by Van Susteren about Palin....I'm 95% certain this coverage is down to her husbands position over at Palin pac. I'd like to hear the conversation over the dinner table if Van Susteren was doing F&B coverage of Palin....Red faces and arguments I'd imagine.

The Van Susteren controversy isn't about an edited quote....It's about her coverage of Palin and her husbands association with Palin pac....Your simply trying to spin the conversation away from the real reason and reposition it...so it appears to be all about the quote.

Maybe that's what you want to talk about Haggis, but this is Fox Haters Week in Review. It's designed to focus on the tricks that Fox Haters use to smear Fox. So it's all about the quote cropping of Think Progress. (It was supposed to be about Media Matters too, but I forgot to include that part into the article! It's ok since it's something that can wait.)
You want to talk about Greta's coverage of Palin, but don't want to talk about her coverage of Nancy Pelosi, or Hillary Clinton, or John Kerry, or any of the other people her husband has raised money for and advised. Just like TP, your outrage! over a member of her family helping a politician only surfaces when that person--for the first time ever that I know of--turns out to be a Republican. You cloak it in ephemera like "95% favorable coverage", without a word about Greta's coverage of Pelosi, Clinton, Kerry, or any other (D) politician. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that you don't know what her coverage of those people was like, or exactly how it differed from her coverage of Palin. She's probably interviewed Hillary Clinton a half dozen times. Not a peep.
If you want to discuss TP's quote cropping have at it. If you want to pretend like you know what you're talking about in discussing Greta's political coverage over the past eight years, from all I can tell, you don't (know what you're talking about).

There are serious problems with the "Fox Haters Week in Review" editions:
1. The unprecedented falsehoods, distortions, misreprersentations, outright lies, cherry-picking, out of context, agenda driven editing (the latest outrage du jour from the bright blueblog scrotum cabal), space-time incontinuum, vulgar ad hominem attacks and childish taunts emanating from Fox Haters, Inc. have become so common place, it would require a five to six hundred page tome just to chronicle one month's worth of only the most egregious examples.
2. After highlighting your very own dedicated Newshound's Smear J$ thread, it is likely it will disappear as it clearly exposess the vicious, vile, venomous, vapid and vengeful minds that occupy that particular wing of the kennel.
3. Nobody likes a critic, or their criticism, especially an effective, fact based, truthful, full metal attribution criticism that takes dead aim at its target and scores a bulls-eye. Consequently, you will not be appreciated by your detractors. C'est la vie.

After reading some of the vile posts allowed on the newshounds site, I visualize a different group of animals sitting at their terminals and posting such filth and garbage. They are pigs and the folks that allow these foul remarks to get posted are swine in the true sense of the word.
I am reminded of George Bernard Shaws's warning " I learned a long time ago never to wrestle with a pig, you get dirty and besides, the pig loves it.
The postings made there reflect what kind of people they are and I would recommend that folks here view them as such.

Yep, they sure are. Do you remember what precipitated the thread devoted entirely to pay homage to J$?
Johnny included in his weekly roundup a section that talked about the 10 threads in 11 days that were devoted to him. That was a bit arkward when screaming that Johnny is obsessed with them so they decided that would never happen again and gave Johnny his very own spot in NH history with his very own special (I think they call it 'sticky') thread.
That decision seems to have another set of arkward unintended consequences. By no means a minor one b/c they have those great thinkers and writers johnt and Claudo almost filling up a whole page shouting to each other and the heavens some very decidedly raw, sometimes pornographic, clap trap.
Now where do they go and what do they do? When you have a parlay of Pegleg, Patsy, Fetid Patrick, Claudo, johnt and sometimes visitor 55 and various and sundry others firmly ensconced in your midst you are in deep doo doo. There is no way to escape them. It's tough when ou're carrying your own sewer around with you.

Where is all that high mindedness, about restricting comments to the cable news?
Perhaps someone would be so kind as to point me in the right direction, is there a clip I can view that would provide further understanding of your post up until now?
I also thought this article from today's Toronto Sun might, give you a deeper understanding of Canada and all that 'false indignation', but then again maybe not.
It was also encouraging to read at the CBC, that 3000 NATO Troops lined the tarmac to say good-bye to their Canadian colleagues but I won't paste that link, I realize that you frown on such things.

Therefore, your 12:40 am comment on this thread, which by the way, is not labeled an Open Thread, is very much out of place.
The fact that you're a new visitor, coupled with the generous amount of leeway allowed by our host, grants you courtesy concommitant to all those who comment here.
If your objective is to criticize, I suggest you spend a little more time getting the lay of the land and not be so quick to go off half-cocked.
Helpful Tip#1: Putting your observations of J$P that bemuse you or observations you perceive to be hypocritical, disengenuous or out of place, in the form of a sincere question as opposed to a sarcastic dig based upon a prejudicial attitude developed before you ever came through the door, set down and ordered a cup of tea, would be helpful.
Hang in there, you might discover somethings that will surprise you.
As I previously said, Welcome.
