'He's Really the John Edwards of the Right'

J$P Video! Andrew Levy on the dustup between Rush and Mike Huckabee:

From The Live Desk, December 26 2007

The Christian right (and other fed up conservatives) are supporting Mike Huckabee, but the right’s pundits are not flocking to support him, and many of them are actually trying to derail him. Case in point:

Something is very very very very wrong with this picture. Bottom line: The best candidate for the Republican nomination is Huckabee.

"The best candidate for the Republican nomination is Huckabee. " ?

Really?

Then I'm in the wrong party.

Which party supports smaller Government and lower taxes?

Which party is willing to consider justice instead of "listening to their hearts and looking for forgiveness" for felons?

Which party is willing to have an actual discussion of merits and records rather than simply insulting their detractors as "Christian Bashers" regardless of the validity of the problems raised?

Which party doesn't have a "ten year hope" and actually has a plan for policies instead of vague goals with no plan?

Which party is serious about foreign defense, instead of "wondering why they hate us"?

Oh, and which party doesn't have a strong history of corruption (like taking bribes for pardons for multiple DUI offenders).

Because I'd like that party. Looking at Huckabee's record as Governor, he isn't for any of the above...

Could you define "best" in a way that actually does something good? Or is it just religious bigotry that makes him "best"?

Are the Republicans just the party of "no abortion" and everything else is window dressing and optional? Because I don't see anything else that Huckabee has any sort of Conservative record on.

Exit question: If a black woman were Christian, should she support Hillary, Obama, or Huckabee? Seeing as all three are focusing on identity politics instead of any actual policy discussions; how would this woman choose? Is it simply whichever identity she feels most strongly, or is there some equation to identity politics that would obviously favor one candidate?

If family values and moral Christian backbone are the foundation that will lead this nation out of darkness, why are those who preached it for decades suddenly turning away from the man who embodies these very qualities and puts them into action. The hypocrisy is pretty astounding, from my point of view.

The truth is it’s mostly the Republican elites that are attacking Huck. They are ruining the GOP mainstream chance of getting a President who will deal with their needs and not only Wall Streets and the Insiders.

Conservative Choice?

Higher taxes, more spending, more intrusive Government taking choices away from people = Conservative Choice?

Well, call me a "republican Elite" if you like, I've been called worse while questioning Huckabee's record. Oddly I've never found a Huckabee supporter who will ever actually talk about his record rather than his religion.

How does a history of raising taxes more then Bill Clinton, raising spending more (percent or dollar) than Bill Clinton, and pardoning or commuting more sentences than Bill Clinton = Conservative?

Oh yeah, Christianity. the shield to cover all liberal actions and call yourself a Conservative. If only Clinton had talked more about his religion, he could have been a Republican too I guess.

When a man who commits his third DUI, is sentenced to 7 years, and is pardoned 6 months into his sentence but only after his wife donates 10,000 dollars to the Arkansas Republican party; is that Moral values, or family values?

Or is it Christian bashing and elitism to ask a question like that?

I have been a born agian evangelical tongue talking christian for no less than 20 years.
I do not believe pointing out the absolute idiocy of the Huckster is Christian bashing. It's bashing the worst candidate which is exactly what needs to happen to him.
with every lie and snake oil smoothe phrase I get more disgusted by him.
I am ashamed to have Huck "representing" me as a Christian. I wish he would shut his big fat mouth.

That is exactly why the left loves Huckabee. They get a two-fer with him. They get to trounce the Republican party in the general election and they get to paint Christians as morally corrupt hypocrites.

Infidel Granny said she was a Christian and spoke in tongues. REALLY?? Which language? And did you have an interpreter to interpret the language so people around you could understand the message? As far as I know that is a must for anyone speaking in the gift of tongues. Read your Bible.

Anyhow, I'm no liberal. You've heard of the far right? Well, I'm far right of that!! Funny, now the common people, in the person of Huckabee, are threatening to take over, and the secular right doesn't like it a bit.

Below are links to statements and research from the campaign that state the real truth on attacks being made on Governor Huckabee's record.
