members of the dog pound hate the show which means Laura has got a hit in the making. Loved this legal immigration segment that you are replaying.

I wish I was home to watch Laura's new program, I'm always snarled in traffic while it's on. I'll have to DVR it sometime.

Great piece on Stewart last night showing Doocy and Malkin with a Cuomo and Obama speech segment and Doocy asking Malkin if it was plagiarized. Stewart gave on of his patented stunned looks, then put up text of both segments, then removed all but the common words (of, to, &c). Link must not be posted yet, but great, great comedy.

I'm not a tremendous fan of Laura, F/F, but I do think she is able to present her side generally rationally and not disrespectfully. She is passionate, but she is not a firebrand. She also has an ability, shared by only a handful of people, to be able to transition well from radio to television and back again. Limbaugh never managed television well, and I find O'Reilly flat on radio. Oddly, Hannity has the skills to do both, although I find him intolerable on either. Colmes doesn't do either particularly well, although radio is a better venue for him. I don't know what Laura's prospects are at FNC, long term, but I think she is a generally solid addition.

In regards to the behavior of the Talk Radio Network's lockout of Laura Ingraham, I find it to be heavy handed and just plain bizarre. Do the owners really think they can bully her into a new contract or are they just plain bitter? Either way, it says a lot about how they operate.

From Obliowatch:

Now I'm assuming that KO reported last night that Paula Abeles, who gained some noteriety by trying to keep Sally Hemmings decendents from a Jefferson family gathering,is a former Clinton supporter who is now supporting Sen Mccain. The writer then goes on to imply that KO said "McCain supporters are racist".Did KO say that "Mccain supporters are racist" this ??I'd love to see the transcript.

The writer also comments that "they are rape jokists"(is that even a word?).This alludes to fundraising support from Clayton Williams (Interesting side note,Scott McClellan worked on his campaign),a Texas politico who ran against Ann Richards.I assume that KO reported this story.Did he say that "they(McCain supporters) are rape jokists".I'd love to see the transcript.

Makes you wonder about someone who would infer from a pair of factual news reports that he or she (or Mccain supporters generally) is being called a "sexist racist".

NVH....go to the COUNTDOWN site and watch the video of Olbermann's interview with Fineman...the propaganda is essentially that the association with Williams is a nonstarter with all women because of the rape joke and that Ann Richards was some sainted heroine (BTW, I doubt most normal people could identify the former Texas Govenor in a photo). This is simply a partisan nerd story but Olbermann tries to puff it up to represent something it is not.

I think the OW summary of both segments hits the mark to the value the subjects have on the election. Racism and sexism are powerful fear memes for the democrats as is class warfare and we will see these fear issues used by the left to attack McCain.

Olbermann is just doing his job and OW is documenting it well!

I guess I'm not normal.Ann Richards appeared on "King of the Hill" and I knew her instantly.

Although I agree with you that KO cherry-picks his stories to make a particular point, and the stories were minor and deserved no more than a pasing mention,if that,I object to the generalization on the part of the Obliowatch writer that KO was calling McCain supporters racist and "rape jokists".Arguments fall particularly flat when the writer tries to use hyperbola in this way to claim offence.

... and she was constantly on Larry King Live .... I can't imagine a news program that didn't carry a picture or a story about her.

That makes me odd, too, I suppose.

I'm also odd, apparently, in that I do not find anything even remotely amusing about rape jokes. But, then I don't call my wife vile, disgusting names, either, to her or about her. Yes, clearly out of the mainstream, here.

Losing one's perspective and believing that some remote poor taste comment by a supporter will push women voters away from John McCain only illustrates the typical Olbermann fan's defect....have at it gents.

While in the same breath some SNOBamessiah supporters claim the average American does not find the twenty year spiritual bond between the Illinois Senator and a bombastic and radical fanatic disturbing......again have at it gents.

The argument of guilt by association is one I really think the Senator's handlers want to avoid.

But we all know how smart Keith Olbermann is.....he has shown his brilliance just recently with his public mourning over the loss of his esteemed collegue.

I hope Olbermann continues to try to drive the election agenda....the more radical and unhinged the better informed the American people will be regarding the democrats' radical choice.

They don't have a transcript archive that covers everything. Special Report's panel I believe gets transcripted every night. Other shows are hit and miss. There is the FDS service but that's strictly a pay operation.

The Radio Equalizer piece is interesting. I have no idea whether the substance of the piece has any merit or not. As a picture of a contract negotiation process gone bad, there is a certain logic to it all. Everyone tends to think he or she is priceless, but the hoo-hahs tend to price out everything and sometimes hold very firm. Were Judy Garland alive, she could attest to that. The argument that Laura is hurting the conservative movement seems overblown.

Whatever the results of the J$P poll may come to show, it appears from the numbers that Laura's first day pretty much smashed the competition. Whether that will hold up remains to be seen.

I wondered why Abrams audience actually increased over Olby until I remembered that they were showing the Gore endorsement speech. Olby seems to have settled into his accustomed second-place spot.

OK, here's a pop quiz. Without looking it up, who can remember the name of Laura's show on MSNBC?

I'm in a chat session with a tech support agent. Apparently, the cable is out all over Long Island. It could be a few more hours before the signal returns. That means I won't see tonight's "Factor" in full until I tape at 5AM. That means, I'll have to see the "Fox and Friends" Before the Show Show in a split screen.

June 18, 2008, 7:44:52 AM EDT – Like – Reply

Why would we need eight (8) detention facilities for approximately 400 people? I understand about half that number is scheduled to be released soon, anyway.

I don't think most of these people will ever make it to the US. Their stories will be an embarassment to the Administration and provoke international outrage. I am sure all of the broadcast and cable news people are lining up for interviews as soon as Guantanamo empties. The greatest fear of the Administration has always been a free and open press. Bringing the detainees to the US opens that door. And, I think that is a very good thing. When the media shines the light of truth on what has been going on with the detainees (largely a dog and pony show), we can redirect our attention to actual concerns in the War on Terror and begin to effectively fight it. Maybe that's just me. I trust the press and the Constitution far more than I do the Bushies.

Curiously, do you think she would be a good choice? But then, that's a hard question to answer, isn't it? Russert hosted MTP, braodcast and rerun on cable, but he also did so much work and made so many appearances on MSNBC shows, separate and apart. I can see Ifill doing MTP and doing it well, but I can't see her in the more aggressive or free-flowing roles.
