Olbermann Lifts Newshound Lie, Airs It as Fact!

Keith Olbermann is notorious for filching stories from the blue blogs, particularly ones that attack the eeevil Bill O'Reilly. But now his sloppy, unprofessional practices have come back to bite him. He aired an out-and-out falsehood Wednesday as fact, ripping and reading from the most unreliable source in existence.

On Countdown June 23 Olbermann assailed O'Reilly over his segment on Rep. Robert Wexler. After some crack about altering the color of Wexler's lips (a confirming clue as will be seen), he then turned the indignation up to '11' and ridiculed Bill for not knowing that Florida doesn't have a state income tax:

OLBERMANN: The Frank Burns of News then speculated that Wexler was somehow trying to cheat Florida out of income tax. Fund had to inform him that Florida doesn't have an income tax. "No income tax? This is where my argument falls to the ground!"
Don't believe us? Here's the video:

Unfortunately this is completely false, and in fact the opposite of what actually happened. It was O'Reilly who brought up Florida's lack of an income tax:
O'REILLY: You say it's legal. You can do that, based upon how he set it up. Now, taxes. Doesn't he have to pay taxes in both states if he has dual residency there?
FUND: Members of Congress can choose to pay taxes either in the Washington area or in their home state.
O'REILLY: OK so they have the choice. So he would pay it in Florida because Florida doesn't have a state tax. And Maryland taxes like crazy.
FUND: And you have just identified one of the big reasons he has to have this phantom residence, because that enables him to pay no state income tax.
Don't believe us? Here's the video of the segment, the video Olbermann was careful not to show:

Obviously Olbermann's entire segment was built on a lie, constructed around a conversation that never happened. So how did he come up with his twisted, doctored version of what O'Reilly said? Where else, but from the masters of twisting words and doctoring quotes, the newshounds (another fine product of the Outfoxed syndicate). No other site that we could find reported this peculiar, and demonstrably false, version of the conversation:
While Bill O'Reilly elaborated on the dubious charge, a photo of Wexler with unusually red lips was shown on the screen.... BOR continued the probe speculating about the state taxes Wexler pays insinuating that he is trying to cheat in some way. Fund couldn't help him with that either informing him that Florida has no income tax anyway.
Aha! Olbermann's "news source": another lie from the newspoodles.

We have exposed literally hundreds of falsifications, doctored quotes, and lies from the newsmutts on this site. There is no more dishonest source for smears against Fox News. But Keith Olbermann is supposed to be a journalist. He's supposed to check sources and facts before he airs a story. That means something more than merely lifting something from an unreliable blue blog and airing it as if it were fact.

To say that the next Edward R Murrow's journalistic standards are subpar would be the understatement of the eon. Does Olbermann not care that he is just spewing lies? Was the story "too good to check?" Can you imagine a "journalist" taking the word of a discredited blogger, without even bothering to look at the video to see if it's true?

You don't have to imagine it. MSNBC brings it to you every night, on Countdown with Keith Olbermann.

It's not only poor reporting, it's plagiarism.

And Fox and Friends gets in hot water for photoshopping? Sure, it was wrong and they should have been slapped down for it. But compared to what Olbermann does every night, it's a non-story.

Fox Friend,

I don't know why you told Newshounds posters to come to Dollar's site to find proof that the article did not tell the truth. All they need to do is to check out these words from the article:

Fund couldn't help him with that either informing him (O'reilly) that Florida has no income tax anyway.

Then they need to compare those words with the embedded video that is embedded with the erroneous article

This reinforces a point that that I have made previously about Newshounds regulars before. Many times, the evidence Newshounds presents (for one reason on another) does not match the article. However, (when that happents) most of the mind-numbed zombies of Newshounds never seem to notice. They just post their talking points . . . what they were going to say anyway . . . as if nothing is wrong.

I find it hilarious whenever I see that happening.

The zombies at Newshounds have been so thoroughly brainwashed that they seem to have lost all capacity to think or observe for themselves.

Hmmm I went to The News Hole and looked at the discussion after the article about todays show . . . the show that named BOR as worst person in the world. It said that there are no comments yet. It also said that comments needed to be approved before they will appear.

Wonder what the chances are that Steve's post will be approved. Slim and none? Or, is even that too optimistic?

I wonder what would be Fox's best strategy for handling their competitor's misstep.

Should BOR mention it? Or, would that just be giving too much publicity to Olby who trails BOR in the ratings.

Should it be mentioned on F&F or by one of the Fox news anchors?

It will be interesting to see what Fox actually does.

If I were Fox I'd start with F&F, and have them skewer Olbermann, running the video of him vs the video of what was actually said. Then I'd have O'Reilly contrive to do it, without mentioning O's name, just say that on MSNBC they flat-out lied about what he said. He could do that on air and on the radio. I'd issue a press release calling on Olbermann to retract and apologize. I'd ask MSNBC for a comment. I'd pull out the stops on this one. It is so bad, so obviously and incontrovertibly false. This big a chunk of juicy red meat doesn't come along every day so I'd crank it up to '11' and go for it.

I wasn't really giving them credit. I was just noting it as further proof that Olbermann lifted the story from them. I mean, where else was that mentioned? And we know Olby didn't get it from seeing the segment himself, or he wouldn't have lied about what O'Reilly said.

There is another financial gain for the Congressman. As explained in the article he can live in Maryland and use his congressionsl status to be taxed under Florida rules -- and Florida has no state income tax.

This saves paying Maryland income tax.

But Florida is a big, populous state -- and costs just as much to run as does Maryland. To collect all that money, Florida has an extremely high property tax.

By not owning property in Florida the Congressman avoids paying it.

Hey Deb, that's par for the course with your doctored quotes. You make up something that wasn't said, but the correct information is always in the video. As we have demonstrated countless times.

I love The NewsHounds correction.

"note: In the original post I mistakenly stated that Fund brought up the fact that Florida has no state income tax. However, it was O'Reilly who said that. The correct information was always in the video which was included in the original post."

Which basically means- 'sure, we make shit up, but the truth was in the video we had up the whole time, so don't blame us! You're the idiot for taking our word for it, and we're not sorry.'

I also wonder about the complaints of an "ambush." I tend to disagree with ambushes, but this guy is a public official living high on the hog thanks to our tax dollars, so he has a responsibility to be confronted with these issues. They had an idea he'd refuse to come on the show...and looky here- he was invited on Tues and Wed but refused to appear. So, there was clearly no other way to get him to speak on the issue. So what would NH have the media do? Force him to appear?

I guess the argument is - don't hold public officials accountable?

O'Reilly is not the greatest of characters either, but I give him credit for his campaign on children's rights against scum pedaphiles and the scum Democrat/Leftist pedaphile Legislators and Judges who enjoy watching our children raped. (THIS IS MY OPINION)
Also, I enjoy the fact that BOR is pretty non-biased, regardless what anyone else says. He has both sides on his show. Harold Ford was treated poorly by the Leftists for being on Fox. I am not a Dem, but I liked Ford's point of view.
Regarding this episode, Olbermann is nothing more than a complete whacker. He pines for an attempt to discredit BOR, who has been top in the ratings. I think Olbermann secretly wishes he were BOR. Maybe he has a secret crush on him.
