After I saw that "Common Sense" commentary yesterday afternoon, I considered writing to Neil. But I figured my e-mail probably wouldn't be read. So, I'll say what I would have said here:
I don't know why Tucker is wasting his time at MSNBC. He's too nice a guy, a moderate Republican at that, to associate himself with a gaggle of far-left ideologues. You know the ones I mean. I wish he could come to FNC. He could be a regular guest on many different shows, like "H&C." Unfortunately, there's no room for his own show.

I mean, there would be no room if he were to join FNC. He's still at MSNBC and I doubt he's going anywhere.

On The Mark
I agree with Cavuto and you about Tucker being a good and decent guy. He is a strong analyst, with a perspective that doesn't easily fit any party or philosophical classification. I am immensely fond of his perspective and of him.
I have to take exception with the notion that Tucker is out because he doesn't fit in with a "gaggle of far-left ideologues" at MSNBC. First, I don't think we can accuse MSNBC of being far-left or even near-left. That is a point I suppose we could argue endlessly, but there is no left media in the US outside of a few big city, targeted dailies ("The Defender". "The Voice", etc.) Secondly, Tucker couldn't carry his PBS show, could he? I simply think he is not a personality well-suited to his own show. He is invaluable as a commentator, and he is getting tremendous exposure in that role. He is not outrageous (O'Reilly/Olbermann/Beck), he doesn't have a shtick (Matthews/King/Van Sustern). If he couldn't hold his own at PBS, he is not going to be competitive in cable news.
Cavuto's comparison to late night comedy shows is, of course, ridiculous, as is the claim a hard-hitting businessman like Welch would have kept Tucker's show on.

I love Leno and am furious at the treatment he is receiving from NBC. But just so no one worries, competitiors are hot after him, and he'll be back on late night (within 6 mos.) soon after he is dismissed by NBC http://www.nytimes.com/2008/02/27/arts/television/27leno.html?pagewanted=print . And NBC will be sorry!!! Idiots.
I agree that Tucker doesn't have a "gimmick" to attract people as do the others mentioned by On The Mark. It's too bad that that's almost what it takes these days, because he IS an excellent commentator and observer of politics and culture. I think I liked his 11 p.m. program the best; he seemed to have more flexibility and could do things (humorous) that most talk shows wouldn't do. But even as I watched every night, I just KNEW that that type of program wouldn't last, because the "masses" would not take to it.
I sure hope Tucker finds a niche somewhere on TV. I know he's a writer as well, but his personality and sense of humor are wasted in the print media.

I also meant to mention that I'm glad Cavuto brought up the poor treatment of these two NBC personalities. Maybe someone from there will take note and realize they are making mistakes.
However, I also feel bad that Fox did not renew Laurie Dhue's contract. I know that this happens all the time in TV, but Laurie always seemed to do an excellent job in whatever program she was featured. And I liked the "Dhue Point", where she actually stood up to O'Reilly. I think Fox made a huge mistake in letting her go.

The video embed for this thread is yesterday's "Common Sense." Today's pulled the wool over my eyes. I thought "Wow, he is going to get a lot of nasty 'I'll never watch you again'-type e-mails." That was all until Neil said: "Mark it down, this day, April 1, 2008, April Fool's Day. ... Gotcha!"

I miss you on OW, Johnny!
Missy! It's good to see you! I had been hoping you would find your way to OW after ICN went down. OW is having some technical problems, but I'm delighted to discover where you're posting.
I agree with you about Tucker Carlson. He's one of my favorites.

Until then, we have to go to the "Countdown" website and painfully watch video of individual segments, or wait until the next afternoon and read the transcript. (shudders)

Hi Cecelia,
Nice to see you, too!
I haven't really posted on OW for a while, because it seemed as if the far left had almost taken over the place! For every one comment that was on topic, I saw about five that were just from typical vulgar Fox bashers, etc.
I like this site, esp. since J$ has now branched out on topics other than just FNC. I particularly like the "open comments" type forums that are now available here.

That's what kept me away, too.

Missy, I wish vulgar Fox bashers accurately described the trolls at OW. I wish they were merely "trolls".
Unfortunately, the site was invaded by a grifting set of lowlife thugs. Some monitoring software is being installed out of necessity.
I hope you'll visit when the site is back in business. I'll look for your posts here too.
