Fox Haters Week in Review

It's the latest edition of Fox Haters Week in Review, starring Janeane Garofalo, Roland Martin, Bill O'Reilly, and more!

Fact-Check Follies
Griff Jenkins' encounter with Janeane Garofolo has been the subject of a plethora of dubious bulletins:

Apparently none of these Pulitzer wannabees bothered to verify their facts before spewing. It wasn't a Fox News ambush. Fox didn't send Jenkins to do anything. It wasn't even a "Fox News camera": it was Jenkins's personal camcorder. And as readers of this site know, he wasn't following Garofalo around at all or looking to interview her. She walked into the Starbucks where Mr Jenkins was having a coffee! Oh, details, details!

Newshounds Out Roland S Martin as Gay!
While Ellen Brodsky is on vacation, her minions are still posting "critiques" under her name. And you'd think it was Ellen herself, based on the quality of the reportage. For example, consider this from "guest blogger" Brian:
"Pro America" Fox Stands By Perry's Secessionist Comments
Of course, "Fox" can't stand by anyone's comments, unless the Articles of Incorporation held a press conference and announced they were doing so. In fact, this was a Neil Cavuto interview with Gov Rick Perry. So did Mr Cavuto "stand by" Perry's comments? Quite the contrary, he directly questioned them. To "stand by" someone's comments means to defend or remain loyal to them. Cavuto did no such thing. In other words, it's a classic HeadLie that could have been written by Ellen herself.

Meanwhile, Priscilla adopts another of Ms Brodsky's tactics: the Incorrection. Bill O'Reilly did a segment on why gay Americans have not defended Miss California from the personal attacks she has received, adding that he hasn't seen any op-eds or tv/radio appearances where they have done so. Priscilla, genius researcher that she is, came up with:
Really, Bill? Perhaps if you had checked more thoroughly you might have found this opinion piece on CNN, by Roland Martin...
Well that's a shock! When exactly did Roland Martin become a "gay American"? Was that before or after he married his wife of seven years? Great work Prissy, but next time, maybe you should focus on someone else (look for dreamy blue eyes and shining white hair).

The Loony Bin
We really give this demented site more attention than it deserves, but sometimes it's just too tempting to resist. The geniuses at oreillysucks are still pulling stuff out of their...um...hats, blithely calling dozens of guests "Republicans" who aren't. This week's most brain-addled example:
And a pot segment about Gov. Schwarzenegger calling for a debate on making pot legal. And of course O'Reilly had 1 Republican on to discuss it...
Who was the "1 Republican"? Joseph Califano, aide to LBJ, Jimmy Carter's HEW Secretary, and part of the John Kerry Presidential campaign!

The sucksters have a question for O'Reilly:
How come you have never had one Republican on the Factor who says waterboarding is torture...
Too easy. You mean like John McCain? Or Lindsey Graham? And then there's this:
Almost every time Billy lets a Democrat on the show they are paired with a Republican. So it's always a 2 on 1, with O'Reilly and the Republican against the 1 Democrat. This is done on purpose, so O'Reilly has a 2nd opinion that agrees with him, then it always makes the Democrat look like he is wrong.
This is so patently fatuous that we could go on for hours with examples, but we'll stick with the last two weeks. Just the other day he did a segment with two Democrats and no Republicans, like he did just a week ago Friday. That same show had a solo interview with Huffington Post blogger Buddy Winston, kind of like this solo interview with Ellis Henican. And on the 5th Mr Bill went one-on-one with Marc Lamont Hill. Oh wait. The sucksters insist he is a "coward" and a "fake Democrat". Maybe that's why they didn't count him.

Prissy should look for a gay American with "dreamy blue eyes and shining white hair" to validate her point? Surely you don't mean Gutfeld's mom!

I wonder if "haggis" is one of the guest "bloggers/minions." The latter is a guarantee.

Re: "Fact-Check Follies": I'm going to assume that one of those links was a blue blog source for Keith "Rip 'n Read" Olbermann who took it as fact, naming Griff Worser last Wednesday night.

Great job J$. More examples where you prove that the haters are lying. BTW, I "stand by" my comments.

Perhaps I should wonder why what OS thinks matters to you? Perhaps, perhaps not.

This is beyond silly.
Big Momma has done it again.
Her lying headline about Fox "attacking" Biden. She also says in the body of the post that Fox "smeared" Biden by reporting his gaffes and reporting that he disclosed the secret VP location.
And the little sheep follow along as commanded.

The bunker story was first broke by Eleanor Clift of Newsweek--a liberal columnist for a left-leaning weekly. But it's Fox's fault for--what?--reporting what she wrote?!? Looks like I've got a head start on next week's FHWiR.

They are the gift that just keeps on giving. Though I hate to see the weekend come to an end, the Sunday evening FHWiR has become something I truly look forward to each weekend.

Ellen has another post about "Fair and Balanced". Once again she is selective. Her usual whine about "Fair and Balanced" is destroyed by your haters review this week.
Once a whiner, always a whiner.

I've never completely convinced on the thing about Griff just happening to be in a Starbucks with a camcorder as Garofolo came in.
It sounds a bit fishy, and I don't particularly think that he didn't have a FNC camera crew matters.
He's still an FNC employee and his tape here was aired on FNC.
To use an slightly inept analogy, it's sort of like that reporter who used doctored the Gibson tape (I know that Griff did nothing comparable), arguing that though editing is part of his job, in this cas he did it on his free time, so his employer has no relevance here at all.
Griff thing doesn't hold up either.
What Griff does with a camcorder, when it comes to public people in public places (especially when the stuff is later aired) most certainly could be deemed as a pattern that is implicitly sanctioned and even instigated by his employer.

I think you are correct, Cecelia, although I pretty much dismissed Griff at the time of the DNC.

Did Gerafalo ask to be left alone? Did she walk away? Did she willingly engage, willingly respond to questions, willingly share her views?
Maybe she's not familiar with what a video camera looks like, thought it was a portable expresso machine and believed Griff was using a new pick-up routine. Hey, it's possible

I wasn't making a point that Garafolo had been treated unfairly, I was replying to the unrealistic notion that FNC was unconnected to Griff's action of going up to her with his camcorder.
It's just not plausible to argue that FNC's imprimatur is not on this.

Cecelia, I'm on the fence about disagreeing with your assessment.
If Jenkins (for example) was on a vacation, happened to have his personal camcorder out with him, and saw Garofolo walking along and thought, "Well, I'll probably never have another chance to talk to her about this..." was he really working for FNC at the time?
At that time, Jenkins is essentially a "citizen reporter," who happens to work for FOX. Let me phrase this another way... what if instead of Jenkins, it was someone who worked in the graphics department out with their camera... would they have had to identify themselves?
Now I understand where you're coming from, and knowing that he's a reporter, and believing that the moment he started to "interview" her, he was probably thinking about how this would be used as his job... it makes the whole situation a little more fuzzy.
I think it's possible he wasn't, at the moment, working under the authority of FNC... he was working under his own volition, with his own equipment, and no formal ties to this story. But at the same time, if you're going to do something work related, even if it's in your free time, with your own stuff, you should probably identify yourself as such.
An interesting conversation subject... however, not interesting or important enough (IMO) to detract from Garofolo being a knucklehead.

Well, for my money Garofolo is more than a knucklehead, Blue.
This is a person who referenced brain anatomy (the limbic system) when talking about folks who don't hold her political views, and who has also attributed a mental disorder to people of color who are conservatives.
This is stuff of the sort of controversial "science" that we see come up every generation of so, concerning particular groups of people. The consequences of which we saw in Europe in the thirties and forties.

Jenkins stated he was on his own time, wondered why no one had disputed JG's racial allegations. He then traveled to Mass, to see her show, where she had hanks of hair chopped off her head because she said she was so stressed thinking all of those racist teabaggers were going to come after her. She then welcomed them if they were in the audience by saying " White Power." After the show Jenkins went to a nearby $bucks, was outside sipping a coffee, and JG showed up. He decided it was his lucky day and asked her the question on his own recorder. Was he thinking if it was good he could get it on tv? Surely, that's his job, and used to be how ALL reporters worked. Not just sequestered in a newsroom blogging and twittering and cribbing from the JournoList. This style of journalism is what made the very liberal Mike Wallace very famous. Jenkins only sin was being too nice and treating her like a lady. He has got to go for the jugular if he wants to succeed.
