In the Politico (Sunday Talkers) article, Isn't that photo of Tim Geithner and not the new CEO of General Motors?

What's the latest with Brian Wilson, Johnny? Is he still at FNC?

As far as I know he is. But I think there's something going on with this weekend reshuffle.

As long as he, Fred Barnes, and Mort Kondracke are still with FNC, I'll be fine. I never like to see anyone leave, forced out of, or not renewed by the channel.

The death of Tom Braden comes as a suprise since I thought he had passed away several years ago.
A fascinating guy really. WWII veteran, CIA agent, newpaper man (the TV show "Eight is Enough" was based on his life).
And he and Pat Buchanan started all of these "Crossfire" or point-counterpoint type cable shows we see today. Or used to see. I guess the trend is to go to one person juggling things.
As bad at the "Crossfire" type shows would get, I still prefer them over the one-big-ego-dominating-shows we now have.

Yes, some of those shows got real bad but it was the first "Fair and Balanced" program of it's kind.

At the start of "Huckabee," Mike mentioned the technical problem last Saturday that led to "The Factor" airing in his place at 8:00. Is it worthy of post as a video?

Well it's something we covered last week, so it's not that timely now. Besides, I have my hands full. Working on a Very Special Edition of Fox Haters Week in Review. It will undoubtedly ruffle a few feathers when it shows up tomorrow!

All I can think with Roger Friedman being fired is I hope he doesn't end up at MSNBC. Yes, I say this every time someone is canned, as I said earlier in this thread.

I think the Braden/Buchanan "Crossfire" era may prove to be the high point of cable news. A fined, balanced, informative, respectful production. Of course, the successors ruined it. Now, I find cable news so irritating that I scarcely watch it anymore. Beck is probably the most pathetic whining panderer on the air, but he has a pack on his heels: Blitzer, Hannity, (John) King, Matthews, Olbermann, Van Susteren. Not a one of them is worth 5 minutes of my time. From now on, if it's not on NPR or "News Night," I don't really care.

But we fully expect you to hang around here and comment on people you don't watch or know anything about......based on what you've read on blue blogs, of course.

The biggest problem is none of these current talking heads on cable news get challenged. Everything is a one way street, which leads to boredom very quickly for the audience. The "Crossfire" era did not have this problem

That's a very good point, TR. They have become celebrities who want adoring fans so they tell me what they think they want to hear. There is very little news. Then, this becomes self-perpetuating. Viewers turn to celebrities who confirm their own views. There is little appetitie for news on cable "news".

I enjoyed the O'Reilly analysis article. Glad to see him getting out there to promote his show. No doubt Olbermann has read that same article and is chewing nails this weekend, good old american 10d, 3" 9 gauge nails. Hee hee.
Tomorrow, BOR is WPiTW for not telling the truth that it is really K"C"O who is #1*.

Re: "O'Reilly analyzes his success": Glenn Garvin made Bill sound whiny at times. Also, he served up Another O'Reilly Attack for Keith "Man on Fan" Olbermann.

How could this be a "good point" when it's not even true? You crack me up!

It was a good article, but I can already hear Vendettamann's replies to rhetorical questions Bill asked Glenn Garvin. The replies will be something like "because you're a liar, harasser, racist, misogynist, flaming fraud" or something like that.

I agree. Now what is interesting is if a cable news network converts to the "Crossfire" format (with news in between), their ratings would improve. Instead of 1-3 million viewers, you would get 8-12 million, maybe more. Americans are tired of the bickering and want to see solutions implemented. Of course, this takes courage.
There was one segment on Fox yesterday between Alan Colmes and Cal Thomas that did this. The moderator was fair to both, it was a very good discussion on the Obama trip to Europe. Both men made some good points.
I don't usually praise Fox, but this was a good, informative segment without any cherry picking that normally occurs.

I'm not going to cheap shot Paula Zahn. My problem is with Rush & Molloy (the NYDN gossip columnists).
I'm glad UPS didn't really boycott "The Factor." Looks like Keithy got it wrong again.
