'Does He Ever Get a Story Right?'

J$P Audio! John Gibson catches David Shuster in another phony attack on Fox:

Audio only:

From The John Gibson Show, January 8 2008

Bill Corcoran
I wrote to John Gibson calling attention to my blog http://corksphere.blogspot.com/ which is entirely devoted to covering the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Gibson wrote back to me saying "nobody looks at you blog, not even your pals." Ouch! I then wrote to Gibson yesterday and wondered why it is he and Heather Nauert could go for a whole hour on "The Big Story" and never once mention 9 U.S. soldiers were KILLED in Iraq yesterday? Natually, I didn't hear back from Gibson and don't expect to hear from him because Gibson and Fox News have made a decision that the Iraq war is not worth covering anymore except toi try and sell the American public on how well the "surge" is going. If the "surge" is going so well how come 9 U.S. soldiers were KILLED yesterday?

I suggested to John Gibson I would imagine the familes of the 9 U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq wouldn't think Gibson is such a great patriot if he couldn't find just a minute to mention their deaths, but he can wear one of those stupid looking little American flag lapel pins which is supposed to mean he (Gibson) is a real patriot.

I then watched Brit Hume's one hour show with Brett Baier sitting in and again FOX NEWS went the entire hour and never once mentioned 9 U.S. soldiers had been killed in Iraq.

Fox News has obviously made a corporate decision to avoid any bad news coming out of Iraq and continue to sing the praises of the "surge" when everyday on my blog I point out how violence is INCREASING all across Iraq again.

I have always said it isn't what Fox News reports, but what they DON'T report which is most troubling to me as a former reporter and columnist, and in this case a former member of the U.S. Army Combat Engineers and a Korean War veteran.

Vince: I don't see where even ONE U.S. soldier was killed in the list you just posted. My argument is FoxNews no longer even reports on the deaths of Americans killed in Iraq or Afghanistan. They had plenty of time yesterday to make at least a mention of the 9 U.S. SOLDIERS KILLED IN IRAQ, but they didn't and I think that is not only horrible journalism it is also an insult to the families of the soldiers who died in Iraq.

Fox Fan: I wrote about how John Gibson and Brit Hume's show yesterday NEVER mentioned the deaths of 9 GIs in Iraq. If Johnny has proof they used, then he can put it up, but I watched both shows in their entirety and they NEVER mentioned the deaths of the 9 soldiers.

Maybe it was mentioned later on, but not on those two shows and those are the two shows I wrote about.

FOX FAN: This is an AP story and FOX NEWS should be reporting this story rather than all the other crap they run to divert attention away from the war.

I saw this story reported on MSNBC and CNN, but so far I have not seen it on Fox News.

Perhaps someone at Fox News will wakeup and reazlize they owe it to the families of the 9 fallen warriors to report this story even though it makes their claims about how well the "surge" is going look ridiculous.

That's certainly possible. But is it so surprising that two primarily political programs would devote almost all their time to politics on the day of the New Hampshire primary? Unless you're watching Fox News from 6:00 am to 11:00 pm you just can't make the blanket claim that Fox "didn't cover" something. I mean, did you even watch The Fox Report, the channel's nightly one-hour newscast? Oh well you can make claims, but you're not helping yourself if it turns out you guessed wrong.

Billy says: Vince: I don't see where even ONE U.S. soldier was killed in the list you just posted.

Well that's because there is a WAR declared on humanity by a certain group of dispersed people all of whom adhere to Method of Mohemmed and engage in Jihad for the sake of Allah.

Because these folks honor no Laws of War, they specifically seek to harm military and non-military persons (Takfir Muslims, Apostate Muslims, Kuffars, Polytheists, those who commit Shirk, pagans, and the worst, Jews) who are other than what they are.

Therefore, US Military Deaths, while unfortunate, is the wrong benchmark. The soldiers are doing the jobs they signed up for and engaging the enemy is part of the risks.

The neccessary benchmark in this war is the number of people being killed who aren't in uniform... for as long as the murder of innocents goes on, the war goes on... the murder being evidence of the intention of the war-makers.

By hysterically raising up each American military death you are creating an incentive for the enemy to kill more of them. By using each death as a call to withdraw the troops from battle. you ensure more of them are killed by the enemy so that the feedback loop you established can continue to favor the Jihadists who want to kill you. They really hate cowards and those who undermine their own cause.
Theirs is a demented honor-based society, and betraying one's tribe is a provacation... it'sa signal that perhaps you and your tribe (meaning us , the US) are perhaps ripe to fall.

I do wish you would see things from a more intellegent point of view instead of yoru self-searving emotional and obsolete one.

OK, OK, OK. If it was mentioned later in the evening good for Fox News, but my original message on this thread had to do with "The Big Story" and "Special Report." I will grant what Johnny said about "Special Report" being a policital show on the day of the NH primary, but that does not excuse "The Big Story." They covered a myriad of subjects including how two guys wheeled a dead guy in a wheelchair to a check cashing place and tried to cash his Social Security check. Couldn't they have at least put in one sentence about the 9 soldiers killed. AGAIN, MY ORIGINAL COMMENT WAS ABOUT ONLY THOSE TWO SHOWS ON FOX NEWS NOT THE ENTIRE DAY.

As for Vince's comment, I find it absurd that I would be helping the enemy by requesting the media mention the deaths of U.S. troops. I'm old enough to remember WWII, plus I was in the korean War, and I rememer the Vietnam War and the media always reported on the deaths of American troops. The public has the right to know.

This idea of hushing up the deaths of Americans in a war makes no sense at all and most of all is an insult to the fallen warriors and to their grieving families.

Bill produce your evidence FOX said nothing. Your sourcing of radical left-wing sites calls into question, as always, to prove your case. You are picking two shows that OYU claim said nothing but yet have no evidence to back your claim. I can tell you the deaths of MY HERO'S were mentioned. Also you need to learn, like all puppets of the AMERICAN HATING LEFT aka the AHP, that no one holds a gun to a service members head to take the OTAH that allows you to spew your venum aginst them. I took the OATH in 1982 and you claim you served in Korea. Is that your hatred of the MILITARY the fact you had to be DRAFTED in and hate yourself for not being a TRUE AMERICAN and signing the dotted lines FREELY? You claim to be a Vet yet still can't grasp the concept that AMERICAN'S have, do and always WILL sign FREELY TO DEFEND this country.

FOX News is notorious for running something about the war on their website, but not reporting the same facts on their TV show, or if they do they give a quick brushover. Simply mentioning during a "news break" that 9 U.S. soldiers were killed in Iraq is NOT covering the story.

I'll be FOX will go bananas tonight over the report today that 40,000 tons of bombs were dumped on a part of Baghdad. FOX loves all this killing and they are quick to point out that if civilians are killed that is just "collateral damage."

Fox was practically in tears on Fox and Friends that our Navy ships didn't blow those Iranina speedboats out of the water yesterday. I will never understand how people who busted their buns to avoid military service for themselves are so gung ho to send someone else's son or daughter into war.

I feel the same way about firemen, Bill. So many people avoid working for the local fire department... but when there’s a fire in their house, who do they call... psh-yeah... the fire department! Jerks... all of them.

In our world, Bill, only people who have done or are currently doing the job get to make the decisions! Never been a teacher... well then don't tell me about education and don't vote on that school budget! Never been a police officer... call someone else when your house gets robbed! Never been a farmer... well hands off my food!

If only there was a way people could make a decision to do a certain job or task… especially in the army. Something like, volunteering to do dangerous jobs. Except, instead of volunteering, they’d get paid to do it. In fact, what if we paid all kinds of people to do those difficult or dangerous, but necessary jobs. Yeah… that’s the world I want to live in… you and me… right Bill?

I watched "Special Report: tonight with Brett Baier filling in for Brit Hume. They did a whole segment on the Iraq war and even had a report from Jim Angle all about the "surge." However not ONCE did Angle or any of the panelists, Fred Barnes Mort Kondracke or Moira Shirer (sp?) mention the deaths of 9 U.S. soldiers in Iraq yesterday. If there were a Democrat as President the panel and Jim Angle would be reporting on the deaths of 9 U.S. servicemen and anyone who doesn't know that has their head stuck in the sand. Remember Blackhawk Down? The right wing press beat that story to death. Was that aiding the enemy as Vince P and others say? Of course that was when Clinton was President so then I guess it was OK to report about how U.S. military people were killed.

And what about the Marine Barracks in Lebanon during the Reagan administration: Over 200 Mariines killed. Was the press supposed to suppress this news?

BTW: Reagan took action. He got our Marines out of Lebanon right away. Good for him.

IMO Vince what is disgusting is how FOX NEWS doesn't even mention the deaths of these brave young warriors. Thank God for the local news stations around the country who always pay tribute to a fallen warrior from their hometown when their body is returned from Iraq for burial in their hometown. That is a fitting tribute and what a news station should be doing. But then we all know Fox News is not a news station. It is a tabloid news station and wouldn't know a hard news story if it were dropped in their lap.

OK, that seems to settle the question. Fox did report the deaths, and even put the video on its website. This discussion has veered WAY off topic but I thought it was an interesting one because I think Mr Corcoran has a point in that ALL the news channels (not just Fox) could give more coverage to this sort of thing.

Now that this has been cleared up, would greatly appreciate it if all would do their best to keep discussion at least tangentially related to the topic. Thank you so much.

Typical FOX News report. The headline was devoted to 40,000 pounds of bombs being dropped and nothing about the nine soldiers killed. In fact, the reporter only mentioned the deaths of nine soldiers at the end of the report.

Besides my initial report had to do with The Big Story and Special Report and for two days in a row these program--one hour in length each---could not find even 20 seconds to mention the deaths of NINE U.S. SOLDIERS.

The Big Story had plenty of time to talk about Britney Spears and Special Report on Thursday did a 10 minute segment on the "surge" and never ONCE mentioned the deaths of NINE U.S. soldiers.
