Regarding the kos post.....

Hatred is hatred whether one bases the prejudice on race, religion, gender, ethnicity, political POV or sexual preference. The extreme poles of this country are simply are full of hatred.

It seems that this always happens when a famous partisan passes or faces a life-threatening disease. We saw it with Ted Kennedy. Perspective and looking towards oneself when reactions like this occur make all the difference.

Political passion, like passion for ANYTHING, is fine until it sends the person off the reservation of basic human compassion and the love for justice.

Tony Snow will be missed. A decent guy with strong beliefs.

I am truly saddened and shocked by the news of Tony Snow's death. I think he was a great man. I was also hoping that he would bring some measure of balance to a news network (other than Fox) that sorely needs more balance.

Thanks for the audio tribute, a great man of class, dignity and faith. God bless him and his family.

God bless Tony Snow. He was an excellent professional. Snow truly was the opposite of vermin like Keith Olbmermann. Conservatism and the nation have lost a strong voice today. I think had Bush appointed Snow sooner, his administration would have been viewed in a much better light. I will pray for his family.

This is a very sad day. My prayers go to his family and friends. I always enjoyed him on both television and radio. He was a natural at what he would do, and he made it look so easy. God Bless you Tony, you will be missed, and it just won't be the same without you.

I feel bad for Tony's family. I feel their sadness. My father passed at 48. Tony was far to young, too. I see newshounds finally put up a post for him after I rattled their cage. No commenting allowed. Shocker!

I agree with all that Tony Snow was an exceptional man in many ways. I thought of this speech of his as soon as I heard the sad news about his passing. As with Tim Russert a man dying before his time makes the unbearable even more unbearable for family and close friends.

From News Busters

http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2007/11/03/tony-snow-slams-media-freedom-speech-award-address

"Although you likely didn't hear about it, former White House Press Secretary Tony Snow received a Freedom of Speech Award on October 16 from The Media Institute.

During his acceptance, Snow made some statements about liberal bias in the press, as well as the condition of the media industry, which fully explain why this event, as well as his address, went virtually unreported."

I think it is well worth the time to read.

You just knew this was comin'. Cause you didn't hear or see Tony anywhere for quite a while.

Tony was so upbeat and positive when he use to talk about this on O'Reilly's radio show with Bill. Lost my Mom to the same thing, but she was very positive up until the end.

Tony was a class act! ALWAYS! And I'm gona miss O'Reilly saying, "ALRIGHT SNOW".

So yeah, it's a sad day, but. Somewhere, Tony and Tim Russert are kickin' it back. And talking some football.

Good grief that Kos story is messed up. In the comments someone actually says that they have trouble showing sympathy for Tony's passing in the same way they would have trouble feeling bad about Hitler dying.

Just... Messed up. What creeps.

I've seen one more Diary at Koz that is just oozing with compassion, not.

In every one of their "ghoul" diaries there are always those who criticize the Diary b/c that is what RWers do, they are by nature far better than RWers and this community is just giving ammo to the mean nasty RWers. To be fair there also are comments that it is just wrong.

However, the much of the criticism is not b/c it is objectivly wrong but wrong b/c others will know that they did it. If only they were 10% as progressive, loving and compassionate as they always brag about.

Huff 'n Puff doesn't so much as close comments as they don't open it to comments at all (since one of the Cheney love fests, I think) to give their little munchkins a chance to display their viciousness.

Very sad. You've all made such wonderful comments about him; it's hard to add to the list.

He seemed like a well-loved, competent, principled man of integrity; someone loved by his family and the public alike. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

I also notice that NH has changed their statement at the bottom of the page. Formerly, they indicated the reasons that a comment could be deleted or edited. Now they basically say that they can do anything they want with the comments for whatever reason.

Well, before they lied about their comment policies. Now they truthfully admit they don't have any rules. . . it's just whatever the moderator wants to do. Before they disguised their anti-free-speech Stalinism. Now, it is openly there for all to see.

This is not for the faint of heart but may interest some.

Compare and contrast the Koz Kidz reaction to Tony Snow's untimely and sad death with their massive reaction to Saddam's murder/execution. I just picked a few random Diaries to read and skimmed thru the comment sections.

God help us all if anyone they support ever gains any substantial power in our country.

NH deletes comments that are "offensive". That covers a lot of ground. The children at NH are so eas to offend. It seems that somebody put a pea 20 matresses below them as they slept one night, causing them to be in a constant tizzy.

Just post that you work at FNC and you will put them into a coniption fit.

Effective immediately, ALL comments must be on topic and civil. Any flames, name-calling, etc., from anyone, will be deleted on sight. Under no circumstances should trolls be engaged or debated on the public threads. Readers are to IGNORE them, as troll comments are deleted on sight as quickly as possible.

News Hounds provides the Off Topic Forum where you can debate in whatever way you like on whatever subject you like, free of interference from us. However, when commenting on the main blog, you must abide by these simple rules at all times. Repeat offenders will be banned, possibly without further notice.

OS,

I think that you might remember that I actually quoted that passage to John t and some of his troll buddies. They just kept on with the personal attacks, which were not deleted (certainly not "on sight") I doubt that John t (and others) was even warned.

Your quote didn't seem to frighten them at all. Wonder why.

Did you see the e-mail exchange between ellen and myself I posted the other day? She said "I don't care what they call you, knock it off or I will ban you." I told ken when he was desperately spinning his wheel he was "getting desperate" and she considered it a personal attack! She got a nice e-mail from me in response which is probably posted in their "hate mail" forum. Their hypocrisy knows NO bounds.......

Returned to the States for a couple of days to the news of Snow's death. I can't imagine this was a surprise to anyone. And, if there is no shock, there is still sadness. As with anyone of faith, the sadness is not of the departed, but by those left behind. I have no doubt Snow is rejoicing the Lord's nearer presence. Snow was placed in many, many difficult situations in which a lesser man would have been compromised. But, Snow handled all with dignity, and without recrimination. He sets an example for many, and I know I'll be lighting a candle tonight and many will be doing so this evening and tomorrow. May his brightness and the brightness of his revered and respected memory be a light to all of us.

Watching the special episode of The Factor with BOR. Some great stories coming out about Tony, notably from Bob Beckel. Good for Beckel to share it, about a time in Hawaii. If you missed it, try to catch the rerun, I'm sure it will rerun late tonight.

I've added the Beckel/Thomas segment to the post. You are right; that story about Hawaii, and the time Beckel was drunk, is classic, and one I had never heard before. It's obvious Beckel would never have been eager to tell it!

Yesterday, Olbermann posted his comments about Tony Snow. They were very favorable, and respectful towards the former Secretary.

However, when I read them yesterday, something about it just didn't sit well with me. I couldn't put my finger on it, until this morning.

Wasn't it Olbermann, who bashed O'Reilly for saying nice things about Russert... and then showed video of O'Reilly criticizing Russert. He (KO) called him (BOR) all kinds of names, and I believe made him a WPITW.

AND YET, in this situation... which is virtually a complete 180... THE EXACT SAME THING, BUT IN REVERSE... everyone has forgotten that. Olbermann is able to do the same thing that he attacked O'Reilly for doing. When Snow was the Speaker, he attacked and attacked, and was his typical nasty, rude, obnoxious self. But now that Tony Snow is gone... he has nice things to say about him, hoping that the folks won't remember how awful he was previously.

Will someone, preferably a KO supporter, please explain to me how this isn't wildly hypocritical of Olbermann.

A cheap shot from a disgusting slug.

ImNotBlue, that sort of behavior from Olbermann is bewildering until you understand that in Keith's mind he's not being hypocritical. What he does and what O'Reilly does is the difference between a lie and the truth, between truth-tellers (those who hold his views) and liars (those who don't).

This sort of thinking makes it possible for Keith to live comfortably with all sorts of contradictions and also with what is really an "ends justifies the means", almost "holy war" mentality.

Your critcism of Olbermann is accurate, but I think the same applies to O'Reilly, as well. I find the two to be ethically and morally indistinguishable, both in their professional and personal lives.

nvh, that analogy would only make sense if O'Reilly had not allowed a counter view to "the war on Christmas" on his show, beause such views are "lies".

Your analogy would only make sense in the way YOU mean by "holy war" (rather than the the sense I meant in using the expression) if the secularization of the Christmas holiday and of society in general was some sort of extremist concept rather than a discussion that had been going on for decades with concern expressed on all sides.
