Hey, Johnny, I'm just curious. You like to defend Fox. Do you agree with E.D. Hill's calm, rational suggestion that Obama's fist pump with his wife was a quote "TERRORIST FIST JAB".

LOL. Got to hand it to you, Johnny. Trying to make raving right-wing lunatics like E.D. Hill look calm, rational or non-partisan must be tough work.

You're going to need to work on it though. Hot Air is a Republican website, owned by Michelle Malkin, and the overwhelming majority of the commentators think Fox is in the tank for the GOP and E.D. Hill is a nut.

So if you can't convince Republicans Fox isn't in the tank, you're not going to make much progress with others.

I'm also curious, since you seem to know a lot about Fox. Tonight on Hannity & Colmes I noticed that there was a "slight" disparity in the guest list.

Namely, four Republicans and only one Democrat.

Two segment solo interviews with conservative Pat Buchanan and Dick Morris, both of whom criticized Obama. Followed by partisan Republican pollster Frank Luntz.

H&C finally only got around to allowing a Democrat on the show toward the end, and what do you know, they handicapped him with a Republican guest.

So only one Democrat was allowed on, and only in the context of debating another Republican. Another good example of Republican privilege on Fox. Buchanan, Morris and Luntz are all given extra air time to make their arguments for the Republican Party, conservatism, what have you, while the only Democrat has to compete with yet another Republican.

H&C almost never does solo interviews with Democrats in which the topic is a negative toward a Republican, a Republican scandal, what have you. Yesterday they did a segment with Daniel Pipes on "Obama's flip flop on Jerusalem". Ok, has H&C done a solo interview with a Democrat on McCain's flip flop on "agents of intolerance" like Jerry Falwell, whom McCain denounced in 2000 and then kissed up to during this election?

Of course not. Why, that would be balanced. And Fox isn't in the business of balance. If Rupert Murdoch wanted "balance", he wouldn't have picked a man with a long history of involvement with the Republican Party to head Fox.

I'm sorry Haggis but I'm not going to respond to that and nobody should assume it to be true based on your word. You got caught lying about O'Reilly's program right here on these comment threads, and even admitted to it. Kind of shoots your credibility in the foot. Anything else you claim to have heard might be a lie just like your O'Reilly bit was.

So thanks for commenting but I prefer dealing with a more reliable source.

"Teasing a segment on the "gesture everyone seems to interpret differently," Fox News' E.D. Hill said: "A fist bump? A pound? A terrorist fist jab? ... We'll show you some interesting body communication and find out what it really says." In the ensuing discussion with a "body language expert," Hill referred to the "Michelle and Barack Obama fist bump or fist pound," but at no point did she explain her earlier reference to "a terrorist fist jab.""

I believe it first appeared in HUMAN EVENTS, according to TIME:

http://www.time.com/time/nation/article/0,8599,1812102,00.html

Much ado about nothing because it simply is a way of expressing joy in victory...the equivalent to my generation's "high-five."

I think it was silly for Hill to reference the claim because it has since been removed from the HUMAN EVENTS article. Also, it simply gives ammunition to the paranoid left that people are trying to make SNOBamessiah out to be a Muslim. I do not get that impression from the segment, in fact the guest makes great strides to imply the innocence of the dap.

BTW, I think SNOBamessiah looks rather awkward in his use of it, while his wife is egging him on to do it....Just like the "waving it off my shoulder" jive he tried several weeks ago with the bitter comment. His attempts to remove the effete leftist snob image forces him to act this way and it comes across as disigenuous.

Kudos to Laura for bringing up the issue of women's rights.

it is one of the tragic parodoxes of the Iraq invasion that women are now more vulnerable to religious extremists than they were under Saddam's regime.

And V,have you heard anyone anywhere refer to bumping hands as a "terrorist fist jab".The point is not what she meant, the point is why she said it at all?

One could assume Hill meant it as the dap means innocently "this" or even at worse "this" as expressed by "so and so." The worst interpretation is the one the left comes to that FNC is out to always paint SNOBamessiah as a Muslim and/or terrorist. People are entitled to their delusions of paranoia (oops, I mean opinions).

we'll find out what it REALLY says.

When you cite something and then follow it with, next we're going to tell you what it REALLY is, you are suggesting that what you just said is not true. Otherwise, why would people stay tuned to see what it REALLY is? Why is that so hard to understand.

at no point did she explain her earlier reference to "a terrorist fist jab."

Just as Time magazine did. They cited the terrorist explanation, then went on to explain what the gesture REALLY meant, and they didn't bother to return to the 'terrorist' explanation either. Because they had just finished debunking it.

What Hill did followed the exact same pattern as Time magazine. In fact, the whole segment was probably based off the Time magazine piece. So I don't see any distinction between what Time did and what Hill did.

> I misheard her saying she was quoting someone.

Odd. When you were caught on it you had an entirely different rationalization. You claimed it was a "test" to see if anyone would catch your falsehood.

Cee,

thanks for teh info.I had no idea that a simple hand gesture had generated such a fire-storm.

"Human Events racily suggested it was closer to "Hezbollah-style fist-jabbing," (the phrase was later removed from the article)."

If even Human Events found the description prejudicial enough to remove from an article, the question becomes doubly relevent, why did Fox find it necessary to introduce this term?
Since the following segment with the body language did not address why it WAS NOT a "terrorist fist bump",it couldn't have been to debunk the idea.

IMO this is just another little cut,a little throw-away smear of Sen Obama.

BTW, another perspective comes from Tapper at ABC:

"A McCainiac friend argues that MSNBC does the same type of thing to the presumptive GOP presidential candidate all the time, with Keith Olbermann naming McCain his 'worst person in the world,' and such. Maybe we should have some sort of contest for Political Punch readers to spot the over-the-top demonizations of Obama and McCain from anchors/reporters."

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/06/fox-news-asks-i.html

Although I do not think Hill was hyperbolic like Olbermann always gets when he slams McCain nightly, there is something to noting she is the only anchor who brought up the HUMAN EVENTS reference and that in itself does draw the attention to her.

Do I think she was trying to imply Michelle and Barry are Muslim terrorists?....no.

It hadn't been removed at the time, and as I said they were using the Time magazine piece as a source. One could equally wonder why did Time magazine find it necessary to include it. I don't think it was to imply Obama is a terrorist.

nvh, to me that sentiment is just the reverse of the way some folks "find the silver lining" in life under Castro by commenting on the free Cuban health care.

I think there's a valid argument to be made that it might have been in OUR (western) interests if Iraq had stayed under Saddam (the argument used about dictators vs. communists...), but if I were a woman living under a dictator-- whether in Iraq or in some conquered U.S. of fantasy, I'd want the dictator gone and the chance to be free beyond all arguments that it might be best for me to wait and see. To hope that things would get better for such and such reason or indicator.

I'd embrace the risk of being free now with both arms.

Not quite. The Time article amde it pretty clear that the term was from Human Events, and that it was recognizably prejudicial, and had been withdrawn from the article.Perhaps I am infering a lot from a mention of the term being withdrawn, but to me that implies that the idea was too bizarre for even Human Events to continue to run with it.

If Ms Hill had merely said "so it has nothing to do with terrorism",it would have mitigated the suggestion that it might have been an association with terrorism. But she did not do that,an the conversation veered into the personal, what it meant to the Obama's as a couple. The "terrorist fist jab?" was then left drifting on the breeze.

The fact that 3 million Iraqi's have "voted with their feet" and left the country speaks volumes about the magnitude of the chaos that has engulfed that nation. And with another million "internally displaced",that's 4 million out of 28 million, who are refugees.

As pertains directly to women,it is certainly a mixed blessing that Saddam is gone. There are women in the legislature, but honor killings of women with impunity has returned. And women must cover themselves in public.Particularly in Basra, fundamentalism has returned with a vengeance.

It's funny how the left fails to attack Time magazine for writing the article about the fist bump but they have no problem with attacking Fox News using the article in their report. Is it because time magazine has already put Obamanation's halo encircled mug on the cover of their magazine 4 times? The latest Rasmussen poll shows that 68% of Americans think that the media are pushing for the election of one particular candidate. Keep attacking Fox News while you are brainwashed by the Obama cheerleaders in the mainstream media.

Because I already posted that link and want links to be credited to my site, not to some haloscan server. I probably should have noted that the link can be found in the Weekend post. That is the preferred method for referencing something I linked in the past: direct people to the post where I put up the link, rather than repeating the link in the comments.

Another reason is that people post links in the comments as if they are pulling an Aha! Here's a story J$ doesn't want you to know about. The impression gets left that you had to post the link because I wouldn't, and that is an unfair impression.

Well, that people leave a chaotic war zone speaks volumes that it's a chaotic war zone where they might be killed. There's no disputing that.

The issue comes in comparing that chaos, that risk, and all the future risks and possible calumnities that anyone can fathom and then implying that authoritarian relative safety under a dictator is better.

There's something abract and almost spiritual that's lost in that. It's not the way we humans have thought and felt. And in the course of a war that has been extremely hard, there's a convenience to it and an opportunism.

You feel comfortable making that case, but were our roles reverse I might make other cases, but not that one. I couldn't.

Boy, do I hate Keith Olbermann.
Other than that, this place is all yours, HF. Have fun infiltrating. Bye.

P.S. Yes, not only is BOR failing with people my age (radical left idiots that they are), but my Cable News Discussion List is failing, too. It doesn't matter how many times I urge regular commenters to click on the link to my list info page and subscribe, they don't give a damn. They'd rather stay here and go off topic with the trolls.
You know what? I don't care that BOR is failing in the demo. Let the failure continue. He's still winning in total viewers and other demographics. That's good enough for me and good enough for him.
Remember these links:

Now, I can go. Bye.

1. No, she never said Obama's fist-bump was a terrorist fist-jab. See all the comments above about what her words really were, and how she was actually suggesting that it was NOT that.

B. Yeah, she apologized, but it isn't the way I would have done it.

III. And why did we need your link to Think Progress anyhow, when I already had a link to the apology and video of it posted long before you posted that? I need to figure out what your purpose was there.

I think E.D.'s piece was probably referencing the Time piece about what Human Events claimed. The rest of E.D.'s interview made it clear that this was a popular "high five" sort of gesture.

It's good she apologized for any mistaken impression these people so ardently wish to gin up and cling to with all their might. Matthews must apologize...Shuster must apologize...Hillary supporters want Olbermann to apologize... E.D. must apologize...etc. Feigning righteous indignation at the drop of the hat is now the lifestyle of the chattering class.

Unless it's truly a point of honor, rather than a petty squabble, go ahead and apologize. Nothing takes the fun out the catawauling faster.

First of all, Time is much more highly read than Human Events comment threads. Plus they often use Time and sometimes have the writers on to expound. Finally, Fox also ran a clip from "Wonder Twins" cartoon series, that was mentioned in the Time piece. I don't think Human Events covered that aspect.

> From that I'll take it you have checked and found that I'm right.

You want to keep harping on this I'll oblige you. What you can take from it is that I caught you lying once and so I'm not going to bother with what you say the second time. Because I don't believe you. Now if you want me to remind people of that a third time just keep asking.

What is it with you? I laid out the three points that show it came from Time. You on the other hand flat out claimed she had Human Events bookmarked, and apparently not only read all the articles, but also poured deep into the comments threads to find this. And your evidence for that is: square root of zero.

As I said, you lied about O'Reilly. Today you lied about your lie about O'Reilly (your deliberate "test" suddenly became an "error" where you "misheard"). So I don't believe what you say unless I get it from some more reliable source. I'm not your research buddy, and I certainly don't go around trying to disprove things from commenters who have a record of not telling the truth.

Hotair even think Hill got the quote from Human Events....Cal Thomas appears on Fox...So not that surprising she would use it from there.

"Curiouser and curiouser: The terrorist angle appears to have come from a comment left on one of Cal Thomas’s columns at Human Events that was then subsequently deleted. Why the script writer would have thought to rescue that from obscurity is beyond me. And even if you impute the worst motives to him, why he thought he’d be able to get away with it with media watchdogs monitoring Fox 24/7 is stranger still."

Oh well if HotAir thinks it it must be true! Surely the scripwriter dug into an obscure comment thread in Human Events. That's MUCH more likely than getting it off time.com.

It is hypocritical of Hannity to want more money because he is a Marxist who wants no one to have much money. He wants everyone to be the same.

Olbermann is, on the other hand, a libertarian. He want small government and he would like to do away with income taxes altogether. That's why Olbermann does not pay his fair share of taxes. And he would pay even less if he could get away with it

Already Hannity has many more listeners than Colmes. Thus, Hannity has more opportunity to promote the show than Colmes. If the move increases Hannity's coverage and brings more radio listeners, then it would give him more opportunity to promote the shows.

Since Hannity draws considerable more radio listeners than Colmes we can infer that he is much more able to bring loyal listeners to his tv show than Colmes.

Haggis please provide a quote from Hannity's show where he has urged someone to hate or despise someone else. I think you could do that with Olby with his worst person award. That award is not done tongue in cheek and it says that the person who said something Olby does not like is worse than all the rapist and murderers and genocidal maniacs in the world. He sets his victims up for absolute hate.

Now please tell me where Hannity has said we should hate someone because they said something he disagreed with.

So, Haggis, the big news on Breakfast this morning is the terrorist detention vote, and the sides are all scrambled. Brown and his labor loyalists all for it, the Tories and the Liberal Democrats divided. Live break-ins planned all day from Westminster. The Telegraph says 62% popular support, but most don't understand what it is about (as per GMTV).

Hey, Haggis. I just watched the BBC local for East Anglia, and they had a story about a piglet who wouldn't walk in the mud with his piglet siblings. The farmer would let the piglets out, and the difficult one would wait and squeal until the farmer put little Wellingtons on him. Then, he'd go sloshing. It was much like watching F&F with some substance. And, it was a very darling piglet.
