"The 8 p.m. program “Countdown With Keith Olbermann” is rerun at 10 p.m., where it usually ranks third."

Wouldn't it have been easier and more honest to simply state that 3rd is a chronic condition for KO whatever hour and against whatever competition.

Re: Gems from Chris

I saw that exchange between Matthews and Olbermann about Muhammad Ali and Slate writer Jack Shafer has left out a key bit of context here to say the least.

When Ali appeared on camera, it was Olbermann who immediately went off into left field about Ali resisting the Vietnam draft in the 60s, as though that action was the primary reason the man is considered great and was sitting in the VIP section that day.

Matthews sensibly brought Olbermann back to reality by mentioning that Ali beat Sonny Liston. That Ali was the best boxer of all time.

Frankly, I think Olbermann is behind the planting of these little snarks in the media that you see about Matthews after they co-host together. It's interesting that with all Olbermann's stumbles and cheap shots, he's rarely the focus of these sorts of attacks.

Chris Matthews likes to talk and talk over anyone around, and he shoots from the hip, everyone knows. However, most intelligent people do appreciate his knowledge of history and his insider's understanding of the political machinations of DC. I have nothing in common with Matthews politically. He's been given leeway to be deadly partisan and he shoots off at the mouth, but his observations are not all "superficial observations" as Shafer characterized them. Not nearly.

With Olbermann alone we'd get nothing but the content of Blue Blogs as he scanned Daily Kos for talking points while hosting.

That new 10pm Republican hate-fest on MSDNC will surely add lot of useless information to the already brainwashed minions who watch that channel.

Olbermann's behind it, so you know it will be another show with no conservative viewpoints. He's not going to give up his rerun for anything less than an Obama lovefest.

Let's hope that the Obama camp sees that this "lovefest" will come with a price.

With Olbermann the price is that he'll shill himself for the Administration and that they will in turn treat he and his fans as a constituency in order to give him power (political and professional).

I was attacked yesterday for saying President Obama had become President at exactly 12pm 20th Jan 2009 without a word being spoken. I just hope all the attackers watched F&F this morning...as Doocy backed up my claim 100%...And not just once but several times.

The Friends of course had a go at Obama this morning...No surprise there I hear you say  ...they said Bush never took his jacket off while in the Oval office....Some thing to do with showing respect for the office....I haven't a clue what that has to do with anything. But of course they had a photo of President Obama with his jacket off yesterday in said office. Do these folk stop at nothing.

I thought folk might be in need of a good belly buster of a laugh tonight. So here's a quote from the one...the only Bill O....And I bet he said it with a straight face.

"So, the lesson here is clear: No longer can the American media be relied upon to bring us fact-based information. The news media has entered the ideology business much like talk radio. This will greatly harm the nation, as unbiased information is critical for an informed citizenry. The collapse of journalistic standards was a huge but largely untold story in 2008."

Yet another right royal belly buster from Bill

If you had listened to Robert Gibbs this afternoon....He explained why the 2nd ceremony took place. 20mins now is better than years of fighting latter....The usual suspects would eventually pop up from wood work...claiming he wasn't really President (total nonsense of course)...Just like what happened over the authentic birth certificate. Yet another wise and preemptive move by president Obama.

Uh, Gibbs said they acted "out of an abundance of caution," about 15 times to 5 different questions....I conclude that scary bogeyman (VRWC) is already influencing the behavior of the supposed calm & cool new prez!

Why were they simply assured in your conclusion yesterday that the change in authority was automatic, Haggis?.....I thought it was all about hope over fear?

Come come Haggis. Just yesterday you were bravely standing up to the VRWC in scoffing at such partisans like FNC's Chris Wallace & Brit Hume.....now you change your tune and cower with your support of the reactionary and unecessary re-oath?

Did Gibbs really want to convey such worry about the bogeymen "freepers?"

But wait for it...Glenn Beck has now chipped in...He's worried about the lack of a bible...But as everyone knows....there is no need for a bible to be used.
What next on the Fox airwaves....A large plump man saying he hopes Obama fails...Oops that's already happened. Just imagine if Rachel Maddow had said that just after the Bush inauguration 2001....Fox would have treated it as treasonous talk.

"[Beck is] worried about the lack of a bible...But as everyone knows....there is no need for a bible to be used."

It seems Beck did not imply the re-oath was not legal because of the lack of a Bible. He simply observed the lack of one.

It is not surprising TR used a law book, based in his personal beliefs.. But Obama? A proud Christian with a powerful testimony? Why the change?

It is interesting that such things seem to only be important as symbols for our new president. Why Lincoln's bible out in public but nothing when in private?

Beck may have not had the correct historical facts, but his discussion was not about the legality of not using a bible.

Oh, please. Not even the Obama Administration can have it ALL ways. YOU certainly can't...

They and you can't BOTH argue that there is obviously NO need to do something and ALSO argue but you'll do it anyway in case someone brings a law suit.

They are NOT likely to be in the mode of second guessing everything based upon the possibility of someone bringing what they say would be a frivolous and unfounded suit.

Obviously, they learned pretty quickly, what Chris Wallace knew ten minutes after it happened. They were informed that there could be legitimate Constitutional concerns, and so they decided to put them to rest.

They did THAT while never admitting the slightest possibility of any illegitimacy. Completely understandable. What Administration would NOT handle such a thing precisely THAT way?

However, if Gibbs impugned ideological opponents (who have not made threats) in the process of covering his bases, THAT bodes very ill for the message of unity, indeed.

My point with Haggis is why not change the channel.
Of course Doocy and Carslon favored McCain, of course Hannity did the same.
And those people will hold Obama's feet to the fire more for the little things than anyone else. Haggis needs to realize that.
