'I'll Give You 100 Bucks if It's True!'

J$P Video! Roger Stone invokes the elusive "whitey" tape:

From Fox News Channel, June 1 2008

notveryhow
Speaking generally,is their anyone who truly believes that at no time in a black person's life would they ever feel they have a really good reason to feel angry at white people?

Speaking directly about the clip. This tape better turn up,or Mr Stone will have shown himself to be a rumour monger of the basest sort. This is a very inflamatory allegation.

Well I know the first thing I want to do when a Muslim upsets me is head on over to the church, and sometime during the service, maybe when they're mention who passed away last wekk, i'll grab the mike from the pastor and start ranting and raving to everyone.

That always makes me feel better.. so yeah I could understand it. Doesn't everyone do this?

Stop making excuses for blacks, 'nvh.' I'm Native American and I have ample reasons to point the finger and cry like a baby. Those people should learn to get over it and better their lives instead of living in the past!

Just my humble opinion but I think Geraldo is soon to be about 100 bucks short in his bank account.

I'm sure if the O campaign crew had a tape with Cindy M. using the "N" word they would just spike it. At least that's the vibe I was getting from the Democrat spokesperson.

I was just over at Rush's website, and he heard that the "whitey" tape will be released by the Republicans in October.

But OTOH, Geraldo's source had accurately predicted the Eliot Spitzer hooker debacle. So maybe this guy is on to something.

Start "wit" whatever you want Royal King, but end it with something at least tangentially related to cable news for a change. For example, a comparison of the analyses offered by Barone and Todd would be nice. I tend to think the distinction is largely between a Reagan Revolution mindset v. a fresh 21st century approach, but you might well differ. I would be interested in your perspective.

Actually, the only thing you were interested in (other than cable news and your own reflection in a mirror...) was implying that OS is racist for saying "those people". Evidently, jumping to the conclusion that African-Americans are generally angry at "whitey" once in awhile, is okey dokey...

What happened with the moniker "Lucette", Mark? You couldn't find the right side of coral lipstick to set the mood?

Fox is really dam stupid its a fact. They do not fact check a thing they just report as news, well of course without doing off hand disgusting jokes but of course smears and slant to the new. Thank goodness I do not watch a racist, ignorance, no fact checking dumb asses. Fox even said they did their research

http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/ham_sandwich_confusion_not_slander_86334.asp

and of course with some ignorant racist jokes. As a result they were duped cause no one else reported it and had fun taking that as neews. A certain someone on the network didn't even know nuclear weapons are weapons of mass destruction. OUCH! There are people who struggle with learning that watch real news learned that fact, months if not years ago.

I find it interesting that people love to point out when Fox gets something wrong. But they never point out how this happens all the time. it's like only Fox ever confuses parody with fact.

Two can play that game. Keith Olbermann was duped because no one else reported it and stupidly took it as news: a made-up report from a nonexistent doctor that was a parody and Olbermann reported it as fact:

It's kind of hard not to when they make it a point to call one another that. Heck, there's an entire industry based on it.

You may be far younger, Kevin, but I am old enough to remember hearing the "N" word a great deal. I read a columnist the other day saying that America's 40 year civil war, stretching from the King/RFK assasinations to the present is finally ending. That we are about to enter a period of reconciliation and rebirth. Let's hope. The "N" word predated that civil war and continued for a score of years afterwards. It was very, very common.

I have only heard African American comedians use "honky" in reference to a White American, but I am sure if an "ordinary" African American man or woman had used it, he or she would have been beaten or lynched.

Although I am a White American, I sometimes use "honky" to refer to racists. In fact, I have used it several times with reference to a frequent poster at this site.

"Cracker" use to be very common, but is was generally used by White Americans in my part of the South to refer to other, lazy, poorly educated and ignorant White Americans. I think in the Deep South, particularly people from Alabama and Mississippi, use "cracker" to refer to refer to anyone from Georgia. The former US Senator and faux Texan Phil Gramm, now a paid lobbyist and McCain campaign advisor, was from Georgia, and he was routinely referred to as the Grammcracker.

Despite lingering racism, we have really come a long way in a short time. It is cause for cheer as much as the remaining racists are a source of shame and embarassment.

We're talking about the point in time, not the particular event. It's like giving directions. You are going to your aunt Traudl's new house. She tells you to turn right at the Vanity Fair Plus Size Outlet. The discussion is not about large lingerie, it's about how to get to Aunt Traudl's (who is, perhaps, conveniently located to a store offering foundation garments for robust women).

More seriously, the theory was America has entered a time of great divisiveness that, at least, paralleled in time the King/RFK assasinations, and it has not been united since. I find some merit to that argument. I would add that we were momentarily united, in the immediate aftermath 9/11 and before the botcher occupation of Iraq began and we began to learn the truth about the invasion and its pretenses. As awful as that time was, I think the sense of unity and purpose was wondrously satisfying. The author thought, perhaps, a sense of the New Deal, a New Frontier, the Great Society might once again capture our imaginations amd refresh our psyches.

A lot of the youth use the N word that's because black people thought it was clever to saturate the media with them calling each other that word.

Well, that's rather a hard sell since using King's assassination as a starting point would most certainly encompass the divisions that the author thinks Obama's ascendancy might heal, as well as the era of babyboomer challenge to societal conventions, including racial strife.

My guess, is the author's premise is more easily likened to your psychiatrist explaining to you that there are specific boundaries between your psyche and the rest of the world, though they could both be described as "big blue balloons". The writer has inculcated every negative event into some historical right wing dispensation that is concluded by Obama.

Of course, you're still missing the point. The point was not that the MLK/JFK assasinations and the reaction to them was the cause of the divisiveness. Rather, the period of was a bookend, the start of a row in which America began a downward spiral. The reasons are multi-fold. The reversal, the other bookend is prophesized as the Obama phenomenon. He is not the cause for this necessarily. He merely marks an end of cynicism. Read some Hegel. People eventually despair of cynicism, ego-worship, corruption and no era begins. The assasination of JFK was not the reason we lapsed into despair, and rise of Obama is not the reason we pull out of it. Rather, they are symbols of cganing moods.

Never mind. You still seek the dichotomy and spurn the unity. I suppse it is a world view some have grown accustomed to and comfortable with. A shame, but the greater mass is moving forward. We can rejoice.

Very interesting ideas.

I've always defined the beginning of the pendulum swing to be the Reagan era. Progress continued to be made throughout the 70's.Even Nixon, for all his personal bigotries, was publicly a supporter of Civil Rights. But specifically the launch of Reagans Presidential campaign in Neshoba County, Mississippi, when he referenced his support of State Rights, the social pendulum began to swing back.

Now we are confronted with a cusp,a turning point in the history of our nation.I am hopeful for the future, but also fear a return of rancor and racial bitterness. It's like the left handed Chinese blessing:"May you live in interesting times."

Too, specific an appeal, nvh. You have to pretend to be speaking on a broad scope while being utterly self-referential.

Awww....but what the hell... it's quite a relief that you can now find redemption by renouncing the dichotomy and seeking the unity...by embracing the symbolism that is embodied in the phenomenon of the first African-American candidate for president (and maybe get a little New Deal or Great Society program in the process...).

Otherwise, you've rejected the winds of change, the ferry to the future, the u-boat to utopia.

You're culturally AWOL and S.O.L...
