Beneath even Megyn Kelly and FNC: the graphic footer: "Outraged Liberals: Stop Picking on Obama's Baby Mama". This type of slur, racist to its very core, needs to be condemned by ALL cable news viewers, especially FNC's most ardent defenders. Of course, this was all in the context of a rather bogus Kelly piece with the utterly reprehensible fraud and firebrand Michelle Maulkin on whether the potential first ladies are relevant to voters, which ended up being simply slam Michelle Obama piece. In fairness, Kelly half-heartedly tried to interject some level of perspective. While I am willing to give FNC the benefit of the doubt and say that was a dreadful, shameful aberration, FNC crossed a serious line here.

Yes, Kiran is cute, but I can't shake the image of her being the "F&F" co-host that didn't like being pushed out by Gretchen and jumped to the evil competition (MSNBC being the eviller competition). Am I reading that correctly or did I read into it wrong when it happened last February?
What would say about this "baby mama" Deko graphic if MSNBC did it?
Boy, does TVNewser love Keith, and boy, do they love to make it seem like there's an actual feud going on. Nobody can talk about how they do in contrast to their competition without it being labeled as a feud. By the way, I'm sure BOR's grade school teacher that gave him the evaluatory compliment that became the title of his new book, "A Bold, Fresh Piece of Humanity," would love Oralmann's implication last night (based on the title) that the book would be a piece of s***. Real nice. I say those last two sentences with sarcasm.

Just to try to tie this back to the topic, Vince, I assume you have absolutely no problem with this FNC/Kelly/Malkin abomination? Would you say that this might be a more-or-less common reaction amongst FNC fans, or do you think it might be limitd to you and a few others? Perhaps other FNC fans find this a serious breach of journalistic ethics?

Not a grammar lesson, but as to substance. "Abomination" is the noun here, and Kelly/Malkin/FNC are proper nouns serving as adjectives. In other words, the abomination is the act, the footer, not the people. That is a most important distinction, although it may not conveniently fit in with your preconceived notion.
Malkin is not an abomination, but she is reprehensible, not because of who are what she is, but because of what she does. FNC engages in a reprehensible act by giving a reprehensible person a pulpit.
Of course, I don't think Malkin inserted the graphic. I think that is a reprehensible act by some FNC editor. I would like to see FNC apologize for a mistake made (I am still not ready to whole-heartedly, across the board condemn FNC). However, FNC "fessing up" to any error is rare indeed.
And, yes, Vince, "baby mama" is, beyond doubt and with absolute certainty, a racial slur. Let's just hope it was a poor joke by some lower level editor. I would like FNC to weigh in on this, but, again, I would be surprised if it did.

OTM: I believe in viewing things as a rational human being. Therefore what is the more rational explanation.
1 - The Fox producer understood "Baby Mama" to be a racist insult
2 - The Fox producer understood "Baby Mama" to be a informal cutesty celebrity-tabloid phrase
Since I have a brain, and am not blinded by ideological zealotry, I chose 2.
Looking at a Slate article from 2006. I'm pretty sure this term has evolved into even more offensivelessness since then:
[...]
The Oxford English Dictionary defines baby-daddy as "the father of a woman's child, who is not her husband or (in most cases) her current or exclusive partner." The baby-mama entry follows the same template with the genders reversed. But some gossip writers have been adopting the first part of the definition and ignoring the second.
[...]
These days, the terms no longer seem "chiefly African-American"they're everywhere, the latest bits of hip-hop lingo to gain widespread use. [...] But just as often, the connotations are strictly biological. Baby-mama has even made inroads in Japan, where it's being used on a Web site that appears to sell strollers.
Who knows why these terms became catchphrases? Perhaps it's just that they're metrically pleasing: Baby-mama and baby-daddy are undeniably fun to say. But it's the novelty factor that explains how the words lost their negative connotations [...] But it seems there are also plenty of writers who just like the way the words sound and don't care much about the stigma once attached to babydaddyhood.

I must also add, Vince, I find your comments about Mike gratuitous and offensive. I can't think of anything he said or did, substantively or ideologically (and Lou Dobbs knows you are much closer to Mike ideologically and in your fondness of FNC than I) that would warrant such a comment.

Well, that makes it all fine then. Let's just hope none of the cable news outlets pick up on McCain's pet name for his wife and begin making crawls with that (which I suppose would violate FCC guidelines). Let's also hope Senator Obama never called his wife, Snuggle Muffin, so we don't have to live through that.
Seriously, you don't think that there is some distinction between terms of endearment between a couple and acceptable fodder for cable news?
This is my last word on this topic. The rabid FNC defenders and apologists are making me retch over this. FAQ's from the FCC website:
Do the FCC's rules apply to cable and satellite programming?
In the past, the FCC has enforced the indecency and profanity prohibitions only against conventional broadcast services, not against subscription programming services such as cable and satellite. However, the prohibition against obscene programming applies to subscription programming services at all times.

Oh my, thank you dear leftist moral judge for your verdict....May I quote Ms. Obama (the post-racial candidate's wife)?.....
"BLITZER: We can take a look. Maybe he will and maybe he won't but she looks like she's about to introduce him. Let's listen in.
"MICHELLE OBAMA, WIFE OF BARACK OBAMA: My baby's daddy Barack Obama. Yeah!

And since you have pronounced from on high that I am a racist, the fact that I was not aware that "Baby Mama" was automatically a racist slur confuses me about my designation now!

Truth be told, for someone who can roll 'vile leftist" off his keyboard as an automatic response, probably not.But let me try.
Vince,go to a diner on the edge of Baltimore, and start calling your black middle aged waitress "mama",and let us know how that works out?
At a baby shower,a dear friend refered lovingly to his wife as his "easy bake oven".Now not knowing them, and meeting them on the street, ask him how his obviously pregnant "easy bake oven" is handling her swelling belly, and let us know how that works out.
I think demeaning attitudes toward women is a contributing factor, as well as a willful blindspot towards racial stereotypes, to the far rights easy acceptance of this use of language towards a black woman.
It is sad that some can not recognize how this is demeaning to women, blacks, and Ms Obama in particular. It is tragic that a news network would not care.

Over the past several days I watched a DVD of the most recent Rambo film. The movie involved Rambo's rescue of missionaries who were captured by a murdering, genocidal general in Burma. Scenes of rape and torture and genocide were extremely gruesome. Even more disturbing was the commentary on the DVD that the writers had to tone down the violence that was actually occurring in Burma in order to get it on to the movie screen.
However, the murdering, raping, genocidal warlords of Burma do not even deserve an honorable mention for the "Worst Person of the World" award. Nooooo a reliable source (Keith Olbermann) says that dishonor belongs to Katie Couric. And what was her horrendous crime?
I hope you are ready for this. If you have a queasy stomach read no further.
She maliciously accused the news media of sexism in their coverage of the race between Hillary and Obama.
With great viciousness and cruelty she told a specific reporter (whom she will not name publicly) that he should get another job because he is not objective. She said that to his face! Can you believe it!
Ohhh the horror. The horror. Never let it be said that Olbermann is over the top or inflammatory in his language. Katie Couric really is undoubtedly the worst person in the world. She deserves derision. She deserves to be despised. She deserves at the very least to be imprisoned for the rest of her life for her horrible, horrible crimes against humanity.

Haggis, I agree with The Factor. Keeping prices down with additional supply is another answer that the Democrat controlled Congress refused to pass. Senator McConnel is right to characterize the democrat's position as that of wanting higher prices to force the American people to consume less energy. Why else would the democrats have wanted to institute a windfall profits tax that, when done previously, it resulted in a decrease in supply and an increase in prices?
The problem is that the republican POTUS nominee is also against increased domestic production so there is no political issue here. To the detriment of the security of our country, BTW.
It is the same with the granting of US Constitutional rights to POWS/alien combatants today....McCain is no different than SNOBamessiah here as well. To the detriment of the security of our country, BTW.

I will say as to Cooper, his comment was in questionable taste, but unlike the unfortunate Malkin and FNC editor, he was TALKING TO Ms. Brazile and not ABOUT her. That is a key distinction. The ability to immediately respond, to treat someone equally and fairly in the course of a conversation.
Ms. Malkin is not worthy of any discussion.

With the endless demands for apologies and firings these days, I'm wondering if it hasn't become of a bit of PR stunt by media members to pull the chains of the political junkies in order to get all the internet a twitter every day. The clips passed around alone must be thousands in free PR.
Wasn't it just last week that Keith Olbermann was said to have wanted Hillary beaten up?

Haggis please provide a quote from Hannity's show where he has urged someone to hate or despise someone else. I think you could do that with Olby with his worst person award. That award is not done tongue in cheek and it says that the person who said something Olby does not like is worse than all the rapist and murderers and genocidal maniacs in the world. He sets his victims up for absolute hate.
Now please tell me where Hannity has said we should hate someone because they said something he disagreed with.

So Off the Mark is saying that because Coop said the "slur" to Donna Brazile face, it is OK but since no black people were present when the screen cap was show on Fox News, it is racist? That makes sense..LOL
So Off the Mark, how do you know that the intern who put up the screen cap was not black?? Oh and since Michelle Malkin had nothing to do with the screen cap, I don't even know why she is part of the conversation.

As I recall, Hannity only made people Enemy of the State who had actually defamed our hurt this country in some way. He did not just make people enemy of the state because they disagreed with his views. That segment was scrapped pretty quickly and was never done on Hannity and Combs. Surly you can find a better example than that?

Don't start, Haggis. I'm definitely not in the mood. TP is not a news source; it's a partisan site that only attacks one side, steals the work of other sites without acknowledgment, and has been caught doctoring and slicing video/audio bits to forward a lie. And that's just what I've documented myself.
I already linked to Shine's comments so why did you feel any need to? In fact, since your playing innocent game is getting on my nerves, I am going to strike that link. If your purpose was to let people know what Shine said, as you seem to suggest, you will be pleased to know that the link I posted some time before you jumped in will do that just as well.

Interesting program choice, and I rather liked his candor. I don't know if he'll wear well over the long term, but he ought to be good for some laughs. And, as the election drags on and concervatives become even more disaffected, he could be a real thorn for McBush!
Slightly off topic, although much mentioned: Thank goodness for the Supremes salvaging some small portion of our Constitution! As for Mr Sucks' question: "Have Malkins words ever killed anyone?," I can fathom neither the import nor the relevance, but I simply do not know. I understand she once hurled an over-done standing rib roast at her maid, then bounced boiled new potatoes off her head as she was cleaning up the mess. Supposedly, there is a clip of this which will be played at the appropriate time.
None of that is true, of course. In fact, kudos to Ms. Malkin for rejecting the bogus "whitey" clip. Even in darkness, goodness sometimes lies.

Don't you think this quote is a little silly? Even Sergeant York, a conscientious objector, ultimately decided that it was best to kill people who were threatening the lives of himself and his friends. What the quote describes is not so much hate as a natural human response to a clear and present danger.
On the other hand, poor Katie Couric, the worst person in the world, isn't threating the life of anybody.

What does it take for media members to finally criticize a guy who hosts a cable news channel's political coverage and who must recuse himself from interviewing Republicans... a guy who uses his "news" show as his own ideological platform and echo chamber...a guy's whose endlessly hyped personal hit piece commentaries make the Howard Beale character from the movie Network seem like John Chancellor in comparison...

Is it not possbile to recognize that Ms. Malkin sometimes says what is true, and sometimes does not? That she is sometimes on the side of the forces of darkness and sometimes on the side of the forces of light? That the same can be said for Olbermann and every cable news personality? That the same can be said for each of us? And, isn't it our job to separate out the wheat from the chafe? We can whine and moan all we want about who is on the boob tube, but, in the end, we walk away with what is important and what is not. Hannity doesn't dictate my ideology or color my view, unless I cede that to him. I am not willing to do so anymore than you are to with Olbermann, Mr. Sucks. So, why the frenzied panic? In the end a site like this is much more about making us intelligent viewers and listeners than it is about being hyenas scurrying about a carcas we have stumbled upon.

OTM,
The exact words that you used is that she is not worthy of discussion. To say that she is not worthy of discussion is different from saying that she is not relevant to a certain discussion.
All people do have a certain innate worth. A newborn baby who hasnt done anything is worth a discussion. Hell, even Hitler is worth a discussion. Even people who are beneath contempt are worth a discussion. And why would a person who is a frequent contributor on a cable news channel not be worth a discussion in a forum that is devoted to discussing people who are on cable news channels?
The only explanation can be that you regard Malkin as a nonentity . . . a non person. That is the meaning that Vince took from what you said, and I think that his interpretation is fair.
I also think it is funny that in your latest post, you spent a lot of verbage discussing a person whom you said is unworthy of discussion; yet in all that verbage you never explained why she is unworthy of discussion.

Just do whatever he hell you want to. In the end, all you'll do is pander to and encourage Cecelia and Jeff's/Royal King's/Mr. Suck's, et al's tiresome and nasty game. More misrepresentations, more recriminations.
Did I use more than one name at OW? Yes, I did?
Is an IP address an arbiter of this matter? Who are you kidding? Of course, it's not. An IP address is virtually meaningless at this stage of the internet, and you know that better than anyone posting here.
Whatever, I will not respond to Cecelia's and Jeff's/Royal King's/Mr. Suck's/et al's nasty, off-topic and pointless posts anymore. So, by all means, let them have at it to their hearts' content and to yours. They don't warrant the unplesantness inflicted on me and other posters, whereas you do warrant the respect not to pollute your site. I'll do it no further, and will refrain from responding to them in kind or tangentially, again. Too good a site for that ever-growing mound of stale crap.

Oh, the question mark after "Yes, I did" is cute, OTM.
And having the sort of insults leveled at me and others (Grammie seemed to particularly inspire you) is not stale yet in my mind. Despite your sounding like a circus barker as you attempt to play upon the good natures of people who are honest and eons less cynical than you.
No, one goes in for "flirty seduction" like you.
You're a liar.

Actually, at this stage of the internet an IP address means more than ever. Back in dial-up days your WAN IP would change each time you connected. Now, your IP only changes every few weeks/months or if you lose power for an extended period, and even then it will be in the same IP subnet as it previously was.
Just a correction...

Let me be very clear, and I beg Johnny's indulgence to clear the slander you have engaged in, yet again:

OS, your 11:17 is only true if the user is familiar with anonymising proxies. Which, by OTM's apparent ignorance (not stupidity, not an insult) of TCP/IP, is not possible for him.

Since the topic is front and center on this thread let me state unequivocally that Cecelia is absolutely right about OTM.
OTM was Clucker, Kurt Kissel, Mrs Adrian R Philby, Rudy Ramirez, A N O N Y M O U S and others at OW.
Bob Cox said he used multiple IP/ISP (unsure of the precise terminology) for his various aliases.
Bob Cox has deleted about 10,000 comments from him at OW.
He was unspeakably rude, crude and vilely insulting to we three ladies, the only ladies commenting at OW, day in and day out.
He was unspeakably rude, crude and vilely (bestiality anyone?) insulting to OS day in and day out.
He was just as oily unctious self righteous at OW as he is here at J$P while constantly accusing others of being racist, homophobic, xenophobic and sexist just as he is here.
If, as my mama did, live to be a hundred I would not trust On the Clucker as far as I could throw she/he/it.

FF, I am technologically backwards.
What does this generally mean and how would you know if it applied to OTM or not.
Thanks.

Thanks for saying what needed to be said, Grammie. I have said the same thing here, in fewer words and it has been shrugged off and even questioned. Definately not admitted! It may be off topic and irrelevant to some, but, it goes to character.

I have a quick question.
Indeed I do remember the conversation at OW that you participated in after the Vitter scandal, OTM.
I remember your saying that Mrs. Vitter should have worn a suit and slingback pumps instead of her mild cleavage revealing leopard print blouse.
I remember your conversation that Republicans politicians seemed to be attracted to the Party as a reaction against the fact that they are people who are predisposed to sexual kinks.
You did not use OTM at OW. Under what name there did you post?

Every connection point on the internet is assigned a number. It's how the computers find one another. For home user, the cable modem is assigned a public IP address by your ISP
The IP Address is "leased" to your modem for a certain time period. When this time period is up, the modem asks your ISP for a new lease and it usually gets the same address again, although it doesn't have to. it can sometimes get a new IP address.
So because of this, it not always the case that multiple visits to a website from the same IP means that its the same person doing all the visits. It depends on the ISP and their IP assignment behavior.
Also some ISPs take the user's web request and instead of just passing the message onto the internet sometimes the ISP will take your message and it will transmit a new identical message to the internet using the ISP's address as the identifier.. the ISP is sending the message as a proxy for you.
In that case, all traffic from all users in that ISP all show coming from the ISP iteself and its impossible to tell what indidivuals are behind what message. This is how AOL works.
Then there are websites taht you can go to that you can pass it the website you want to go to , and that website will send the message on your behalf as a proxy.. this means the website will send its IP address to the web server and no one will know the message was really from you.
