Nice to get Carlson's and Doocy's informed input on the Edward's matter this morning. The story, breaking as it did on Friday after the two had scoured off their make-up and driven away in their clown cars, deprived them of an opportunity to roll around in the considerable muck Edwards left behind, so it wouldn't be fair to deprive them of this nostalgie de la boue, but hopefully tomorrow they can return to their keen coverage of hard news.

You interest in "hard news" is inspiring Mark, and it's nice to know too that at particular times, you do have your moments of solidarity with the news choices of FNC and other cable outlets.

For example, most of us here remember your lengthy OW ponderings on the attire of Sen Vitter's wife and your long-winded theses on the significance of Sen. Craig's scandalous behavior as regards the Republican heart.

Human nature being what it is, I'm sure it's a mere matter of days until you are again in synch with the import and the significance of some peccadillo playing out in the daily cable news cycle.

However, as you can tell by the vast interest displayed here in offering up similar analysis on Edwards as the aforementioned kind you issued on OW, you might find yourself more compatible with cable news programming than anyone else here.

Edwards is fair game, Cecelia.

The difference between the inexcusably philandering and betraying Edwards (saving ample room for his sanctimony and ego) and the whore-monger Vitter et ux (her trashy attire included) and between Edwards and Craig (wide stance duly noted) is the busy-ness of the news cycle. That sometimes happens. Somehow, the outbreak of a new war in a volatile, strategic part of the world trumps yet another sleazy domestice political sex scandal.

I see another difference between Edwards and Craig, perhaps unique to me or to men of my age. Cheating on one's spouse and children is never, never acceptable. Clinton and Edwards have miserably failed in that regard as much as McCain and Vitter, by way of example, have. Adding the airport men's room business into the equation so disgusts me that I know my reaction to Craig is harsher than it ought to be. In some sense, philandering is philandering whether the object be female, male or porcine.
I cut Edwards no slack. In fact, I judge him more harshly than McCain and Vitter, simply because I held him to a higher standard.

My complaint goes not to the story, but to the coverage it was given at a time when far bigger issues were on our plates.

Forgive me, but I am getting tired of Mark and his long-winded, anti-Fox, anti-this-site comments. I've been nice enough for so long, but I've had it.
And now, I have no idea what to say regarding cable news.

I popped home at 11:00/CDST and was doing a bit of surfing back and forth among local broadcast (a possibility of rain), CNN and FNC. FNC was doing a most admirable job on the Georgian story now. I think the slow start must have been related to the normal weekend let down in talent. It wasn't by accident the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor on a Sunday.

BTW, Mike, sorry to hear that you find my criticisms objectionable. With the exception of Doocy and Hannity, I try to be constructive, but I no doubt fail from time-to-time. No apology for the length, however. I have never been the gossipy hit-and-run sort.

It is interesting that Mark is not willing to give McCain any kind of pass because (1) his indiscretions happened a long time ago (he's been faithful since) (2) he had undergone extreme psychological and emotional stress (as well as prolonged separation from his wife) in Hanoi Hilton.

The fact that Edwards cheated on his wife at a time when she is dying and really needed him also does not enter into Mark's calculus.

Great article about Isaac Hayes, some info there I had never heard before.

Sorry to go off topic, but I have to mention one of Haye's greatest performances - as Gandalf "Gandy" Fitch in a few eps of The Rockford Files. I still chuckle to myself thinking of him referring to Rockford as "Rockfish".

I caught a bit of Cavuto's business programme on Saturday.
Cavuto & some guests were trying to say:
That the hospitals involved in ripping off the US taxpayer...By taking in homeless folk and billing the Government for non existent care...A crime....This somehow showed that some short of national healthcare system wouldn't work and healthcare better stay in private hands....I'm glad to report that at least a couple of the panellists disagreed with this nonsense.
I'm waiting for Cavuto/guests to call for the disbandment of the US army forthwith...Fraud also happens there....Also libraries better go while we're about it.
Another segment used to have a cheap shot at Obama.

Many liberal's have grown tired of his act and I suspect executives at NBC and MESSNBC would not be all that upset to rid the network of Edward R. OlberMurrow.
