You need to laugh more.
The only "Playboy" I ever bought was back in the Contra war days, when they were the only outlet that interviewed Daniel Ortega. So I guess it's possible that some people DO buy "Playboy" regularly for the articles.
So'cute and athletic' Jenna, with the 'very porn starrish name,is 'one of the first images...viewers see when they get out of bed.''When she's not being ridiculed by her co-anchors for being so hot, Jenna is leading the Fox Business network'.
Now I'm not disparaging the young woman or her work.but honestly, was she hired for her qualifications,or her looks. And is this really what people are looking for in 'business news'?
If Fox Business were hiring based solely on qualifications, statistically speaking they would have some ugly people on staff, since there are more ugly than attractive people. And if they were interested in being an equal opportunity offender,I think they could have come up with better eye candy for the ladies than Neil Cavuto.
So let's just be honest. What is Fox trying to sell.Let's just drop the facade of 'buying it for the articles'.
Now go ahead and disparage my manhood.

ANYWAY...
What's the deal with Jossip and FOX? I know they're all about gossip, and thusly pretty cynical and sarcastic... but when it comes to FOX, they seem to have an extra vendetta. They're always very negative, and present their stories to be even a little extra negative if they can (note the O'Reilly picture used in that story). What's the deal?

I can't imagine what the unfortunately named poster's whine de l'apres midi is, but I am sure it is nothing worth trying to understand anyway, so I'll just move to "big news in cable news" today:
1. The wonderful job Chuck Todd is doing with his analysis of the DNC hearings and of the primary process. He is moving beyond an MSNBC/NBC treasure to a national treasure. He is, beyond question, the fairest and finest political analyst at work in the media today. Many, many thanks and heart cingratulations, Chuck!
2. O'Reilly's McClellan scoop, well after the ice cream had run from the scoop and melted into a tepid, sticky, caking pool. I'm sure we all eagerly await the breaking news that will emerge from this likely mad tirade. To paraphrase, a mind is a terrible thing to lose, and to watch the degeneration play out on national television is poignant. I hope FNC will give us O'Reilly's address after the men with the nets haul him off in the nice white van. I make a knock-out chocolate-white chocolate chip pecan cookie I'd like to send.

Re: "HD Developments": At this point, I'd rather watch FNC in SD than CNN in HD. And with Cablevision in no rush to add any other channels while continuing to snark through their "we're better than the competition" ads, FNC in SD is my only option. The closest I'll get to FNC in HD is "Fox News Sunday" in Widescreen Digital on Fox.

I am not going to disagree with you, Mike, that the Washington Post and other print, broadcast and cable media outlets have a negative view of FNC, that they tend to view it as less-than-news.
Some people, mostly twits, argue that this is because of some jealousy of FNC's relative success (albeit in a small niche of the over-all media). Dismissed!
Others see this as political/pholosophical prejudice. Some bright, articulate people argue this position. I don't really buy into it, but I don't discard it, either.
I tend to think there is a prejudice against what the more traditional media see as "presentation". That is an awfully vague term, I know. I think it is a mix of anchor/reporter style and visuals. For example, I think Hume and Garrett could be accepted in any news organization, but a Cameron (highly compromised) and a Smith (garish)would not and are not. Hannity and O'Reilly are viewed, justifiably, as shamelessly pandering crackpots, and the entire F&F "thing" is absurd, ridiculous. In saying that, I am talking about mainstream media characterizations, not necessarily my own, although I do tend to concur.
Then, there are presentations issues. I think FNC sets and graphics are tastleless and tacky. The sets turn the news, however legitimate, into an American Idol type show. That is taste. People differ. No one is right. No one is wrong. But, I think this emphasizes that FNC is targeting its appeal to a largely unnewsed set. A Clintonesque turn to the common man and woman who find real news and traditional presentations boring, and would sooner watch Law & Order reruns.
Parenthetically, I don't think we can overlook the boobs and thighs flashed all about FNC. Murdock pioneered B+T news in the UK, and it appealed to the hooligan sect there enough to sell newspapers. It apparently works here as well, although it is a lowly regarded technique.
In saying that, I recognize that there are educated, newsed people who are drawn to FNC for a variety of legitimate reasons and who are inappropriately looked down upon by a rather smug and traditional media.
I also have to recognize that in bringing in at least some of the teeming throng, FNC is serving a greater good.
Lastly, I would say that FNC does some legitimate, sound broadcasting which is too often thrown in the enormous trash bin of FNC programming. A couple such shows are Hume/Wallace and the Beltway Boys. These establish that FNC can follow a more legitimate, traditional road. It has just chosen not to do so.
I don't really have any firm answers, but I do think this presentation issue is probably far more legitimate than the political/philosophical one.

Apparently Barry himself came and commented on the Wendy Murphy piece.
I responded...
"Good to see you're still up to something, Barry!
After going from national celebrity, to local access news, one might have cause to think they're unsuccessful, untalented, or unfit to comment on anyone else's career. But you've pushed through that! You've ignored what can most accurately be called a failure of a career, and insisted that you be listened to. And while that was something of a failure too (nobody listened, and you accomplished nothing), you can hold your head high... as you look through the "help wanted" pages.
It's good to see you commenting here, clearly still thinking very highly of yourself. I hope you can continue to dodge reality, talk down to people who have received considerably more success than you, and live the great life you imagine you have.
Only one question, Barry... your protest failed, you've gained no popularity, you've lost your job, you've significantly hurt the future of your career, and youve been reduced to trying to defend yourself by commenting on a public blog (just like the rest of us a far way to fall for someone who used to be considered a celebrity). A failure on all possible levels. So was it worth it?"

It was a big political story Friday night on every news channel--except of course on OlbyPlanet. Keithy carefully avoided any mention of the Pfleger controversy, though he managed to bring up Hagee [Ding!], a story that he flogged for days. And of course Dan Abrams attacked Fox for reporting the Pfleger story, conveniently overlooking the point that it wasn't Fox but ABC News that broke the story (just as they did with Rev Wright). But attacking Fox is more important than getting the facts right.
Now in the wake of the Pfleger flap it has just been reported that Obama is quitting the Trinity United Church, effective immediately. Imagine that. It was so unimportant that Edward R Olbermann spiked it completely. It was so irrelevant that Dan Abrams had to smear Fox for reporting it. Only it turns out to have been so important that a Presidential candidate left his church of twenty years as a result of it.
Just another demonstration of how the infamous, deplorable Keith Olbermann slants, manages, filters, and spins the news so that you only hear what he wants you to hear, even if it means leaving out one of the most important political stories of the campaign.

Let's see, a visiting preacher makes remarks controversial to some (and, indeed, to me), and that is newsworthy? OK. It might be tangentially relevant. Akin to the man who screams at me (and everyone else) on 32nd and 8th, saying he's going to clobber me with a bat and put me in St. Vincent's. I suppose relevance must be akin to a question of taste. Some people have none, and others disagree. Maybe, MSNBC didn't think it was an earth-shattering development. MAybe, MSNBC thought it was of some passing importance but negated by the resignation. Maybe, FNC thought a great way to feed Hannity. Poetic license. Editorial discretion. Whatever. I'm not criticizing FNC for not airing the DNCRC meeting, and I won't criticize MSNBC for not waiving a bloody flag about.

OTM your magnanimous approach is fine as far as it goes, but Sen Obama himself called a live press conference that went on for nearly an hour. HE thought it was newsworthy. All those reporters did too. And yet MSNBC somehow found that it wasn't. As you say, it could be just editorial judgment, but that ducks the question of whether there is a larger pattern to be seen.

With apologies to Vince and Mr. Sucks for turning the discussion back to cable news, I just stopped on O'Hannity for a bit. One would have thought it was as infomercial run by the Republican party in some semi-literate backwater state. Unmitigated, continuous, uninterrupted (except for a couple of doses of O'Hannity's gratuitous sanctimony) Barack bashing. You know what? No objection from me. FNC has a right to broadcast this, but please, a bit of intellectual honesty here. This is not the high road. This is not journalism. This is not even commentary. It is simple, ugly pandering which no doubt draws a huge audience.
I will add, however, O'Hannity is FNC at its lowest, so I won't judge the entire network by this show or by him. That would be akin to judging Fritos by the burnt, dark, rancid one that escaped the scoop after its first frying and sailed right past QC and into the bag.

As OTM conceded a point to me, I shall concede one to him, at least in part. I don't especially care for Hannity's America. When the show began, it was supposed to feature Hannity debating with people of opposing viewpoints. That aspect seems to have been watered down and now most of the show is Hannity pontificating or taped pieces that generally support his viewpoint.
Just as I don't think Countdown is good journalism, I don't think Hannity's America cuts it in that regard either. It's really the FNC version of Countdown--except that it's a little less one-sided, not as cleverly written, and there's just one show each weekend instead of five shows during weeknight prime time.
It gets viewers so I suppose it will be around for a while. But I think they'd be better off getting back to the original concept of debating points of view--a description that still shows up in our cable system's electronic program guide.
Wow. I hope this doesn't make me the Fox viewer version of Scott McClellan!

Hannity's hour was prerecorded a day or two earlier. Yeah he was critical of Obama but it had nothing to do with the press conference.

Why don't you just call each other up instead of wasting so much time putting together this "site". - Brutal Truth
If we called each other up, there would be no history to prove/disprove that people like Brutal Truth posited such vacuous and hateful thoughts. Plus, we wouldn't be graced with his valuable input.
