Fox Haters Week in Review
People disappearing into thin air? Attacks on a charity that supports rape victims? We have all that and more in a special edition of Fox Haters Week in Review.
Without a Trace
A blog from The Guardian caught our eye. Writer Daniel Nasaw was outraged that Sean Hannity "sought the opinion" of Lou Holtz on the visit of Gordon Brown to the USA, and sneeringly asked:
Are you disappointed that one of three major US cable television news networks...had no one stronger than a septuagenarian football manager to talk about Gordon Brown?Well they did. Hannity wasn't talking only to Lou Holtz. The coach was part of a panel that also included Nancy Pfotenhauer (who worked for John McCain) and Doug Schoen (advisor to Bill Clinton and Huffington Post blogger). But revealing that would kind of ruin the attack, eh Mr Nasaw? So they were made to vanish.
This same segment was the inspiration for a rant by Keith Olbermann, lifted from Media Matters. Intoned Sir Olby:
Hannity‘s topic with Holtz and with one of John McCain‘s campaign spokespeople: global warming. What happened to Doug Schoen? Did he just become an invisible man? Olby went on to quote Holtz's words, tastelessly mocking the coach's speaking voice. Olbermann condemning a sports guy for speaking about something other than sports? Think about it.
The Loony Bin
We can always rely on the genuises at O'Reilly Sucks for Fox hater lunacy at its finest. One of their most endearing qualities is how they invent stuff out of thin air...just because they can! So when Frank Luntz shows up on Tuesday's Factor, he is blithely dismissed because he "rigs his focus groups to favor Republicans". Members of his focus groups don't seem to think so, and they repeatedly favored Barack Obama over McCain, but why spoil a good smear with facts? On the same program Lis Wiehl was a guest and, true to form, the sucksters instantly labeled her a "Republican legal expert". Never mind that she is a recognized feminist author, and according to FEC records has contributed only to Democratic candidates. Or that she was chief deputy council for the Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee defending Bill Clinton from impeachment charges. To the Einsteins at oreillysucks, she's still a "Republican legal analyst"!
But it's not all just clueless drivel. They can also serve up a good lie when required. Dennis Miller was on The Factor Wednesday to discuss the President's decision to permit photographing flag draped coffins when the family gives permission. The sucksters descended on Dennis, howling that "he cried" about this new policy, saying that Miller "had a problem with that, when I think it's a good policy". But they're not telling the truth. Miller didn't have a problem with Obama's decision. He supported it, stating that the family should have the say, and that he "admired" Obama's decision. See for yourself. Now why tell a lie that is so easily disproven? Who knows? After all, it's not their first time.
Collateral Damage
The newshounds seem to have adopted a new slogan: we parrot Keith Olbermann's attacks so you don't have to. As Olby vilified Bill O'Reilly four nights in a row (for pro bono speaking at an Alexa Foundation fundraiser), the mongrels dutifully put up four articles--one for each Olbermann tirade. And when it became apparent the foundation was not going to cave to pressure, the anti-Fox terriers took aim at the Alexa Foundation itself:
It may be a case of "who you know". Sitting on the advisory board of the Foundation is one Wendy Murphy, who has frequently appeared on the Factor and appears to be somewhat of a buddy of O'Reilly's (O'Reilly wrote the foreword to Murphy's book And Justice for Some, and snide comments have been made about her "sleeping on a cot in his office"). Murphy is O'Reilly's partner-in-crime when it comes to blaming those eeevul liberals for the ills of the world...Smearing a member of Alexa's board. Nice. Oh, and the liberal-hating Wendy Murphy supported Joe Biden. A smear based on a falsehood. Classy, very classy.
Kennel commenters also joined in the offensive against Alexa. It got so bad that the hounds had to do an about-face and issue a bold-faced admonishment that they didn't want commenters to go after the foundation. But the damage had already been done. Unable to stop O'Reilly, some denizens of the dog pound instead turned their guns on a charity that supports rape victims. And newshound moderators approved each salvo:
- Maybe this is a Republican foundation, run by Republicans, for Republicans, and we all know their sad views on life.
- Connections, connections: a lady who's had the dubious honour of appearing on O'Reilly's show is on the board of that foundation.... He might even have "paid" the organization to enhance his image and bonafides.
- Go after the director and board of the foundation.
- This is a raw move for money.... Bad foundation. No donation.
- Alexa is as much to blame if not more until they do what is right.
- I have to conclude that the people operating the "foundation" are more concerned with glorifying a rightwinger than aiding rape victims.... It makes me wonder what the purpose of the foundation really is - screw their "mission statement" - and who in the foundation is getting rich. Follow the money.
- Any organization like Alexa that would have O'Reilly as a speaker needs to have its raison d'etre put under the cold light of analysis.... Someone is not doing his/her homework and that gives me cause for concern about the persons in their care.
- Perhaps someone might want to look into this groups finances and find out how much of it actually goes to help rape victims, since they think it's fine to have an admitted "stalker" give a speech at one of their events, eh? Just a "front group" perhaps, eh?
- They're in it for the money, not to help victims.

The Mutts have outdone themselves with the vicious attacks on the foundation.
These people are the lowest form of scum and their so called "lady" leaders should be ashamed of themselves.
Let's not leave out the junior high school posters over there either. They take their lead from Mommy Ellen.

Folks, please don't forget to send an e-mail of support to the Foundation. I sent them one a few days ago. With all the noise she is getting from the yap-yap-yap-drool crowd at Newspoodles, Wendy sure could use some moral support from the normal folks.

Olbermann complaining (incorrectly) about one-sided or imbalanced interviews?
Good grief, the man is shameless.

You and your gang of ass-kissers are a pack of lying, spinning douchebags, Koldys. You know damn well that it isn't an attack on the foundation yet you persist in lying through your teeth about it becuase trying to make Newshounds look bad is more important to you than the truth. I am not sending this for your audience of minus-IQ stooges because I know I am banned. This message is for YOU . I used to think you had at least some shred credibility, but not any more. Pig.

Olby Sucks
I watched the video Olbermann never said a word about Media Matters.
Are you going to ask Dollar to retract that statement? Or are you one that thinks your Lord Dollar knows all and see's all?
Or do you want to just show what a hypocrite you are by telling everyone on here to be accurate, while letting all the sheep at Dollar's site to tell all the lies they want?

Let's see:
The foundation has an opportunity to raise a ton of money with the help of Bill O'Reilly who is volunteering his time.
The hounds are trying to stop the foundation from getting those funds.
It sure as hell is an attack on the foundation.
Even an ass kissing, low IQ, lying spinning douchebag like me can see that.

Heck, I usually don't see Pegleg worked up this badly. I wonder if somebody will claim that previous rant was actually posted by a cointellpro right-winger posing as Pegleg. That's standard operating procedure whenever lefties' hate-spewing comments get exposed.

Excuse me, Pegleg, but I believe you are mistaken in this overheated trash mouth tirade:
"You know damn well that it isn't an attack on the foundation yet you persist in lying through your teeth about it becuase trying to make Newshounds look bad is more important to you than the truth."
Your mangy mutts were the first ones that I have found to jump on this subject on 02/28/09 in:
Bill OReilly To Speak At Fund Raising Event For Rape Victims? Oh, No He Shouldnt!, reported by Priscilla,
Your first comment in the thread was directed straight at the foundation here:
"You might want to include this information in your email, fax or phone call to the Alexa Foundation:
This is the same man who suggested that Shawn Hornbeck stayed with his abuser because Hornbeck was having fun:
http://www.newshounds.us/2007/ 01...or_the_kids.php
Then of course there was O'Reilly's sexual harassment of his former producer, Andrea Mackris, to whom multi-millions were paid to shut up:

Your second comment also:
"Perhaps other media should be contacted. Huffpo might find this interesting. Or other rape-victim advocacy groups?
Pegleg Peggy | 02.28.09 - 5:14 pm | # "
Your third is also about the foundation:
"Here is the reply I received from the
It Happened to Alexa Foundation:
"Bill is speaking about his new book not about rape victims. He has been very supportive to our organization and our victims, some of which have been on his show.
Thank you for your opinion - Ellen Augello"
Hmm.

That has been the thrust of all the posts and many of your moderated comments as Johnny has documented. If you had no intention of dragging IHTAF in it I would think your moderators would deep six those and explain why.
Your words and actions in the safety of that kennel says it all for you. Your gracious and charming lie here was too little too late.

I saw BOR that night. Miller not only liked and approved the decision he was thrilled that the policy had been changed by Obama. I got the impression that BOR may have been surprised at his reaction.
How pitiful can you be? They hate BOR b/c of the things that they make up about BOR.
I wonder how someone who behaves like they do when in public what do they do behind closed doors. Scary!

I saw commenters at the News Hounds site that have attacked the It Happened to Alexa Foundation, but didn't see any official blogs at the site that have.
It is arguable that there is a certain "attack" quality in continuing on with a petition to pressure the Alexa Foundation to jettison O'Reilly, when they have flatly stated that they will not.
The general purpose for such a thing is an implied threat of a loss of support for the foundation.
Who are you really hurting here is the question you were asked by the director of the foundation, Peggy.
THAT's the result that you need to weigh. Such battles should be chosen carefully and without egocentricity. Do O'Reilly's comment truly merit such a consequence to the foundation? Merit your continuing on with the petition?
You are behind any and all negative results of your decision and there are some. The foundation has already ruled out what you consider to be a positive consequence from the petition.
You own this.

Mr. O'Reilly is a man of notoriety. When you have such a person speak, basically endorse your product, you inherit all of his package. The Alexa board knew that going in, and they are responsible for the fall-out. Perhaps, there is a new plus somewhere for Alexa. I hope there is.

There's a huge assumption in that statement, Glenn.
You assume that it is a common understanding that Mr. O'Reilly has the sort of notoriety that would reasonably make his public support of charitable group unacceptable to a large group of people.
In actuality, that's not the case, O'Reilly is notorious to a comparatively small group of people who happen to have been called to arms by his prime time competition on a rival cable channel.
Through this gesture, this group hopes to move what has been an internet meme into the larger public. Unfortunately, as with that sort publicity, people who might have supported the Foundation will choose not to do that.
Olbermann and his merry band of O'Reilly haters have stirred the pot. Don't blame O'Reilly that it stinks.

As Olbermann is notorious to only a merry band of MSNBC haters. How many in either case is impossible to tell. Unless someone has numbers on how many people hate one of the cable news talking heads?

Not enough people to afford the mere assumption that O'Reilly is so notorious that the It Happened To Alexa Foundation ignored potential controversy in choosing him, which was Glenn Stimpson's point.
Not enough to assume that people involved in helping rape victims knew.
That is an assumption tantamount to my arguing that Keith Olbermann is notorious for bashing and beating an Anne Coulter doll over his desk.

That is difficult to say with any degree of certainty without some kind of metric..
However, O'Reilly has said some inflammatory things regarding victims of sexual crime in his career. Just because many of things may not be known to the larger public, doesn't mean those involved in women's issues wouldnt be upset if made aware; nor does it mean that those who are aware of them (and happen to find them insulting) won't protest the choice and try to make others aware, of some of the more controversial things O'Reilly has said.
In fact, any famous candidate who says something, some would interpret as insensitive regarding victims rights would run into this.
I think Glenn is correct that the alexa foundation, should have realized O'Reilly would generate controversy

I am confused as to why we are all of the sudden discussing Olbermann. Are we assuming that without Olbermann the insensitivity O'Reilly has regarding sexual attack victims would be unknown? That's not how I came to know about it. Both of the episodes to which I referred were widely printed in various publications.
If the question were should Alexa and other such groups know of the episodes, I would say, of course. To not know would be irresponsible.
If the question were should O'Reilly be forgiven, I would also say, of course. I don't know if he has ever asked for forgiveness. I think he simply tried to explain away. Still, I see no value in holding onto this.
If the question were should Alexa be held accountable for this, I would say no. Alexa does much good and a lapse of this sort ought not cripple it. I would hope Alexa could wrangle an apology.

In the above, you are attempting to refute an argument, I never made.
Why should the Alexa Foundation have been aware of O'Reilly's comments anymore than they should be aware that many internet sites and their followers were upset at what they deemed to be misogynistic statements from Chris Matthews towards HRC during the campaign? Or that they should be aware that liberal women have been upset at Keith Olbermann's past remarks about particular females.
These are largely internet memes and fodder. That you may have seen some mention of them in what was likely news paper or news magazine internet sites is just more of the same.
That isn't an argument that all of these remarks were wholly benign, it's one that refutes the egocentric assumption that they were of such controversy that people involved in the area of rape crisis, SHOULD HAVE KNOWN the remarks were made (let alone have known that some people would try to undermine their fund raiser because of them).
No, it's entirely plausible that the Alexa Foundation had no knowledge of the sort of daily bomb throwing and finger pointing that happens on the highly politicized internet and that it's likely too that they would not have thought the statements that have caused similar sorts of criticisms against Mr. O'Reilly, Mr. Matthews, or Mr. Olbermann precluded these public men from doing what good works that they will (borne out in the Alexa Foundation's currently unyielding stance on O'Reilly).
You have to make quite a few assumptions to even preface THAT assumption. It's rather like believing that the entire world wakes up, reads the Wall Street Journal and then calls their broker, you have to filter the entire planet through your personal little cloud.
Again, this pot was originally stirred and continues to be stirred by people other than the Foundation. You can't logically blame them that it stinks and you can't support continued public denunciation of their fund raiser AND insist that you only wish for their continued monetary support.
