So did Obamann choke back the tears as he apologized for the cynical attempt by his employers to milk the 9/11 tragedy for ratings by showing the attack over and over and over all day?

What an amusing article about the relationship between the Huffington Post and Olbermann. There seems to be this prevailing belief among those who frequent this site that there is one moderate, progressive, liberal mindset and that it is impossible to be moderate, progressive, liberal and not adore Olbermann and the Huffington Post and the Daily Kos. There could be no clearer evidence of the power of self-projection than this demonstrably false conclusion.

What on earth is going on? Lou Dobbs sounds intelligent in that article. Aside from his take-no-prisoners stance on illegals I've always disregarded him as just another BDS sufferer.

That there is a monolothic liberal machine that moves in lockstep, especially in the media, is an idea that FoxNews has encouraged in their reports as a way to separate themselves out. For them, it's worked. Truth is, there is no united liberal front any more than there is a mindless conservative machine where everybody is idealogically pure and agrees with each other and personality differences never happen. Sorry for the mispellings, but I'm in a rush out the door.

The HuffPo during the current campaign cycle has always been more of a home to the Hillary Clinton supporters than the Daily Kos. Once Keith turned his Bush/McCain/Republican bashing and slander tactics towards Hillary he permanently alienated that group, since they now saw Olby in the same way the right has seen him for the past decade.
As for the ratings showing Maddow beating "Countdown", if that keeps up, you know it's going to drive Keith crazy. Expect by Eletion Day to see Olby stop throwing his show over to Rachel and to go back to the same tactic he took with Abrams if Maddow becomes MSNBC's new ratings star.

Why are we being so harsh on Geraldo? (I think I know why, but I'd drag us off topic into politics. So, I won't answer.) I like his natural disaster reportage.

I just saw something incredible watching FNC. They were showing live feed of a group of young adults partying in a bar on the beach at Galveston. Just having a grand old time, they weren't leaving and seemed to be planning to leave at the last minute. Jarrett told them they needed to leave, they were "facing certain death". They didn't seem to care.
Wow.

Good piece on the five myths about Olbermann.
I don't agree that that Olbermann's forced consignment into punditry will make him stronger in the end. I think Spud from ICN had it right that ultimately it's marginalized to the point that he's where he's considered to polarized to be credible.
A glaring example of that has been the reaction to his special komment segment of late-- little to none...

Really? It didn't do bad in the ratings; in fact, Olby had over a million viewers during the *repeat*. That's unheard of. But I do think it was a ridiculous, over the top commentary, and I don't think most people reacted to the Republican 9-11 tribute like he did.

The main MYTH regarding Edward R and MESSNBC - the notion that "Air America" cable news hosted by the likes of CM, KO and RM will ever be mainstreamed by the viewing public in this country.
It was a miserable failure on radio and it will, in the end, fail on cable news as well. They do not connect with the vast audience across this country, they end up chattering to other elites who share their warped world view.
The election results in November will be a sober reminder as to how out of touch they are.
I hope they continue with the biased spin, they are making fools out of themselves.

John, I was talking about analysis of it in the media. I have Olbermann stuff on google alert and his comments didn't generate the usual amount of stuff there.
I must say I am impressed by the million number of viewers. That certainly has to count for something.

I love O'Reilly, but here he was, talking about his interview with Obama, which has really been dwarfed by the Charlie Gibson attempt at trashing Sarah Palin.
Yes, O'Reilly did great with Obama, and I know Bill covered the Palin thing a little at the beginning of the show, but he really could have gone on all hour about it. I am still in shock that that condescending windbag, who tried to trap Sarah, got away with this! And to those who haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out Charles Krauthammer's explanation of the "Bush Doctrine", a term he claims to have coined himself. Turned out that Gibson is the one who got it wrong!

I'm killing hours and hours at ATL after a problem getting out of Texas, and I want to thank you for this comment, Cecelia. I almost choked on the olive in my martini, and everyone around me was asking why I was laughing so loud. Being the gentleman I am, however, I changed "Olbermann" to "Fernando Lamas" and all of the mature women seemed to understand.

Does Geraldo have a stunt double take a dive during each hurricane, or is he given combat pay?
Many kudos to Shep for limiting repeat coverage, although I suspect Shep's motives may have been multi-fold. He did a good anchor job. Perhaps, almost great. Truly. But, I am confused about the production call. Is FNC copying the Olbermann anchor move?
-
Well, I am going to set Google Alert to Pauline Frederick and have another martini sans olive. My throat is still a little sore.

Ashley, I suspect you have never lived in an hurricane prone area for that to surprise you.
Huricane Parties are always popular with the young and foolish who have never lived through a bad one or any b/c they immigrated to the area.
Hurricane Betsy was a strong cat 3 storm that devastated New Orleans and south LA in 1965. I was in my twenties and still living at home. My boyfriend at the time hosted a Hurricane Party that I was forced to miss by my parents unless I wanted to move out permanently then and there.
Although no one at the party was hurt worse than scrapes, bruises and stitches from the storm I learned my personal lesson on their very bad experience.
The windows and doors were blown out and the roof came off. They all spent hours huddled in the kitchen and bathroom b/c those rooms did offer some protection.
Four years later 30+ young people died in an apartment complex where they stayed to have a Hurricane Party when Camille struck the Gulf Coast. For some poor souls that is the last lesson they ever learn.

Rich, Yeager-Buckley.
Tuchman has to grap ahold of another reporter last night at one point, and I thought they were both going to blow away.
I think if cable news sorts covered the election with the same interest and intensity they do hurricanes, we just might know something about the people we are voting for.

If we could only keep the same energy that comes from the youthful sense of immortality and temper it with a mature respect for consequence, it would be a wonderful advance for human beings, yet another step up the evolutionary ladder.
In the spirit of Grammie's story, I went surfing hours before Alicia hit the Texas coast. When the interval shortened to a point you couldn't ride anymore, I went (barely) ashore and partied all night. I'm glad I wouldn't do that again, but I wish I wanted to.

My wonderment is the obsession with a media personality of little talent, skill or knowledge. This would be roughly equivalent to me getting alerts on Doocy. I can assure you, I do not. I suppose if it is done in fun, that is one matter. If it's done out of some obsessive-compulsive need, that might be another matter. Yet, I may understand even that on some obscure level. Modigliani's "Maude Abrantes," a mariginally consequential painting by a complex, oftne unappreciated artist does that for me. I receive e-mail alerts. Actually, I am suppose to receive the alerts. It is seldom discussed. So, are you saying Olbermann is an artist to be more appreciated in another era?

Holy Background Check, Batman!
Mark relies on cable news to teach him about the people he votes for!!!!
Yes, my young, enthusiastic Feathered Friend. That has always been the way of the Loons. It's the same thing as blaming the government for not providing everything to those who are able but unwilling to provide for themselves, giving credibility to irresponsibility.
