The "boycott" was stupid. It served only to make the democratic candidates look like weak puppets, nothing more. Led by John Edwards and MoveOn, both were losers in the campaign; one for presidential delegate and the other for suppression of alternative opinion.

Seems to me that there was too much talk about the politics of the boycott and who benefitted more by the ending of it and not enough about the media effects or role in it.
E.g., How responsible was it for journalists to openly support the boycott? Is that a proper role? Is it really acceptable for journalists to encourage elected officials not to appear on networks because they - the reporters - think the network is too critical? How does that fit with the role of the press as watchdogs over the government?

Steve you are correct. There are people at MSNBC who are complaining that Democrats are actually going on Fox! And yet they have no problem asking Republicans to appear on MSNBC. Double standard much?

" There are people at MSNBC who are complaining that Democrats are actually going on Fox!"
I wish the show had gone a bit more into this aspect of the controversy.
I can't recall ever hearing journalists - journalists!! - support a boycott of an entire news organization by public officials - and presidential candidates at that - because that network is, according to these journalists, too tough on the officials or on their party.
We actually have journalists defending - indeed, supporting - public officials' cutting off news organizations? So much for a watchdog press.
Usually, journalists rally around any news organization that is attacked by public officials as being too tough.
Presumably, these folks would support President Obama or President Clinton refusing to appear on FNC as well?
Amazing.

SteveMc,
This is an EXCELLENT point!
What an indictment of the industry that not only did these "professionals" go along with pols playing politics with a group of their colleagues, they actively saw competitive profit in it!
