The only purpose of the Gawker article is to disseminate a tawdry innuendo. I have some problems with "Morning Joe", not because it is a poor show or a slanted show, but because Scarborough and Brzezinski are simply underperforming. They could do much better. One of my points of discomfort is the flirty banter that occurs. It is decidedly unprofessional. However, that hardly suggests, much less establishes an affair. We have flirty banterers here as well. Annoying as hell, but I hardly think Johnny and the Coquette du Moment are secreting themselves away at the Travelodge off Exit 14.

And now, for something completely different.
We've all seen the criticism of Fox News' use of stars and stripes, red, white and blue graphics and the waving American flag animation as examples of over-the-top, hypocrytical, cynical faux patriotism pandering to its ultra-guber nationalistic audience.
Last week, my 16 year-old son pointed out that the waving American flag in MSNBC's "The Place For Politics" animation located bottom-right IS UPSIDE DOWN!!!

I expect Dobbs to self-combust any day now. In fact, I may test my theory soon. As is common in this part of Texas, we have a couple of Hispanic families in our neighborhood. Fairly recent immigrants, beating the Mayflower to New England by less than 200 years, or so. I'm thinking about showing up at one of Dobb's horse shows with some of these friends and a straight jacket. I suspect the straight jacket will be put to good use.

I took the photo out of the link and put it right on the page. The flag is circled. It's part of MSNBC's 'place for politics' logo, and it is clearly upside down!

Thanks Johnny. I can almost hear the same outrage from the Newshounds on this, just as if it were FNC that made the error.

But was it an error? Anyone doing an animated graphic of a flag waving (which it does on msnbc) doesn't make it upside down...unless they are told to do so. Or if they made it right to start, then somebody had to flip it upside down. I actually think this was a deliberate decision, to fly an upside-down flag. The only question is why.
On the other hand, it's Friday, Olympics are starting up, and there isn't much cable news news breaking. So a little controversy like the upside-down flag can be fun as long as it's not taken too seriously.

Ashley,
I am guessing that Dennis Miller is Libertarian (not saying he is a member of the Libertarian party, but that I am guessing that he is Libertarian in his political philosophy).
It's just a somewhat educated guess, but I could easily be wrong.

I am certain it was not an error. It was being artistic. The flag is not upside down, it is floating in a free-form arc, which is a common enough graphic technique, one which I use in some of my video graphics.
If we are being jocular and having fun with this, great. It can be very amusing.
If we are serious and making a political point, ugh!
Proper flaq etiquette has always been that when a flag image is used for decorative purposes, bunting ought to be used instead. I see the flag used all the time for decorative purposes. I don't like that. The flag assaulting your field of vision, whether it is this MSNBC graphic or on O'Reilly or Cobert is offensive to me. If you undertake to use the flag for commercial purposes, you damn well ought to follow the proper etiquette.
I find this amusing, however. Remember when NBC developed its block N graphic only to find out that it was the logo for Nebraska public television. And, was it CBS or NBC that used a globe-like map and had to world spinning in the wrong direction, making it earlier in Deutschland than in Denver? Pretty good laughs, one and all.

Didn't think of that, but you are probably correct.
I love Miller, but I had to struggle with watching him back in the mid 90s when he want on a rant against the right during a monologe (not sure what the show was), but he used the Alf Ranken Book about Rush Limbaugh to boast about how Al really superbly tore Rush a new one.

NNDB lists Miller as a white, straight, born again Republican.
Miller was also a consultant for Schwarzenegger. That raised hackles when he was hired at CNBC, but Miller and CNBC resolved the matter by concluding that although he was partisan, his show would not be.
CNBC was also concerned with an Ailes-Miller tie, but I was never sure what the concern was.
Republicans in California tried to get Miller to run against Boxer. He refused.
The evidence is pretty clear Miller is a Republican, but, and by your libertarian sense, Danny, I think it is also safe to say that Miller is far, far from a social conservative Republican.
For me, personally, it makes no difference. I view Miller as a comedian. I just don't find him funny.

I didn't say that when MSNBC did it either. Or CNN for that matter. Each was a mistake, corrected and apologized for shortly afterwards. Same standard applied to each.
On the other hand, the upside-down flag wasn't a one-time mistake that was corrected. It's been upside-down for months! I'm just curious as to why it's upside-down.

Is there some reason you want to keep your country secret? There's no rule here saying you have to disclose, so don't get the idea that you have to. It would just help put your comments in perspective.

I don't believe that "rumor" about Mika and Joe for one second. The Morning Joe staffers that Gawker speaks of must be trying to drum up some sort of audience.
I curious too, about Gawker came to think of Joe as a "liberal darling". He's gone suitably malleable in order to have a career... but no one but Kenneth Hagin, perhaps, would refer to him as a "liberal darling".
I like both Joe and Mika, although Mika is going over board a bit in her role as the voice of reason in the boy's club house. She's gotten to be a scold.
The piece on Olbermann was dead on the money. Olbermann's brain has gotten progressively closed to the point that it's now as tight and unmovable as Nancy Pelosi's forehead.

Since you answered me I will do the same. I want to know because none of your multiple IP addresses resolve to Ireland. They resolve to places like Kalmar and India.
So that raises a question. If you have no problem telling people where in the world you are coming from, then why are you using faked IP addresses? We frown on that practice here, and in fact the use of proxies or anonymizers brings with it a presumption of malicious intent. If there is no ban in place keeping you from posting, then why all the subterfuge?
That's why I wanted to know.

Further to your point, Cecelia, I like both Joe and Mika, as well, as I am sure I have noted. I have no reason to believe that Joe is anything but honest. And, I believe his show persona probably reflects him. I take some of what he has said about his Congressional and campaign experience to mean that he espoused and took positions which he knew reflected his constituents' views (and would get him elected), which in northern Florida is pretty far right. No criticism there. So, if the real Joe is what we see each morning, I'm comfortable with that. His political and social views are complex and eclectic. I think that pretty much describes all thinking people. I have Republican friends who believe the traditional and family values planks are a boatload of crap and hope they don't resurface. As a Democrat, I don't want to cede our platform enitrely to organized labor. Although I am sure you lean to the right, you strike me as someone who doesn't take all the far rightie crap as Gospel. If I haven't already been cut off for getting too political, the points I am making are: I think Joe reflects not necessarily the positions but the mindset of many, many Americans, and I think his mindset, but perhaps not is style (which I admittedly like) are more reflective of a fair and balanced view than much of what we get from others on all the cable networks.

PS, thank you for your response. You are perfectly free to post here; we have no security leaks, and private information is never revealed without express consent. But we do ask that you post from a real IP, not a series of proxies.
There are multiple reasons why proxies are a bad idea, at least from the viewpoint of someone who has to moderate comments. I can't stop you from posting with proxies, but given our rules just be aware that if things start to look fishy to me I will react accordingly. You might get dinged for something that isn't your fault at all, but unfortunately with the curious, sudden influx of proxy posters lately, the actions of any may be held against all. There's just no way to tell who's who.

OS,
Yep, I thought I smelled something fishy about PS. The fact that PS uses proxies; the fact that PS is from Ireland while HF was from England; the fact that PS shows up after HF was suspended and HF tried to come back before the suspension was up; the fact that PS took the trouble to read previous posts (which I didn't do when I first came to this site) and was really impressed by HF's posts yet despite all of that research into HF past posts PS has no clue as to why HF was temporarily suspended (so PS says); the fact that PS shares the same political philosophy as HF; the fact that PS has come to this site armed with links as HF did.
I don't know. There may be nothing to all of the above. And my suspicions may be totally false. Just smells fishy to me.

Clearly you're becoming a paranoid mackeral sniffer.
Either that, or you've figured out that Professor Plum is actually Colonel Mustard, that the crime was not committed in the Shamrock Lounge, but in the Birmingham Billiard Parlor, and that the murder weapon isn't an Irish candlestick, it's an English wrench.

Aroma does resemble fish
Whilst short it grows the Haggis days
Danny Boy spies ploy makes Haggis squish
But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his wallie nieve a blade,
He'll make it whissle;
An legs an arms, an heads will sned,

Danny,
My poem is like me, Irish, Scotch,Welch....drink too much, too stingy to pay for it with my own money, borrow money to pay for the drinks. don't pay the money back.
The poem on the bottom is a portion of Scotsman Robby Burns' ADDRESS TO A HAGGIS.

Great poem, vstol.
Odd, isn't it, we think the only people in Ireland are Irish. It's as cosmopolitan as the States these days.
I am burdened with a fondness of Kavanagh:
We have tested and tasted too much, lover--
Through a chink too wide there comes in no wonder.
But here in the Advent-darkened room
Where the dry black bread and the sugarless tea
Of penance will charm back the luxury
Of a child's soul, we'll return to Doom
the knowledge we stole but could not use.

Vstol,
Sorry. It is all Celtic to me.
But I still stand by my 3:14 post.
I am also wondering about all of this inordinate attention from the British Isles about American cable news Pundits.
Don't you guys have your own countries to attend to?
Maybe we should just annex Ireland and England and Scotland and make them officially a part of the United States.
(just kidding)

Maybe you could even find a site on the British Isles where reciting Celtic and Englsih poetry would be on topic . . . and not just obnoxious.

Mark,
Still does not explain British Isle apparent OBSESSION with United States Cable news.
However more to the point of your last post: Being a "Citizen of the World" doesn't mean that you adopt one other country (other than your native country), and focus on its affairs to the exclusion of the affairs on any other country, including your own.
Actually if you are a TRULY a citizen of the world you would be spending equal amount of time on internet sites that focus on things French and Chinese sites that focus on things Chinese and Hindu sites that focus on Hindu things etc. You would have very little time to spend on this site (which focuses rather exclusively on United States Cable news).
I applaud your desire to be a citizen of THE WORLD (not a citizen of the U.S. or Great Britain).
I hope that we will see your desire played out by your choice of internet sites in which to participate. I hope that in the future you will give equal time to Russian sites Australian sites Indian sites etc. as you give to this site.
God bless you Mark for your decision to be a Citizen of the World! I look forward to seeing your new resolve manifest itself in your internet behavior.

Such an interesting point, Danny, and I have been on Deutscheweld for almost an hour.
Just out of curiosity, why would it be odd for you or Royal King or Jeff or one of your troll du jour monikers at NH to be in Montana? Do you have something against Montana?

Mark,
Are you delusional? I haven't posted at NH under my or any other name for a long time. I have never posted at NH under any other name but Danny period.
I also never even mentioned Montana.
I don't appreciate being called a Troll. Its name calling which is against the rules of this forum. Also, I could go to NH and find examples of Troll posts if you want so that you can understand what a troll or a troll post really is.
I am glad to see that perhaps you have got your German base covered. But have you been to a Mexican site; a Brazilian site; an Australian site; a Korean site; a Japanese site since you last posted here?
If the answer is "no" don't post here again until you do. Otherwise, you might lose your "world citizen" credentials.

Danny, read the 6:31 post, and put it into context. "You" is the unfortunate Olby Sucks with a couple of his more common, numerous stage names.
But, it is revealing. You are here only to try to torment me. You don't really engage in substantive discussions, and you obviously don't keep track of the threads.
Now, that we have established this, I can enjoy simply ignoring your posts. I have pretty much absorbed all of your positive critiques, anyway. So, please continue to belittle, degrade and troment me, because it won't work. Anyone who wants to understand your motivation and your modus operandi now knows them.
So, Auf Wiedersehen und Gute Fahrt to St. Mark's, a very special Exhile Island of my own creation.

No Mark,
You go back and read your post. You never mentioned OS; you only called my name.
A reasonable person could infer that your entire post was directed to me.
You once inferred that I said something to NVH when yours was the last name I mentioned before the reference.
I had more reason to believe that your comments were directed to me than you had to believe my comment was directed to NVH.
Were you trying to torment me? What does that say about your modus operendi and your motivation?
By your own "world citizen" argument you should not be here for a long time. Lets see if you can be true to your own words.

Let me elaborate on my last post. I fear I wrote it too hurriedly and was not clear:
You look at your 6:31 post. My name is the only name that is mentioned. A reasonable person might infer that your comments are directed at me and that you somehow think that OS is an alter ego of mine . . . one of many names that I use at NH and elsewhere.
Contrast what just happened to what happened a few days before: I mentioned your name and then said that I did not believe your denunciation of Olbermann and NH. You knew damn well that you had done those things.
So, in context and by the fact that your name was the closest to my comment YOU should have known that I was speaking to you.
Instead you authored a post mocking me, with the unlikely premise that I was speaking of NVH and not you.
Based upon your comments just now: what does that say about your motivation? Were you trying to belittle, degrade torment me? What does this say about your modus Operandi?
If you are serious in your statement about being a "citizen of the world" your time quota for posting at this site has long expired. You should not be posting at this site for a very long time.
Let us see if you can keep your word!!

Mark, I understood that your comment was a reply to OS's Montana comment, but why does it look like you're saying that Danny is OS in asking "why would it be odd for you or Royal King or Jeff or one of your troll du jour monikers at NH to be in Montana?"
I'm quite certain that Danny is not OS.

How in the hell is Danny supposed to know what transpired at OW? His reading is correct, the YOU is HIM (Danny), without his being advised otherwise. Any mention of prior bad acts seems to get you in a tizzy, but more importantly, ticks off Johnny and others who want to stick to cable news.

FF:
I tend to put dash marks when I am responding to multiple posts. I failed to do so this time. My error. Absolutely, OS is not Danny, and I should have been clearer about that. Whether Danny is posting at NH, can't say. I don't care.
Sharon:
What in the world are you talking about? There was, remarkably, no mention of my previous, alleged bad acts.
If it helps, the 7:34 post has two (2) paragraphs. The latter refers to OS and only OS. Again, clumsy omission of demarcation dashes. My bad. A thousand apologies for the confusion.
All:
Now that a tick has been removed from my forearm, can we please, please focus on cable news for a change?

On the one hand, you are a stupid Stalinist and a member of the infamous gang of (however many there are now). But on the other hand your are tops . . . your posts are excellent. You should be sent upon a nice all-expense-paid trip that is worthy of your excellence.
Not long ago, I was too smart to be a member of the infamous gang of four. But now since all my posts now have no substance and are stupid, I am probably now in the infamous gang, taking YOUR PLACE.
Continue to post stuff that "enriches" Mark (like I once did) and you may keep your exalted position.
