Imagine the Think Progress articles (and how fast Haggis would trot over here with them) if Griff Jenkins used his crowd interviews to bad-mouth the crowd as being extremists fomented by 'leftwing cable channel' CNN or MSNBC.

Johnny, the difference between ambush interviews "then and now" is that then (and the NYT piece does at least reference Wallace and Moore) the term "stalk" was never part of the headline about those guys, as the NYT uses it with O'Reilly now.

There's a link on the Drudge Report to a Page Six bit about a meeting between NBC and GE brass (Jeff Zucker and Jeffrey Immelt) and CNBC over the honchos' concern that the business channel is Obama bashing.

Is this the sort of corporate intrusion by capitalist corporate whores, into the sacred news division, that we've heard so much about in the past?

Wonder if there will be any future Hollywood scripts featuring government subsidized 'Big Electric' squelching feisty truth-seeking reorters...

"Cooper, 41, was the first guest in the new "UD Speaks" series, designed to give the university community opportunities to hear from world-class leaders. He spoke at the Bob Carpenter Center, where organizers said fewer than 100 of more than 1,600 tickets remained an hour before his 8:30 p.m. start.

As anchor of "Anderson Cooper 360," CNN's weeknight news digest, the New York City native is arguably one of the most powerful journalists on the planet, drawing from a global cast of correspondents who can step to the microphone at a moment's notice to discuss breaking world affairs on location."

Is it just me or does describing Anderson Cooper as "arguably one of the most powerful journalists on the planet" and especially a " world-class leaders" a bit, if not completely, over the top?

Silly me. Of course he is all that and more. Only the very best and brightest world-class leaders and jounalists could cut to the heart of teabagging with such insight and delicacy as Coop!

No siree, Coop refuses to be drawn into all that tripe such as why would tens of thousands of regular US citizens across our great land come together to bring their currently inpopular political views front and center.

Thanks for the link, Johnny. Without you I might have never realized what a truly great man of international import Coop is.

"For some journalism practitioners Mr. O’Reilly’s tactics are unsettling. “Nobody should hijack the power of journalism or use the public airwaves (or cable signals) simply to settle personal scores,” Al Tompkins of the Poynter Institute, a nonprofit that supports journalism education, said in an e-mail message."

Unbelievable! How could this be in the article without at least a footnote that KO is the Guinnes World Book record holder of “Nobody should hijack the power of journalism or use the public airwaves (or cable signals) simply to settle personal scores,” with BOR his prime target/victim.

That video of Susan R convinces me that she either has an identical twinn who sometimes takes over her life or she belongs on a soap opera for her obvious case of amnesia.

I just watched the complete video at Today's Firing Demand" and noticed that at one point she was actually stabbing her finger in the interviewee's face. I don't usually want people to lose their jobs over every little thing but in this case I can make an exception.

On those tea parties....

Mike Barnicle: "The larger point is that anyone who gets actively involved in government, no matter what, if they're out there, you say that's a good thing."

Mika: "I'd rather see this than apathy."

###
Amen, sister!

Joe: "You look at these huge rallies, and I'm not going to mention names of people on networks that made sexual jokes, childish sexual jokes, about tens of thousands of Americans who went out and wanted to get involved in their government. I mean, it was really middle school jokes being made. I didn't hear those jokes being made when people on the left protested over the past eight years. And I would expect that from bloggers on the left. I would expect more than that from news outlets and it happened on several networks yesterday."

One would think that MM would mention a reporter, berating an interviewee then expressing their own political views rather than simply reporting on the event.

But of course, one would have to expect MM to be reasonable in order for that to happen. That would be an unreasonable expectation.

Now, what is there to make Media Matters interested in the Tea Party coverage, Blackflon?

After all, you merely had one CNN reporter attempting to imply that the protesters were all anti-CNN conservatives from the Right (they somehow shirk this task when copiously covering protesters who are anti-FNC leftists...).

You only had Rick Sanchez asking questions that implied the protesters were largely racists.

And then there was little thing with an MSNBC "reporter" launching into five minutes of double entendre for oral sex, culminating in his slow pronunciation of "Dick...Armey", not once but TWICE, just in case someone failed to get his meaning.

A stellar performance by the media in general, who will be the first to tell you that they don't promote political protests.

However, it's clear that they are certainly not adverse to promoting certain notions about conservatives in general and not adverse to prompting public contempt towards the Right.

Now, the media will point the finger at FNC and frame it all as justified criticism of their cable competition.

However, CNN and MSNBC should ponder the idea that perhaps their condescension and disdain towards a large segment of the tv viewing public is what helps FNC beat the hell out of them in the first place.

Well, even under his latest name, the l'il feller is complaining about MikeC and even Dennis Miller, saying Miller's not funny.

Perhaps the l'il feller ought to count the number of his own HBO specials and the number of late night comedy television shows of which he's been a cast member.

It would be interesting to find out who leaked the DHS report to the media.

I just read that the report also cited the recent cop killer as an example of "rightwing extremism".

THAT has been a leftwing talking point.

To suggest that anyone who collects guns and who fears a judicial or legislative curtailment of the 2nd Amendment, is acting out of "rightwing extremism" if he goes off after fighting with his mom, is nuts.

What if the guy had shot the police in the act of robbing the bank, instead of the act of being enraged at his mother.

If we're going to say that this action was driven by this monster's political beliefs and is therefore suggestive of domestic terrorism, perhaps we should examine the politics of all thugs who murder law enforcement officers.

Went to check out the mediabistro ratings numbers, absolutely steller for Fox (which had more viewers in primetime than CNN/MSNBC/HLN combined!! And of course, Keithy's first run couldn't beat BOR's rerun.

Had to laugh at this comment from MB poster pinkpinkbear:

pinkpinkbear 1 minute ago
The Ed Show will catch on once people see it. I have high hopes for this show.

Keith O. and Rachel rock the ratings as usual. Don't believe the ratings chart. More people watch then you think.

Tonight Keith O. will talk about the CIA under Bush and the torture that was done. Tune in! Should be good.

Well pinky - your theory about Ed's viewers sound good, but the ratings clearly show that people were watching him, but they continue to tune out each day. His ratings have plummeted.

If what you say about Keithys and Rachels ratings are true, then either people are ashamed to admit they watch those shows, or statistically FNC also has more viewers than you think.

Last point, Keithy is going to talk about Bush? What a surprise! Perhaps Keithy will have an original thought someday.

Thank you for posting that second u-tube video from Illinois. It explains the reporter’s statement about the state of Lincoln and also highlights that she was being harassed in the earlier video, and that the harassment continued.

Now as to the other conversation: You are attacking your government, not the Canadian Military.

I think I see, it’s as clear as mud. You are carrying on two conversations, on two different threads and you have combined both trains of thought in that post.

If you are worried that we may, send down our abortionists. Have no fear; we keep them firmly in hand. Our Catholics, well I can’t make any promises there. A fair number of them are French, don’t ya know, and they are always unpredictable. As to anarchists well we really don’t have any of those, I don’t think, unless you wish to lob the French Separatists into that group, but being French they would rather love than fight so again I think you are safe.

I think that clears up that matter. My next problem is which thread to post this one. I don’t want to be chastised yet again, just when I thought I had figured out your system!

Grammie, HotAir.com had an excellent story comparing the current DHS report to one from the Bush era report the left is trying to use to say this was not a big deal.....

http://hotair.com/archives/2009/04/15/the-vaunted-left-wing-extremism-report/

###
The lack of breathless coverage (especially from "RESIGN!" Olbermann) of the broad brush strokes the Obama administration makes with regards to monitoring our fellow free citizens is chilling indeed. Another, "What if Bush had done it," moment to be sure.

And Haggis, the report does not specifically say the people have to be followed, it is an "alert" to law enforcement to basically profile people based on their ideological beliefs. No specific groups or threats are mentioned unlike the Bush era document.

The report was wrong to be so general and even give the impression that we should be distrustful of returning veterans. The timing of the release is also ironic.

14tr,

I don't know whether you've figured out our "system" or not, but I can't certainly vouch for the fact that you have extreme difficulties deciphering what you READ.

No, I wasn't saying anything about Canadian terrorists coming down south or about the Canadian military per se.

However, I doubt the Canadian govt takes your view that any talk of domestic rghtwing or leftwing terrorism in your country is like accusing hell of having snowmen. So my statement wasn't so irrelevant as to be completely obscure to you.

What I was doing was making an ironic point, that credit should be given where credit is due.

Red Eye may lampoon the Canadian military, but the U.S. government insults its own troops.

The entire U.S. of A. (including its cable comedy shows...), should give Canada a big thumbs up for the fact that when considering issues of domestic terrorism, Canada doesn't find it necessary to profile its own veterans, as my govt has.

Now lets move on to the next analogy, joke, bon mot, news report, blog owner rule, or compliment, that you will have difficulty understanding, or will find some offense in.

Cee, thanks for the links.

It would take days to deconstruct and make a point by point comparison.

However, just reading the two back to back proves that the left wing assessment named some specific groups and specific actions by those groups and a certainty that they were strengthening and pose even larger risks.

The right wing assessment lacks all of that and is rampant with words and phrases such as could; might; no evidence; no indication; etc in relation to the threat.

I found this in the RW Report:

"Federal efforts to influence domestic public opinion must be
conducted in an overt and transparent manner, clearly identifying United States
Government sponsorship."

Surprise, surprise surprise there was no mention of the Government attempting to influence opinion at all much less how to.

It is not an easy read but I feel it was worth it and I'm sure I'll go back to it.

Whoever wants to see the source documents there are very good embedded links in the pieces.

Again, thanks Cee.

Cecelia | 04.16.09 - 7:03 pm | #
Perhaps this conversation is taking place in yet another place, a third thread, but I don’t remember reading of any insult to your troops, nor their being profiled in any way. If I had perhaps I would have understood your reference and not asked for clarification. However, usually when one asks for clarification it is met with some form of explanation, not hostility.
As you can see hostility tends to lead to hostility.
Now as to your private war between Fox, CNN, MSNBC etc., I will leave you to hash it out amongst yourselves. I receive neither Fox nor MSNBC so I am not exactly qualified. I signaled out no network in my post, just a generalization that worrying about ratings seems a bit superficial, given the numbers I was looking at. You obviously don’t agree so carry one, by all means.
As to my lurking, although that may be on the other thread, I take you do not appreciate foreign guests so I take my self off and try another day. Perhaps you are overwrought at the moment so I won’t hold it against you.

I just watched the YouTube video of Susan Boyle auditioning on Britain's Got Talent. I'd been hearing about it all day. A true viral video taken only a few days ago.

She has an incredible voice. Oh my God, she is such a fantastic singer who absolutely nailed that song from Les Miserables. If she chooses to go for it, she will become a big star. My wife and I were just in tears listening. Sheer beauty. I urge all posters here to check it out. Go for the long version, about 7 minutes long. You won't regret it.
