I sympathize with Greta over her wonky pitch.

I will say that Greta in that uniform, looks the cutest and the most modern that I've seen her look. I love her, but she should either stick to baseball clothes or appear on "What Not to Wear".

the pound is in a hissy fit because i pointed out that jesse bought some shares of GE-one had this insane idea of ge suing:

Intern Jess bought the GE shares under false pretenses-get access to GE meetings. GE should sue Intern Jesse and News Corporation for violating policy of video taping/audio recording a meeting without permission.

Crazy and ignorant. There are no 'pretenses' when you buy stock. Nobody has to explain their reasons to purchase. You pays your money and you get your stock. And there is no GE policy against audio recording a meeting--especially a meeting in which he is a participant! What a maroon!

I suppose they are all too young or uninformed to recall 'Roger and Me'...where Michael Moore went to multiple GM stockholder meetings with camera to hector the CEO of GM. How did he get in? He bought GM stock. Just like Jesse.

GREAT video (over at Olbermann Watch) of O'Reilly on Beck's show, talking about the financial interest GE has in promoting the president's agenda.

(I saw your tip about it yesterday, Johnny, but I missed the program.)

Bob Somerby of the Daily Howler, may see a 'robber baron' type behind any business with the temerity to make a profit..., but he correctly surmised that the boot to-the-head contempt shown by MSNBC towards political protesters last week, was a corporate approved tactic.

Speaking of the Daily Howler, Bob Somerby (in typical blue blog fashion), makes an ominous conjecture as to why transcripts of the Rachel Maddow Show are not showing up at the MSNBC site.

If Jesse Watters becomes the recipient of his own treatment, so be it.

Live by the sword, die by the same sword, in my book.

Michael Moore once "watched" Lucianne Goldberg (of lucianne.com, mother of NR's Jonah Goldberg, and friend and ertswhile literary agent of that bane of Pres. Clinton's existence-- Linda Tripp) by posing a camera on the window of her New York apartment and broadcasting it on the web.

Nary a peep was made about THAT at the time, of course.

If I were Jesse, I'd walk right out to the camera and start talking. With FNC cameras also there, of course, to protect the record. He might begin by asking why Gawker claims he got into the stockholders meeting using the pretense that he's a stockholder. Pretense?!? Even GE has said, on the record, that he's a stockholder and has a perfect right to attend and ask questions.

The possible sale of NBC-U is interesting. Is there some buyer that would like to add NBC and Universal Studios to their portfolio.

Anyone out there who already owns a movie studio and a TV network, say...uh, I don't know, uh perhaps 20th Century Fox and Fox TV and Fox News, and Fox Business Network, and Sky TV, want to expand their business?

Can you imagine if Rupert Murdoch made a play for NBC-U.

Poor Jesse Watters and Bill O'Reilly.

They'll never get press like this...:

"Variety April 5-11 199
"Like an ultra-liberal superhero out to fight the bad guys, Moore claims to use the power of TV for good instead of evil, and the result can only be descibed as manic. The Awful Truth is a roller coaster ride of biting commentary, gut-busting humor and disturbing investigative journalism. A cross between "America's Funniest Home Videos " and "60 Minutes," The Awful Truth, like Moore's previous effort, "TV Nation," is guaranteed to offend, but once again sets the bar for the most daring show on television. If it were on Fox, it would be called "When Michael Moore Attacks.""

The New York Times April 4 1999
"As in the past, Mr. Moore can be counted on to defend downtrodden "ordinary people" like Mr. Donahue while taking aim at rigid (some might say easy) targets like bureaucratic corporations and double talking politicians. As ever, his chief weapons are his unblinking movie camera and his wicked, off-beat sense of humor, which usually manages to keep him from seeming sanctimonious as he plays a kind of schlumpy Robin Hood."'

But perish the thought that a news show should go to a shareholders meeting in order to ask corporate honchos some tough questions, when it's about MSNBC/GE!

Liberals have argued that such things were necessarily done by Michael Moore and others, because the MSM would rather cover the kidnappings of suburban girls, than corporate-political collusion.

Especially given the fact that CNBC on-air talent Rick Santelli described himself as having been sent to "re-education camp" by GE honchos after his tirade against Obama Administration economic policy.

It was quite a "catch" for Watters to then get Immelt on tape as saying that he's strictly hands-off with MSNBC content!

From the Huffpo rant againt KO:

O'Donnell went on to say that, "I am, like Sean Hannity, one of those cowards, just like Dick Cheney... who has refused throughout my life to... ever subject myself to..." military service/mortal danger.

So, people who chose not to serve in the Military are cowards?

The left wing is fast to point to Sean, Rush, Cheney, etc. when this topic comes up, so let's examine some others who are in this category because they did not serve in the military:

Keith Olbermann
John Edwards
Harry Reid
Patrick
President Obama
Rahm Emmanuel
David Schuster

According to Lawrence O'Donnell's definition, each of those people is a coward.

I do not believe that all of these people are cowards. But, it is a terrible thing to call anyone a coward because they did not serve in the military.

A vast majority of american men have not served in the military. A vast majority of American men of draft age throughout the history of the draft, did not serve in the military.

Those that do accuse others of cowardice because they did not serve typically are cowards themselves, not for their own history of service/non-service, but for other reasons...and this brings me back to why I wrote "I do not believe that all of these people are cowards." Not all, not most, not some, just one. And that one is nervous this time of year...tornado season.

Liberal viewer does not impress me. I checked out one of his videos (about who's more fair on the torture memos) where he compared a long, long clip from Maddow, with about 30 seconds from O'Reilly. Then declared Maddow was "more fair" because she went into more detail about the caterpillar threat than O'Reilly did.

This is a classic propaganda technique: take one tiny detail that fits your spin and focus on it to make your point. NOt only is it a tiny detail, it's also a less relevant detail, because this 'insect threat' technique was never used! So it's a hypothetical 'torture' that never happened.

By focusing on this, giving Maddow, a long, long clip, and O'Reilly a 30-second snippet, he loads the dice to make his claim. He praises Maddow for how 'accurate' she was, but cites nothing O'Reilly said that was inaccurate. And of course, Bill hardly got two sentences out before he cut his mic.

Of course he chose O'Reilly, rather than take coverage from Shep Smith, or Judge Napolitano, or any of a dozen other possibilities. And then claims his video compares Fox News with MSNBC. Which it doesn't. It compares O'Reilly with Maddow, and does so in a lop-sided, dishonest fashion.

So you'll forgive me if I don't waste any time watching his latest production.

Oh, please!

FNC didn't create GE corporate lobbying of Washington, which makes NBC's and MSNBC's Obama Administration cheer leading (in the face of CNBC squelching) highly suspicious.

FNC didn't create the scuttlebutt (confirmed by Rick Santelli) that CNBC was taken to the GE woodshed for its criticism of Obama economic policies.

FNC didn't create Immelt's explicit statement that the corporate hierarchy is strictly hands-off with Obama-friendly MSNBC (unlike corporate actions with Obama-critical CNBC).

FNC didn't create the booing audience response to Immelt's answers to questions.

They merely asked the questions and taped the responses.

Good for them.

Ashley, I watched Lawrence O'Donnell give his treatise on COUNTDOWN last night, and he was entering Howard Beale territory. He was crazed.

Olbermann also entered the Beale universe last night, but with lie after lie in a very poorly supported historical analysis of waterboarding. He really was a democrat party apologist as well.

I actually am glad this issue is there as the ball of yarn, so to speak, distracting the radical left....it takes energy away from other things, makes them look radical and if moderates and the right don't take the bait, it will marginalize the left. Obama knows this and is why he has appeared so squishy with it all.

Olbermann, Maddow and the rest of the unhinged left can certainly take up the banner of "AMERICA TORTURED" but clear thinkers will keep perspective and remember why and on whom the enhanced interrogation was used.

If it all goes further into truth commissions or special prosecutors, I predict Bill Clinton's problems with the blue dress will be envied by Obama. There is only so much oxygen in Washington.

Olbermann is waging an argument that is damaging to his own side, even more strongly than the Huff-Po writer imagined!

In Olbermann's Daily Kos blog (linked above), he's actually betting FOR the premise that waterboarding IS effective!

Olbermann is implying that after he's waterboarded for charity, Hannity will spill every deep dark secret he has and will offer his own mother up in trade for his freedom.

Oh, that'll help your side's argument that the practice never yields up anything of value, Keith...

Well, Chris, I looked at the first video that came up rather closely and just don't agree with you. The setup with the meanacing monotone voice doing both narration and quuotes for the Repub position and Repub Speaker while the Minority Leader was shown making a, by the sound bite standard, fairly long segment uninterrupted. Just that presentation alone disqualifies to a substantial degree whatever comes later.

Based on what I saw of the FNC coverage I thought it conveyed the difference between the votes by which party members and why fairly accurately.

Now, if you could show me the entire pertinent film and/or transcript that was available for them to compose what was a very very short segment there might be something there.

Additionally, if I remember correctly Hastert and the Repubs were in the cats bird seat on that one and the Dems wound up with a lot of egg on their faces. Most Americans then and now DO NOT favor giving foreign terrorists making war sans uniform or nation state to back them all the rights that we as American citizens enjoy.

my question was what people thought about liberalviewer and his foxnews editing videoa and provided a link to one for thoughts-i tried to do a summary and i guess didnt do quite well-i dont have any transcripts of the program-thanks for your thoughts

on another note:

msnbc primetime: waterboarding is torture
foxnews primetime (host, some guests) waterboarding isnt torture

so which is it?

def. of torture:

Torture, according to the United Nations Convention Against Torture, is:
“ any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a male or female person for such purposes as obtaining from him, or a third person, information or a confession, punishing him for an act he or a third person has committed or is suspected of having committed, or intimidating or coercing him or a third person, or for any reason based on discrimination of any kind, when such pain or suffering is inflicted by or at the instigation of or with the consent or acquiescence of a public official or other person acting in an official capacity. It does not include pain or suffering arising only from, inherent in, or incidental to, lawful sanctions.[1]

now does waterboarding fit that def.

Chris, I watched the video in your link. Unfortunately, the coverage of Fox was so minimal about the issue it makes me wonder what else Fox aired that told the whole story. After all, it was surely covered by more than one host and the story liberalviewer described was just as likely aired as well. Hopefully you don't consider a minute of FNC in 2006 without evidence of the rest of the coverage as representative of anything. It's liberalviewer's opinion, and he/she is welcome to it. BTW, the voiceover was terrible.

In regards to the torture debate, I have seen just as lively, well done and passionate debates on FNC "hard news" as I have on any network. The difference is that some (ahem, NBC NEWS), seem to tilt more towards endorcing the OPINION that some of the enhanced interrogation procedures were torture while I believe FNC has both sides equally and fairly presented.

If one watches a "quality program" like COUNTDOWN, one would leave with the impression that what was specifically done 2002-2006 in our country was the same thing done in 1896, 1942 or 1967....The facts seem to show something different but that "journalist" does not seem to care about that. Olbermann does not believe the issue is up for debate and he even goes further. He and the guests he choose have said those who feel a full debate should continue in determining if American inteliigence agents tortured are sadists, stupid and/or evil.

I believe what was done in 2002-2006 is not torture. The "waterboarding" was not the same thing that was done in previous prosecutions of many examples of "watercuring." I do not believe my opinion makes me a monster and many, including the former AG, seem to agree with me.

So, I prefer the FNC attitude that does not call me evil, sadistic, and stupid. How about you chris? Does MSNBC do a good job in their self-rightous way of basically saying a large number of our citizenry are not worth any attention, should be in jail....perhaps even tortured themselves because they disagree with an opinion they hold?

The lack of respect for people coming from NBC NEWS is the real controversy in journalism currently and is doing more damage to the minds and hearts of some than anything FNC can be accused of doing, or waterboarding for that matter! Primetime sermons masquerading as journalism that take advantage of the lowest common instincts in the viewers to basically hate others should be seen as wrong, damaging and radical.

It won't be because we have a new self-rightous and intolerant group pursuing authority. They hypocritically claim they will do a superior job in keeping all us "rabble" on the moral high ground instead of those they label as pious, anti-intellectual and intolerant. NBC NEWS is the place to become indoctrinated in that world view and that is a shame because it was once an unbiased, respectful and thoughtful organization.

every since i start commenting here-you have been the most hateful towards me-the others have disagreed with me and have been respectful of it-not you-so again whats going on that makes you so unhappy about me being here-is it like you dont like to be challanged so you resort to hateful, sarasctic remarks?

Please. Cecelia's comment may have been sarcastic (not a problem by me...I majored in Sarcasm), but it's unfair to call it 'hateful'. It's just not true that anyone who disagrees with you is automatically 'hateful'.

I can respect your opinion regarding other NBC NEWS programs, chris. I personally like Brian Williams and have a good opinion of his work.

However, on the rare occasion I watch NBC NN, there's a teaser for COUNTDOWN and I wonder how such poor quality programming can be tolerated by truly professional and unbiased journalists.

The teabagging jokes and Garofalo was the last straw for me.

That's good to hear, Chris.

The last two people who said pretty much the same thing, after having commented on my "hate" when I treated them less than warmly... turned out to be Haggis as Chippy Minton and Patrick as Babbabooey.

BTW-- are you new here? Have you commented here before under any other name?

David Shuster's career should not have survived his hour long spree of obscene double entendre.

THAT was just creepy, no way around it. I don't know how anyone who knows him could look at him the same way again.

I thought the teabagging comments were funny, but I'm a low brow humor kind of guy.  I agree 100% with the tea party protester's message about overtaxation and dire effects of the socialist bailouts (that Bush started and Obama multiplied many times over).

In this day and age I expect such jokes to be made and am OK with laughing about them even if they're supposed to be dogging a cause I agree with.

I suspect that your attitude is much more a function of your age combined with society's ever loosening standards.

I'm not a prude nor am I a shrinking violet and would, I am sure, found most if not all of it funny in a private setting with friends and families.

We as parents always tell our children use your inside voice in the house not your soccer field voice.

Use your church words and manners and not your squabbling with your brothers and sisters voice and manners.

The entire night time line up at MSNBC doesn't have seem to have a clue of what is appropriat behavior as opposed to tottally offensive and inappropriate behavior.

I agree. You had Mary Tyler Moore, I had Beavis and Butthead. Teabagging, donkey punching, and the shocker also happen to be frequent topics of discussion at my place of employment. And to think we all wear ties!

The inside/outside voice concept is never so appropriate and enchanting (and "adult" in the most delicious sense of the word) as when it applies to things having to do with the bedroom.

I feel sorry for any age group that relegates that "game" to the level of playing frisbee.

Anon (Cecelia?), you are incorrect to assume I'm missing out on any seductive thrills based on my embracement of current phraseology of the colorful and dynamic English language.
