I asked Z a question (it will pop up eventually) about O'Reilly's interview with Kucinich.
Z's praise for Olbermann centered around his interview with Maxine Waters, and her disapproval of Obama's Afghanistan decision. However, that's pretty much what happened on O'Reilly too. So I'll be interested to see what he feels the difference between the two interviews is.

Re: "Comcastic winners and losers": More winners in the GE/NBC Universal/Comcast deal: Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Ed Schultz, David Shuster, Tamron Hall, Contessa Brewer, Norah O'Donnell, Lawrence O'Donnell, Dylan Ratigan, Dr. Nancy Snyderman, Howard Fineman, Richard Wolffe, Eugene Robinson, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezynski, Willie Geist, Mike Barnicle, Donny Deutsch, and Howard Dean. More losers: Rupert Murdoch, Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Jim Pinkerton, Cal Thomas, Mary Katharine Ham, Fred Barnes, Charles Krauthammer, Stephen Hayes, Bill Kristol. You see where I'm going with this? Or am I overreacting?

I can't link to Popmatters. What did they say about Imus?

Anon,
That Imus has exploited and cheapened further even the cheapest elements of pop culture ethnic casts.
That his remarks about the Rutgers women basketball team are more significant than realized because they touch upon an inner narrative and struggle in African-American women in the face of historical suffering and unattainable cultural expectations (such as eurocentric standards of beauty, I presume).
They also caused more angst and grief in the black community than realized because they highlighted that the facts of past wrongs and improbable expectations are met with silence within the white cultural elite.
The same cultural elite that toadys to and hobnobs with Don Imus, as he continues use pop cultural references as though they were born in a vacuum-- without history, context, or humanity.
Anyway, I think those were the writer's points.

Re: FNC rules
The unspoken rebuttal this piece tries to answer is that ratings aren't that big of deal because its just cable news and that audience is small as compared to network news.
What I don't understand is, how you compare an hour of nightly news on the big 3 each night and the odd news show (such as 60 Minutes and Dateline) with 13 hours of top rated news programming found on FNC.
More people of varying types may watch Brian Williams, but of the people who follow news stories and news analysis, more of them are getting it from FNC.
24 hours/day.
That cannot not be anything BUT significant.

Looks like MSNBC's best came in third place last night. MSNBC's "STAR" Cankles was creamed by BOR and beaten by HLN's Nancy Grace, both in the demo and the overall.....2 times last night. Both the first run and the second run. In fact, Nancy Grace's rerun demo beat Olby's first run demo.
Congrats to Fox and HLN.

Re: Olby praised.
Mr. Zurawik is pretty even handed in his analysis and has certainly not been rendered into quivering flesh over Keith Olbermann's success at garnering ratings for lefty rants (as has most of the media).
I hope he reads Tommy Christopher's Mediaite piece on Olbermann's change of position concerning Afghanistan (linked here yesterday).
My theory is that since his ratings decline, he's gone into complete Daily Kos toady mode. Gone are the days when he defended utterly the president's broken promises made to leftists during the campaign.
I watched a Countdown segment, a discussion about health care with Arianna Huffington, where Keith expressly stated that one of the points he was making came from a Kos poster.
The fact that it was a such a silly point (even Obama health care proponent Huffington immediately dismissed it as such) illustrated that Keith had just pulled nonsense...any nonsense... out, so he could pander to his audience.
As much as Olbermann works to inure support of the president, with the all the gravity and morality of supporting the civil rights issues of the 1960s, he'll throw Pres. Obama under the bus when ti comes to keeping up the monthly fees at Trump Tower.

I can access mediabistro. Tina, when I get that problem, a restart of my computer usually helps.
The ratings for the Presidents speech are phenomenal. MSNBC third place as expected, good to see FNC beat them by more than 300% in both the overall and the demo....you know, THE demo that the Fox Haters used to talk about....but not anymore.

I wish Johnny would make you the official JDP designator of CotD.
Your help would probably take so much off him.

Thanks Ashley. Turned off my computer but for some reason I still get "server not found" at mediobistro. Thanks for letting me know though that FNC was number one for the speech last night.

You can also use the links from 'tv by the numbers'. Their nightly reports have mostly the same data as mediabistro.

HLN's ratings: They didn't mention Joy Behar's numbers. Perhaps the only ones checking out her show at all are me and my two cats. (No wonder they hiss a lot more.)
And here is something I noticed with her show: At :20 and :50, they have been running some 10-minute infomercials! Gee, something tells me she may be having trouble generating ad revenue for HLN.
