Is Sean Hannity conning his followers?

If any of this is true about his Freedom Concerts, he has some answering to do.
Now I know why I don't watch this guy.

Sad to say, this isn't the only "Charity" that fails to meet the criteria for a reputable charity. MDA comes to mind.

I've heard this complaint before and it may be valid or it may not. I thought I read something somewhere that the info was misleading because they do other things than just helping troops' families, but I don't know where. It gets good ratings from sites like Charity Navigator, who apparently base their findings on comparisons with how other charities do on percent of dollar standards. While I'm not one to defend Hannity, keep in mind that Debbie Schlussel has been after him for years; there is some sort of personal spat going on between them. So I'm not convinced that it's a 'scam', but there is reason for concern.

May I suggest that you read it over at MediaMatters. That's exactly what they said.

"I've heard this complaint before"
You are right. Daily Kos raised it way back in 2007

Looking at the figures there appears to be merit in what Schlussel alleges. Personally I think Hannity's a little oink and I wouldn't put this sort of thing past him. Then there is Oliver North

Well Media Matters and Daily Kos are pushing the story. That'll be a great credibility boost.

Fox Nation embedded Think Progress audio in a story about Rep. Steve King on Glenn Beck's radio show. Fox haters should make a note of that.

At least you're an admitted Fox hater, some people try to hide their bias!
I'm not one of them either, I'm a Fox Fan.

Mike C: Well, yeah, I make no attempt to hide my bias since I write for an anti-Fox site -- that would be pretty silly! However, I'm over here because I'm also interested in opposing viewpoints, and I'll admit -- publicly! -- that Johnny Dollar's scrutiny has made me a more careful writer. Regards, Julie

I notice the front page didn't have a link to the masterful performance by Jon Stewart on last nights Daily Show.
Beck was made to look like a bubble nosed mongoose
Stewart took Becks nonsense talk to its logical conclusion and came up with a very surprising result. It's a must see video

Why would Stewart need to do that when Beck is so good at making himself look like a bubble-nosed mongoose?
And good at making himself look like he has all the manic genius of a young Robin Williams.
Which he does.
Beck is an intriguing, exasperating, and utterly compelling talent. I'm hoping he avoids spontaneous combustion long enough to become even more fearless, yet paradoxically more cautious.

Jon Stewart did a perfect parody of Glenn Beck. I laughed the whole time.
I am a huge Jon fan and a huge Beck fan. They are both fantastic at what they do.

hehe....I take it you don't hang on his every word then?
Stewart was simply showing the ridiculousness of the Beck arguments...in a very funny way
I'm surprised Beck hasn't told his viewers that you can generate the word "peculiar" out of republican...I noticed this while playing scrabble the other night. The wife and I laughed heartily as we were watching Beck simultaneously.

Stewart did a great job of parroting Beck's unintention and intentional...over the top mannerisms and he did a reductio absurdum take on Beck's arguments, which rings funny because Beck often skips into that territory himself.
But that doesn't sum up Beck's sheer brilliance. Not by a long shot.

so predictable: Ellen picked up the hannity-charity "scam" and in her report TOTALLY LEAVES OUT freedom Alliance side of the story. While Newshounds bashes fox news for being biased-SO ARE THEY. newshounds throwing stones from their glass house.
The point of this comment is not to defend hannity but show the bias of the newshounds when they "report" the story.

Say what?
"CNN’s viewership level stands substantially below that of Fox News’ estimated 1.95 million average weekly viewers in 2009. Almost all of the top 10 most watched news programs are aired on Fox News with O’Reilly factor claiming viewership of more than 320,000 alone."
I guess the Treifis Team got one thing right. A couple million is "more than 320,000 alone."

Chris, thanks for linking to Frum's report.
It is interesting to learn that servicemen cannot accept gifts >$1,000, without going through bureaucratic hell. If that's the case, then why are there so many of these wounded soldier's groups around? If people knew how very little money ultimately reaches these serviceman, they'd probably stop donating and try to help in some other way.
I thought these guys were getting TENS OF THOUSANDS of dollars in help. Sorry to be rude, but this sucks! These charities should quit collecting the money and try to give what they have now to somehow benefit these veterans. Or make the idiot Pentagon change the rules on limiting gifts.
A couple hundred bucks would not go far at all to help people who are severely injured.
