Made fresh scones. Cinnamon with a faint hint of nutmeg. Strong, hot, bracing pot of earl grey. Clotted cream. Half scone with honey and butter, other side with lemon curd. Playback of tivo'd part 2 O'Reilly-Clinton interview.

(Had another tea with cream in honor of O'Reilly. I'll remind myself to dislike him tomorrow.)

The NYT link had an infromative and balanced overview of the evolving relationship between the journalists at FOX NEWS and the Democratic nominees. The "Fixed-News" or "Faux-News" silliness by supposed professionals at MSNBC will continue to show how marginalized and out-of-touch the radicals of far left, and their media shills like Olbermann and Abrams, are becoming in this campaign.

I am sorry the "most influential" has run its course. I am scratching my head over some of the ratings, particularly Tweety, but there was some good analysis and lots of fun.

It was a bit strange to find them making Rove #1, when he's been a pundit for, what, a coupla months?!?

More than a bit strange, but that's what you get when you have UK Elites making up lists regarding influence here. Karl Rove is not even in the top 20 - please!

It's unbelievable how anyone could take a comedy channel host even half way serious. The only people he's 'influencing' you can bet are holding some sort of drug utencil or a beer bong while they stare at the screen.....

Two theories:

"Pundit" has a more generalized meaning in the UK than it does in the States. The origin is Sakskirt, from "pandit" and it simply mean a learned person or expert. The connotation in the US has to do with articulation, prognostication. I would certainly say Rove is a political expert (even as I might say he uses his expertise for dark and sinister purposes).

Rove is included for his infamy, his notoriety. Disdain for Bush in Europe and the UK is greater even than disdain for Bush in the States. It has been for a number of years. Rove is seen as the man who was responsible for putting this man in our living rooms.

Sorry, I meant "Sanskirt".

And, if you don't think Stewart understands politics and wields influence over a large group of people (largely the Chablis, not the bier set), you are sorely mistaken. You might not like it, but it is a fact.

> Rove is included for his infamy, his notoriety.

The paragraph on Rove gives quite different reasons for his inclusion.

Maybe.

I'm not sure that "intellectual nimbleness" and "provovative turn of phrase" and "plotted" (although the latter was used in the charted sense, literally, don't have some very dark connotations.

And, I'm not so sure the attributes listed, connoting involvement and not mere expository activities, don't support my theories.

I think David and you are correct, however. I don't think as a pundit, in American English, Rove would score big.

Tony Snow can't fill in *every* time BOR is off. Those far-left-leaning/Olby-loving TVNewser people want so badly to kill (for lack of a better term) Snow off "The Radio Factor" and anything associated with BOR or Fox. What, Michael Smerconish can't fill in two days in a row? TVNewser is likely thinking: "Yes! The evil O'Reilly's right hand man has officially turned against him!"

And for the record, besides Smerconish, the other two secondary fill-ins are Dom Giordano and Doug McIntyre.

I ridiculously wasted 10 to 15 minutes reading Oralmann's envy post at Kos, and the radical comments that followed it, before giving up.

I enjoyed the logic that garnering an audience of 3 million is a desperate and pathetic move by someone running for national office...

I agree OTM, Stewart DOES have a big influence over a certain demographic. I disagree with 90% of the top 50 list, but Stewart is a political firecracker. I watched his show with Gingrich the night O'Reilly had his first interview with Hillary (love the DVR) and it was a fantastic interview. Whether Stewart should have had #8 is debatable.

If you read through the comments from each day, most of them say that Rush should have been #1.

From HuffPo:

....according to Chris Wallace, who reported this morning that Obama was "thinking seriously" about appearing on the Factor.....

I would simply love to see Olbermann's kos diary analysis of that WORLD EXCLUSIVE...likely many excuses for his man crush?

One including, "Obama had to appear after Hillary caved first."

I chuckled at one of the comments at HuffPo: "Obama is good at following the leader...he better hope Hillary doesn't start wearing dresses."

It is hard to ignore the potential of 3 million in the audience.

The comments about Limbugh may very well be correct. I have never been able to figure him or the ditto-heads out, so I really am unable to comment. Interestingly, although I dislike O'Reilly and Hannity every bit as much as I dislike Limbaugh, I can understand why some viewers are attracted to O'Reilly and Hannity. Limbaugh escapes me. My #1 pundit would probably be Russert. Although his presence wouldn't warrant it, I do think Brokaw in his new commentator role is really good.

Hannity doesn't impress me. At all. He does not appeal to my intellect. And I hate the way it takes him 5 minutes to ask a question. and that he has to include a finger-counted litany of things with each question.

OReilly talks about a few issues that I care about. And I do love when he has repugant America-haters on. But in general he's a little too into his own opinion and I hate the way he talks over Laura Ingraham, though I love how she can't hide her facial expression when you can tell she's pissed.

Whats up with John Gibson? What kind of attack was that? Why is their so much outrage that McCain called his wife a [deleted]? Who cares? The [deleted] question brings out so much hate against Soros David Brock and Begala. Where was the outrage when the Rove and the Bush campaign said that McCain's black adopted daughter was his illegitimate daughter? I just dont get this cherry picked outrage.

Okay, please stop referring to Mark as "philby." Just call him Mark, On The Mark, or OTM. I'm not even sure he ever *was* "philby."
Anyway, Vince, I think I saw you commenting to a Mary Katharine Ham blog post. I could be wrong. I occasionally comment to her posts myself.
I feel different about Laura Ingraham, though. I tried to watch tonight, but if BOR were hosting, he would have wrangled in any guests that spoke over another guest. He would have said, "Hold on, Doug, let Liz finish her point." Also, in the segment with Amanda Carpenter, Laura just *had* to give props to Rush ("my friend") and Operation Chaos and then refer to that damn Fairness Doctrine threat if Obama or Clinton ends up being president. I'm ever-so-slightly worried about that coming back into play, but I don't freak out over the possibility and am so sick of any Fairness-Doctrine-bringing-back hysteria.
I haven't said this until now, but Noel Sheppard brought up a very good point in the NewsBusters link: the "If you can't beat 'em, bash 'em" mindset at MSNBC. It's sad that they are able find success in bringing in viewers (albeit only a million and change max) by belittling the competition. Self-proclaimed this, dubious that; milktoast this, gym teacher that; Fox Noise this, Fixed News that; reading transcripts from far-left blogs "using a funny voice" (as Glenn Beck said of KO); snidely smirking that other shows had "world exclusive" interviews before your competitor did; and so on.
Okay, I'm done.

Having said all I just said about Laura, I like her, but I'm uncomfortable with her as a "Factor" fill-in. But we all saw what someone I *am* comfortable with, E.D. Hill, got for a rating two Wednesdays ago; ABC debate or not. It occurred to me today that the only reason E.D. was the fill-in that night was because Laura and BOR were at the R&TVC Dinner and John Kasich wasn't available. I'm probably wrong, but I get that feeling.

For whatever reason, E.D. Hill is not flourishing. I think she does very well with her 2:00 pm hour, and as they say on American Idol "she makes it her own" with her unique style. But the April ranker shows it to be one of the lowest-rated hours on FNC.

Really, I think the way FNC could solve two problems at once is to move her out of that 2:00 pm news hour and put her in the center chair of Fox & Friends weekend.
