I really hope O'Reilly confronts Senator Obama regarding his rabid supporters at Daily Kos. Obama's base is totally out of control and O'Reilly has addressed this issue as documented on this site.
The rumors, lies and smear tactics of the leftwing's mouthpiece on the web is demeaning the process and Obama would be wise to take the opportunity, with a large moderate audience tuning in, to show his disgust. O'Reilly is a reasonable and objective person to give him that opportunity.
This interview will, once again, show FOX NEWS' vast superiority in informing the citizenry, over the democrat's propaganda stream at MSNBC. The chief Obama votary there, Keith Olbermann, will continue to twiddle his thumbs in New York while real journalists and more talented pundits, like O'Reilly, do the real work.

The comment section to the Politico piece includes the following:
---Campbell Brown ought to be fired. Either than or give her her own commentary show. She is not an objective journalist. She's pathetic!---
How amusing! We seem to forget that Brown was a huge Bushie in 2000. I don't know if that has since changed. We also seem to forget that the job of a journalist in a democracy (more or less) is to elicit information for us, the public. I don't see that she did anything but ask a perfectly legitimate question. It is hardly her fault Tucker was too flummoxed, so ill-prepared that he could not answer. Seems to be Campbell did us a great service. Some of the first reali journalism on a cable network I have seen in some time.

So, I am to take it, Sharon, to be impermissible to commend someone with whom I often disagree but who has done something I find commendable? So, if Doocy were helping a nun get a school bus of parochial students out of a rut so they could continue onwards to an outing at a museum, I would not be allowed to give him a pat on the back? Please excuse my obvious lack of understanding of civility and civil discourse, but the rules seem to have changed, and I must be confused.

Has anyone noticed a puzzling thawing in the relationship between Joe and Mika on Morning Joe.
Their body language has become intimate and they are cozy together-- like a couple.

The reason I cannot watch Campbell is not her political leanings, though I abhor them. It is her voice.
Whiney, fingernails-on-challboard.
I have given her a try, but that voice is a complete turn off.

i predicted from the beginning that she would be left in the dust of O'Reilly and Olbermann. She never had a chance.

Cecelia:
As much as I enjoy the show, the only morning show I do enjoy, I am finding the pairing troublesome. It interferes with the show itself. I have a hunch, based on nothing specific, that "Morning Joe" may not be around after the election. There is little but politics to commend it, anyway. Scarborough doesn't seem particularly rounded enough to offer up much else.

By "rounded" I meant the breadth and depth of knowledge to discuss a variety of subjects. I should have thought that abundantly clear from the context. I have yet to see that outside of politics, and possibly soccer, that Joe is able to converse.
What do Mika's political preferences have to do with this? I am totally lost.

I have my doubts that Bill OReilly is going to handle the interview well.
You know what he's going to do ? He's going to ask Barry a few moderately challenging questions, said with great respect, Obama is going to deny any and all wrong doing.. and demand that no one his staff doing anything bad.
And by doing so he will have the pressure taken off him.

Well, O'Reilly had to try to get Obama. Didn't have a choice.
Not after CNN smashed Fox News' ratings last week during the Dem convention.
Oh wait, Johnny didn't post any of the nightly ratings during the convention did he? The ones showing Fox way behind all of their competition?
Maybe because Dems don't watch Fox. Only rabid Republicans do.
Hence the Rasmussen poll "87% of Fox viewers support McCain".

I put this post up specifically so you could see a liar in action. Of course we linked to the ratings for every night of the convention--as we do for every day of the week. We also linked to the Pew poll that shows CNN's audience is nearly 3-1 Democratic, while Fox's is the most balanced.
Because the above poster attempted to lie about this site, we won't be seeing him again for a while.

The worst hit in that open mic piece is Todd. He had, until now, shown a pretty objective persona, but I guess the reputation of NBC NEWS remains intact. Information is just not enough, partisanship is too alluring, and easy.
I am not surprised about Murphy...he "looks" cynical. The skill of speaking out of both sides of his mouth was congenital.

Rewatched the Campbell Brown-Tucker Bound interview.
I would have liked to have seen one reporter grill one person on foreign policy from the Obama camp like that and I'm sure Hillary Clinton would have too.
That was the point in her campaign. That she was being treated far more roughly than Obama was treated.
Needless to say...Palin speech last night did not cause quite the euphoria to the MSNBC team that Obama's and Clinton's did at their convention.
There were no glowing sports analogies about big slams nor tingles up anyone's leg. The best we got was an off-handed remark from Chris Matthews that she gave a better speech than most of the people in congress and the spirit behind that remark was one more of irony rather than admiration for Palin's accomplishment.
The MSNBC (including Brian Williams of NBC) went immediately into Democratic strategist mode. Throwing out on the air every allegation against Palin that has made the internet and brainstorming about when and where they can put a mic in Palin's face and ask her who's the leader of Liechtenstein.
Yet another rite of passage...that the foreign policy expert Obama was spared...
The most grating thing about the MSNBC coverage was their whining over the "sarcasm" toward their gjuy Obama. Evidently, shots and sarcasm at party political conventions is only permissible when it's relentlessly aimed at Republicans by Keith Olbermann during his Master of ceremonies muggings.
This is yet another difference between coverages of both conventions, a popular topic of discussion then being the repeating of James Carville's remarks suggesting that the first night of the DNC convention was a waste because the most time should be spent swinging like hell at McCain.
Needless to say there were few objections to this philosophy then...

What you say, Cecelia, once one cuts through some gratuitous whining, may have some merit. I can whole-heartedly support that Senator Obama ought to have been and should still be thoroughly grilled. It is a shameful failing, one of many, of our cable, broadcast and print media during this long campaign. And, I suppose tonight may present that opportunity for grilling. I am not expecting that much, actually, as I tend to O'Reilly is transformed into a (Larry) King when he is one-on-one with anyone outside the industry and able to form rational thoughts and articulate those thoughts effectively. Nonetheless, I fail to see how your argument is advanced in a relativist/comparative mode. Should this not be an absolute standard for the media? As to all candidates? All the time?
I also think your MSNBC analysis is flawed. It seemed to me most of the analysts gave the speech a fair and positive blush. Isn't your real complaint that the analysis failed to characterize the speech as transformative (of our nation, of our approach to our political system and our society) in the same fashion as Senator Obama's speech? Should the two even be compared? Shouldn't the real test for the campaign, and more to the point, the media, be the standard for and the reaction to McCain's speech? Shouldn't MSNBC and other cable news networks have characterized the Palin speech for what it was, i.e. a typical vice-presidential acceptance speech, albeit better crafted, much better delivered and far better received by the delegates than most, largely attack dog with few if any specifics? Shouldn't the networks and analysts compare Senator Obama's speech to Senator McCain's speech? Isn't that the proper comparison? Shouldn't both speeches be analyzed on the tougher comparison of policy specifics?
Sorry for the interrogation, but it seems you have fallen into the MSNBC/the media is bad mode, a la the Talking Points provided. In my surfing last night, I felt all the networks were appropriately complimentary and critical of the speech in the context in which it was written and delivered. They didn't necessarily draw the same conclusions, but the processes were similar and appropriate. If you're purpose is to advanance campaign Talking Points, then I think you are at the wrong venue.

Mark, your point might have some validity had the media not spent the two days prior to Palin's speech talking of nothing else but the significance of McCain's VP choice as it relates to HIS insight, HIS desires, HIS tempament, HIS judgment, and even HIS narrative of being HIS own man.
In the unfolding of the frenzy that developed over the questions of McCain's vetting process-- in light of her "feeble" experience as being the governor of Alaska rather than Arkansas... Palin's performance was very much about the making or the breaking of McCain. That was clear.
As to the "transformative" nature of The Obama... as encapsulated in his "symphony" of a speech... We'll see if the country finds an identical hope in the story of a woman who rose from the rank of PTA chairman to governor of state. A woman who has done what so many women mean when they say "why can't we get a leader who's someone who's had to struggle and do the things I do" and in a team who has done anything but kowtow to their own side.
Yeah, Mark, it most certainly would have been nice had they been able to see a little bit of transcendence in THAT.

Peel away the contempt and condescension expressed about opponents, fair, but decidedly old politics, we have essentially two (2) speeches:
#1 - Me, me, me.
#2 - A nation's promise fulfilled.
The former may be effective on several levels and some people may identify with, be inspired by it on some relational level. Well and good.
I think the latter is transcendent.
One may get someone elected to office and maybe even motivate others to get involved in politics. Personal. The other raises us up and causes us, individually and corporately, to be much more than we are, to be everything we as individuals and a nation can be.
The media seems to have seen that distinction, and even if you can't or won't, I see what the media sees here.
And, I expect you are being harsh. The media clearly saw some transcendence here. Apparently not all you has sought, but I think the media is being extraordinarily kind.
