RE: MSNBC: worse than Fox!

What that blogger leaves out is that the FNC female talent seem to have a stronger voice, presence, and sense of their individuality, than their female cohorts at MSNBC and CNN.

Here's an interesting little fact I just read over at TVNewser about who got the most airtime in '08. Apparently NBC Nightly News had the most "balance"(amongst the networks) when it came to the number of stories on Obama and McCain. Fancy that...I'd have never thought that possible if I'd only gone on the info Fox dish up.

I wonder if Goal Post Gretchen will be reporting this finding on tomorrows F&F show.

That was the nickname she was called at school...she told viewers this morning.

Hey Haggy, I read the article too, and I can't help but notice they don't give the specifics. From TV Newser:

Actually, it was the top three stories. Tyndall breaks down the stories by candidate — 745 stories about Barack Obama, 531 about John McCain and 288 about Hillary Clinton. Of the three evening newscasts, NBC Nightly News had the most "balance" when it came to the number of stories on Obama and McCain.

Bottom Line - The networks are out of balance as a whole and we don't know the specifics about NBC. If you know them Haggy, tell us.

It's sort of like Haggy boasting about the results if he was voted the least offensive of the Newshounds trolls that visit here. In other words, like being named the toughest muppet.

I went back and looked at the Pew Study: The Color of the News.

NBC's was 54% negative to 17% postive in their stories on McCain.

In contrast NBC was 20% negative to 43% positive in it's stories about Obama.

Fox's coverage of McCain was 40% negative to 22% positive.

Fox's coverage of Obama was 40% negative to 25% positive.

Haggis, you started this with a comment on the politics of NBC broadcast news, which is not cable-news related (and something you obviously have little knowledge of, given that it's not broadcast in the UK). I let that pass, and Ashley responded. Now you want to come back and continue the non-cable-news talk. You made a point, Ashley responded, and since it's off-topic, it should end there. I'm sure you agree.

O'Reilly doesn't NEED to shift his target demo because he does so well where he is. I've been watching The Factor very regularly for 10 years, meaning I was 21 when I started. All those NHs who are waiting for Fox's "geriatric" or "octogenarian" audience to die off so Keith's ratings go up will be waiting a loooooooooong time. I know I'm not an exception to the rule either- many friends of mine have been watching FNC for years.

Johnny, I know this is off-topic, but I had to send you this Newswoofs update: They are getting ready to screen all their incoming comments and not even let the dissenting opinions make it onto the site anymore. They had been increasing their deletion (censorship) rate this past month anyway, but now the echo chamber is about to be closed.

Debate and dissent - going, going, gone. Keith Olbermann would be so proud of them.

You might want to hold off on your judgement of what the new moderation policy at NH will produce.

A recent article by J$ took NH to task for hurling the "racist" slur at FNC while allowing racist comments of some NH regulars to remain, unchallenged, on their comment threads.

Umm...I don't think they're putting this in to keep out their own bigoted comments. They say it's to keep out "trolls" - i.e. anybody who disagrees with them.

Evidently, you don't wish to withhold judgement. I believe your 10:43 pm is an overstatement of the intent of the moderation experiment and the "troll" definition you attribute to them, whoever "they" are, is not a universal NH opinion.

That of course depends on how you define debate and dissent.

If you define it as being the fun you say we should have had watching Haggis take on various identities, throw out charges he could only confirm via his own sock puppet, and claim mistreatment when called upon it, trolls must offer up a veritable Lincoln-Douglas scenario for you.

Enjoy, but know that higher standards are not synonymous with censorship.
