More Stupid Hound Tricks
They just keep coming, and we just keep reporting on them: the tricks, deceptions, and lies of the newshounds (another fine product of the Outfoxed crowd). Here are a couple more to add to the hundreds already documented, including one falsehood of phenomenal flagrance, even by newspups' "standards".
Stupid Hound Trick: The Incorrection
The purpose is to make Fox, or someone who appears on Fox, look wrong, stupid, or bad. To do so, the mutts "correct" something they said, using deceptive or false "proof". For example, Rove referred to something Obama said about his flag lapel pin, and the whippets used his quote thusly:
[Rove summarizing Obama's statement:] “True patriotism consists not of wearing a flag lapel pin but in speaking out on the issues.” That's not what Obama said. As The New York Times reported, “My attitude is that I’m less concerned about what you’re wearing on your lapel than what’s in your heart,” Mr. Obama told an audience here. “You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who served... I wore it right after 9/11,” Mr. Obama said. “But after a while, you start noticing people wearing a lapel pin, but not acting very patriotic. Not voting to provide veterans with resources that they need. Not voting to make sure that disability payments were coming out on time.”What the pooches did is find a different quote from Obama, and used that to prove "that's not what Obama said". That way they could ignore the actual Obama quote that Rove was talking about:
"Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq War, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security, I decided I won't wear that pin on my chest."They "correct" Rove and lambaste him for a statement that wasn't wrong in the first place. An "incorrection".
Now that you know how it works, here's another. This is regarding Laura Ingraham on The Factor (the same posting we noted previously regarding the "invisible man" trick). Here is Chrish's incorrection:
Ingraham added that Clinton is being criticized by economists for "her proposal to at least temporarily bring down the gas tax." As Ingraham well knows, the summer amnesty plan was McCain's idea and Clinton said (April 21 on Larry King Live) "I would also consider a gas tax holiday, if we could make up the lost revenues from the Highway Trust Fund.”The highlighting of "also consider" is Chrish's. She wants people to think this is just something Hillary was considering, and Ingraham was wrong to call it a proposal.
The Gullible:
- Whatever the Fox pundits say will be parroted as fact.
- Laura Ingram is a complete tool.
- Wonder if she goes to LA gay restaurants like homophobe Coulter?
To "prove" that Laura was "wrong", the whippets had to go all the way back to a Larry King show from April 21, nearly two weeks earlier. That was to avoid the fact that since then Clinton had adopted the gas tax plan as an official campaign proposal. It was no longer something she would "consider"--she put out a press release on April 28, three days before Ingraham accurately cited it. But the newspoodles ignored that and used an old quote to foist another incorrection on their credulous readers.
Stupid Hound Trick: The Phony Quote
We had a dandy example of quote doctoring on Tuesday, courtesy of Deborah:
FOX and Joe Leiberman Praise and Defend John HageeThe claim: "Fox" praised and defended Hagee by calling his actions "laudable".
Megan [sic] Kelly reported that John Hagee apologized to Catholics calling the apology a "reconciliation" with Catholics and praising the act as "laudible" [sic]
The Gullible:
- Of course, Hagee's conciliation with the Catholic League will be accepted by Fox.
- Hagee spews hate and his apology is "laudible" [sic]. Wright spews hate and his apology is not?
Deb (a documented liar) brazenly put words in Megyn Kelly's mouth that she never said:
KELLY:John Hagee apologizing today to Catholics for his cutting remarks about the Roman Catholic faith, which included calling the Catholic church "the great whore". Moments ago McCain responding to the reconciliation:Where did Megyn Kelly, or Fox, say the apology was "laudable"? They didn't. Where did Debbie get the idea that they did? She made it up! But don't take our word for it. Listen to the entire discussion and see if you can hear Megyn Kelly say Hagee was "laudable", or "praise" him in any way.
McCAIN: The fact that he has made an apology I think is very helpful. Whenever someone apologizes for something they did wrong, then I think that that's a laudable thing to do.
Deborah's deception is what it is: Another Hound Lie. fox news nh
Fox Fan
Another great job shoving the hounds' noses in their own misplaced feces!

Just a general comment on the whole flag-pin issue.I recall during the Vietnam era that displaying of the flag became synonymous with support for the war,and for Nixon.I can't speak for Sen Obama, but I myself have felt some ambivalence about flag pins and such conveying support for the policies of the Bush Administration.
And a brief suggestion,Mr Dollar. When you post about newshounds, could you include the title and date of the post you are writing about.Thanx.

Well, evidently, Obama decided to embrace that ole hick-based, war supporting, love-it-or-leave-it patriotism in all its W.Va glory.
Wonder if he REALLY compromised and drank instant coffee with whole cows milk...

I have grown 'kid" singular (in every sense of the world).
I think the flag pin thing is significant for a guy whose chief claim to being presidential material is that he won't be playing "politics as usual".

I think you are really exagerating when you say " a guy whose chief claim to being presidential material is that he won't be playing "politics as usual"."There is much more to Sen obama than that, though that is part of the appeal he is making,as is John "Straight Talk" Mccain.
I wouldn't criticize Sen Mccain for eating pizza in an Italian nieghborhood, why would you criticize Sen Obama for wearing a flag pin to address veterans?

I don't know... has McCain stated that pizza eating has become some sort of emblem for Cindy Sheehan type war critics, let alone based his candidacy on being a "new" sort of politician who would not be engaging in the "old" sort of politics?

I'm really not sure what you are trying to get at here.Politicians use symbols that they are 'one of us'.The examples are deep, and thick.Hillary having a shot and a beer,McCain trying to sing the beach Boys. Are flag pins really anything but a symbol?Must we scrutinize who is,or is not wearing one>And if we are, then should not the same scrutiny be applied to all in the public sphere? And what does Cindy Sheehan have to do with pizza.
As for new vs old politics,I see the past 7 years as being among the most divisive times I have ever experienced in this country."If you're not with us,you're against us" has extended into everyday life.If I don't want the Bible taught in public schools,I'm anti-christian,if I don't oppose gays marying, then I'm anti-family,and if I don't support holding prisoners indefinetly outside of the Geneva Convention and the Constitution then I am with the terrorists.
Obama's speeches speak of how the red state people and the blue state people all want the same thing for their families. His Philadelphia speech on race was the most honest telling of the picture of race relations in this country that I have heard in years. And I believe that this is what he means when he speaks of a 'new' politics.A politics of unity, not division. And a politics of 'real' actions, not a politics of symbols.

Well, you're certainly welcomed to you opinion on Obama, nvh, but like taste, there's no accounting for opinions either...
What about this-- if I'm not for gay marriage or even hate crime law, I want gays driven out their jobs and killed like Mathew Shepard.
If I want schools to be able to have prayer at graduation programs, depending on the druthers of their individual communities, I want fanatical religious indoctrination. If I want terrorists to be treated as something other than common criminals, I want to revoke the U.S. Constitution.
There's plenty of "this or that" thinking to go around on both sides, and if you think that people who don't want nationalized health care won't be described by the Obama Campaign as being selfish at best, in the pocket of vested interests at worst, then you're naive.
Your comparison McCain eating pizza at a local pizzeria is not analogous to Obama wearing a flag pin. McCain never described pizza eating as being emblematic for something as Obama described that wearing flag pins had become an emblem for a shallow sort of patriotism to him. By
McCain does not trade limited experience (that's not the case for him) with a promise of being a "different" sort of politician who will effect a different sort of political culture. Obama does, it is his chief answer to why he should be elected, and one that you just passionately reiterated here.
When Obama then goes out and defies his own words by pandering to a certain audience by doing precisely what he had labeled as shallow before, that IS significant. You may say that McCain does it too, did it first....does it worse.whatever... but that is moot as to whether flag pin episode was just "silliness" as you described.

Hey,I can see my house from up here.
No,really, you guys are the ones who expressed indignation about Hitler and O'Reilly appearing in the same video. Now,I personally didn't see an attempt in that little You-tube creation to link O'Reilly to racial cleansing, war,or any other Nazi policy.I saw comedy. It would have been just as funny with Olberman in the starring role if he had had a meltdown.
But perhaps you missed my point. If it is morally repugnant to place O'Reilly's image in a video clip with Hitler, even if the intent was comedy, then it is certainly wrong to say Barrack HUSSIEN Obama with the intent of linking him with Saddam Hussien.John Mccain has even acknowledged that, and you don't even have the intent of comedy to fall back on.

Whether you "see comedy" or you don't see it, is no proof of anything whatsoever. You are not the arbiter of what is funny.
My "intent" was to do a comedic parody of Obama's name.
I had feeling that you wouldn't find a direct play on identical names as funny as say... bulging neck vein similarities...

That's the point, nvh. And O'Reilly has been called a Nazi.
If Obama's name happened to be Reagan and I parodied that by referring to him as "Ronald Reagan" (meaning no comparison of anything other than their name), I doubt anyone would be offended. However, if Obama's last name was Nixon and I did that, it could suggest something quite different to quite a few people.
Comparing public figures with mass murders, dictators, or even someone of infamy such as Nixon, (though you may merely be suggesting that they have similar temper tantrums or you are simply making a play on a name) automatically carries a very inflammatory implication.
You may find it just all in good fun and benignly intended when your ox isn't being Gored (pun intended...), but frankly you're intentionally waving away all commonsense.

Well, perhaps I can see your sensitivity in light of Mr O'Reilly being called a Nazi.I don't think the intent was a comparison of anything but bombastic gestures and expressions, but my point remains that the intent was comedic, and the effect, for me,would be the same if the 'star'of the clip had been Olberman,James Carville,Pat Buchanon, or anyone else with a reputation of pomposity.
As for my ox being Gored,I saw an episode of Pinky and the Brain set in the 100 acre wood, with Brain as Winnie. They want to use a balloon to get to the bees in the honey tree.To inflate the balloon, they go see the Algore, who spouts a string of policy wonkspeak to inflate the balloon.I found it quite funny. There are no sacred cows.

Wasn't an analogy, just an example of how I try to laugh at funny stuff, regardless of who gets Gored. But it's gotta be funny.
A subtheme of "The Producers" was that a Jewish guy could represent Hitler as the pompous buffoon that he was.The audience was stunned, then, seeing the humor, laughed uproariously.
But perhaps it's too soon for some to laugh.Oh,well.truth be told,I don't take people calling O'Reilly or Bush Nazis any more seriously than I take "Fascist Liberals".It's just too far from the truth to have any significance to me.The equivalent of calling someone poopyhead,it say's more about the accuser than the target.
But really,do you object to Hitlery with the same vehemence?I mean, that's just an insult. It doesn't even try to be funny.

nvh, now why are you issuing a truth test to me, when by your own argument, I'm not sure how you can insist that the designation "Hitlery" isn't an attempt to be funny?
After all, someone could use the term within the context that when speaking, Hitler and Hillary have similarly (and comically) engorged neck veins.

Sorry, nvh, an episode of a cartoon satirizing Algore as a blow hard does not quite reach the level of KO walking onto a stage holding a life sized cut out of BOR's face while giving the Sieg Hiel to the audience.
You have given several examples trying to prove that the curs at Hews Hounds are just a merry bunch ready to good naturedly laugh at everything and everyone without once giving an equivalent example equating one individual with Hitler, Ilsa (who was based on an actual SS officer) or Laura Inghram which you can read for yourself.
All Cecelia has done was to use your justification for them to make similar comments and for some reason you don't seem able to see the jocularity.
Might I suggest that is b/c your attempt to explain away their viciousness is not a justification for Cecelia's example amy more than it is for them.
You seem to have seen the point without being able to assimilate it.
Didn't getting hoisted by your own petard have any effect on you?

I went to grade school with a girl named Cynthia Pickle. At the time I thought it was funny to tease her.I wouldn't anymore.
But seriously, are you arguing that people are saying Hitlery as an attempt to be funny?I don't think Hillary has bulging neck viens (of course,I've never seen her mad)And even if you thought they were attempting to be funny, arn't you offended by that?
OK,Grammie,I concede that the Ilsa comments were over the top, vulgar, and really not funny.I hadn't seen the "pissing on him"part.I'll take your word for the movie link. But how did I get promoted to defending newshounds.
And where does KO's doings come into this. You are making an illogical leap to think that I'm defending a KO clip that I haven't seen and never heard of until you brought it up.
I thought we started talking about O'reilly's dramatic debut.I have already stated several times that I think the linkage of people, left or right, with the Nazis is inappropriate and wrong. And I've given my opinion about the humor of the O'Rielly.
And I'll ask you also,Grammie. If you react so strongly to the O'reilly clip,do you have the same visceral reaction to "Hitlery".
Funny,I don't feel hoist. However,I do feel I'm being turned into a strawman.Suddenly I'm accused of justifying KO and every comment on Newshounds.

Nvh, I did not bring up KO's use of Naziism re BOR b/c I thought you owed BOR an apology or you were tarred with the same brush. I brought it up b/c it is just one point on the continumn of your excusing such behavior in the name of jocularity and you have mentioned "Hitlery" several times. Wherever they come from I think they are all over the top.
No, I don't think "Hitlery" is funny, I don't think it should be used and I don't use it myself. But then again I don't think ChristoNazi, Reich Wing, Chimpy etc is funny and I don't use it either.
"But seriously, are you arguing that people are saying Hitlery as an attempt to be funny?I don't think Hillary has bulging neck viens (of course,I've never seen her mad)And even if you thought they were attempting to be funny, arn't you offended by that?"
No! I am not arguing that but you argued that the dubbed BOR video was funny and originally insisted that "Ilsa" was a bit extreme but was still meant as humour that I didn't understand.
Cecelia took your argument and used it to justify the same behavior except against a lib and you just can't see the humour. The whole point is that neither Cecelia nor I see the humour in any of it while you still cling (good Obama word) to claiming that the NHs were essentially being humorous.
"I thought we started talking about O'reilly's dramatic debut."
If I remember correctly you responded to a comment I made about the sick comments at NH re Greta and defended their statements as perhaps a bit extreme but really just a big joke. BOR came into the conversation b/c I mentioned that I was ashamed to have originally laughed at the dubbed video interspersed with Hitler.

"while you still cling (good Obama word) to claiming that the NHs were essentially being humorous."
I don't cling,I suggested.I may be wrong, but I don't think the intent was to link anyone to nazis.I also didn't say it was funny.I once listened to Howard Stern, and I didn't find him funny at all.
I AM NOT DEFENDING IT.
"Cecelia took your argument and used it to justify the same behavior except against a lib"
Cecilia did not offer a good analogy. And I've already stated, twice I think, that given the same circumstances, with the starring role played by Olberman,or "Corporal Cueball"(James Carville),or Pat Buchanon, that I'd have the same response,ie laugh.
Now I was only on-line once at NH when you were there, and you may recall that I (and Peggy)defended you.I become frustrated there often because of a knee-jerk response of SOME to any implied opposition. But there are good people there.
"I don't think "Hitlery" is funny, I don't think it should be used and I don't use it myself. But then again I don't think ChristoNazi, Reich Wing, Chimpy etc is funny and I don't use it either."
Thank you for posting that.I agree with you.Now we can continue to go around about Mr O'Rielly,or we can have a reasonable discussion about divisive political language or anything else.I think we've talked this into the ground.
