Great link to "The Martha's Vineyards Times".Although I have no doubt that "The Times" has access to more resources (and people) than your average small circulation paper,it still is an good example of the work being done by print journalists at a thousand small papers.

I've always been fascinated with the geology of Martha's Vineyards.I'd venture to guess that many residents aren't cognizant that the island is a terminal morraine plowed up by a glacier, with all the permanence of a child's sandcastle.Does this effect important people's musings about their legacy? But no matter.

I've never caught any of Ms Liasson's work on Fox.How does she do?

I'm certain that I've heard her many times on NPR.So she seems to be accomplishing what she desires professionally.

"Ms. Liasson is of the school of opinion that holds that journalists should ask the questions, rather than answer them."

Thus, although as a regular NPR listener, I'm certain I have heard her reports hundreds of times, there is not one piece of news that I could ascribe to her personally. Her opinions and her personality are not important, the facts of the news ARE important.

Another point where I strongly agree with her:

"Now, a question on politics: If NBC and NPR favor liberal views and FOX favors the other end of the spectrum, is it wrong to say so? "I am a real antediluvian in this respect. I really try to keep the (very few) opinions I hold out of my reporting. But if a news organization (and I disagree with your assumption about NPR) decides to just go for it and plant itself at one end of the spectrum or another, yes they should admit it."

Note that although she contests the 'liberal' designation of NPR, she does not contest the 'other end of the spectrum' designation of Fox.

"Yes, they should admit it".

Note that although she contests the 'liberal' designation of NPR, she does not contest the 'other end of the spectrum' designation of Fox.

Does she believe that if an organization is on one side of a political spectrum or another they should admit it? Her answer: Yes.

Does either NPR or Fox condede that they are on one side of the political spectrum or not? No.

Is she then critical of NPR or Fox for not admitting something she says that they should admit? Her answer: No.

Why? Because she won't concede that either NPR or Fox stand on one side of the political spectrum or the other.

A fair and objective reading of the article will only yield the conclusions I have just summarized . . . no more. As is your wont, you try to read your wild accusations and biases into material, when it is absolutely not there . . . even when, in fact, the opposite of what you say is clearly implied.

Are you really this obtuse? Or, are you simpling spewing more nonsense to be deliberately disruptive?

"Does either NPR or Fox condede that they are on one side of the political spectrum or not? No"

What does Fox conceding have to do with anything. They either are or they aren't "at the other end of the spectrum", whether they admit it or not.

"Is she then critical of NPR or Fox for not admitting something she says that they should admit?"

Why would she be critical of NPR? She states " and I disagree with your assumption about NPR".In other words, she contests the assumption that NPR is 'liberal'.

Is she critical of Fox?Well, I guess that would depend on your assesment of the sentence "But if a news organization (and I disagree with your assumption about NPR) decides to just go for it and plant itself at one end of the spectrum or another, yes they should admit it." within the context of the interview. She does not EXPLICITLY state that "FOX favors the other end of the spectrum". I think it is a fair asumption of her meaning.You,apparently,disagree.

So what do you think of Ms Liasson's view of the role of a reporter in keeping her opinion out of reporting?Have you ever seen her on Fox?

(Are you really this obtuse? Or, are you simpling spewing more nonsense). And have you learned your discussion skills from Herr O'Reilly?

Have you ever seen her on Fox?

Well yeah. My suspicions that you did not rally read the article mount after reading your question.

The article says that Maria often appears on Fox as a panelist. I believe that is true. She often is on Fox News Sunday as one of a panel of commenters. However, the article also suggests that Maria has a stronger relationship with NPR and is more identified with NPR than she is with Fox.
That may help to explain why she answered the way she did. Her major concern is NPR and not Fox.

She does have a relationship (a more tenuous relationship, but a relationship nonetheless)with Fox. That in itself (without evidence to the contrary) implies approval of the Fox News organization.

Do you have any knowledge of when Maria has at any time criticized Fox for not admitting that they tilt too far to the right?

If you don't, then everything you said is unfounded, unsubstantiated and patent nonsense. You are, in fact, trying to make Maria's words the opposite of what they implied.

If I had learned from BOR, my response to you would have obviously been more brilliant more insightful and more objective and more even tempered than it actually was. BOR is a great communicator and I am not sure that I deserve to be put in the same category as him. I also note that you take every opportunity to take unfair cheap shots at the FNC and at their hosts. And I resent it.

I am extremely annoyed with you. Partially I am irritated with your past behavior, and I am annoyed because I think that you are smarter than you are demonstrating.

You know that what you said is absolutely nonsensical. You are only spewing that nonsense to be disruptive, and I really dislike what you are doing,.

NVH, she is also on Brit Hume's program during the week. They rotate panelists, so it's hard to say what night she'll be on.

She seems like a nice woman, but rarely says anything incediary. So if she wants to be associated w/NPR moreso than with FNC, that's fine.

I am in a real lousy mood today, thinking that with the help of the MSM (TV network channels, specifically, the Lord Messiah Obama may actually win the election!

Let's hope cable and other (internet) media can keep things straight with all of his reversals. McCain, whom I really don't like, should listen to all of the pundits we see each night. Morris and Rove should actually be working for him and offering him advice, lest the Messiah actually win the election. God help us.

If I wanted to be disruptive, trust me,you would know it.

"I also note that you take every opportunity to take unfair cheap shots at the FNC and at their hosts. And I resent it."

I guess cheap shots are in the eye of the beholder. But some people make themselves larger targets than others.

What is the deal here.Whenever I say that I think Fox slants to the right, some people react like I accused Fox anchors of drowning kittens.

As for NPR and 'bias', that is what Ms Liasson said.

"That in itself (without evidence to the contrary) implies approval of the Fox News organization."

How do you come to this certainty? Have you never worked for an organization you did not like.Have you never tried to improve an organization? She was hired to provide a semblance of balance, one would assume.Perhaps she participates in Fox panels to contribute what she believes is the truth.I don't know and NIETHER DO YOU.But on cannot go from 'she works there' to 'she must approve'.And even if she does approve, that does not mean that she believes that Fox is "Fair and Balanced.

"You are, in fact, trying to make Maria's words the opposite of what they implied."

Can you quote the words that would lead you to that conclusion.

Now here's a challange for you Danny.I've said nothing about you personally in this post.Do you think you can do the same.

NVR,

I know damn well that you have been disruptive. You constantly try to bait people into talking politics instead of what we are supposed to be talking about. When I brought up a citation (only because you accused me of making an assertion I could not substantiate) you repeatedly tried to draw me and others into a political debate. When that did not work, you started going down items in the Secretary General's report one by one and said, I think cable news should talk about this item. I think cable news should talk about this item.

You harangue the host of this site over nothing . . . even questioning his honesty. You even find a way to bring crustaceans and matters pertaining to atomic weight into the conversation when those subjects have nothing to do with what we have talked about or even are supposed to be talking about.

You said that I would know if you are being disruptive. And you are right. I know damn wel that you have and are being deliberately disruptive and I don't like it. Stop itt!!!

With regard your nonsensical point: Especially under the circumstances that she answered the question . . . there is no way for you to rationally draw the inference you did. Maria was in a hurry. More more of her professional identity is tied to NPR than to Fox. I daresay she spends much time defending NPR from its critics. Criticism of NPR for being too liberal is an especially sensitive isssue because NPR could lose its funding if that view becomes too widely accepted. That would mean that she would lose both her professional identity and her job.

It is a huge leap in logic for you to assume that because she said nothing about Fox that she was being critical of Fox. She did say that news networks who tilt one way or should admit it. She knows damn well that Fox does not concede that it tilts one way or another. Still she expresses no criticism of Fox either in that article or anywhere else that you have shown. For you to make the huge logical leap that you did is just absurd and really stupid.

I was careful not to say in my previous post that a person's working for an organization is absolute proof that they approve of an organization. However, more often than not people tend to work for organizations that they like. This is especially true if they are under no financial hardship. Therefore, what I said in my post was that if a person works for an organization that we must presume that the person likes the way the organization is run . . . unless we have evidence to the contrary. Since you have shown no real non-fanciful evidence that Maria is disaffected with Fox in any way, the presumption stands.

The argument that you are making is absurd and stupid. You know that it is absurd and stupid. You are not that dumb. Cut it out!

Alright Vince.I know it's O/T and I know exactly what you think, but here goes.I watched the video a long time ago.

War is a terrible thing.War is full of violence and death for both sides, even if you 'win',you've lost something.War is full of unintended consequences, and USUALLY doesn't turn out the way you thought it would (see Iraq,Vietnam,Korea,Afghanastan). What would be the blowback, with Russia, with China,Pakistan,Shia Iraqis, the Iranians themselves.

I believe that war is always the absolutely last choice that should be made. And I question anyone who seems to flippantly advocate it.

It is possible to negotiate with a self-serving,disengenuous adversary.Indeed it has been done many times. I was young, but I remember the Cuban Missile Crisis, which was successfully resolved by JFK,over the wishes of the JCS,who wanted to bomb.Thinking like yours, and we would still be living in the rubble.

Yes, we can negotiate with Iran,.In fact, I understand that the Administration just recently began a move in that direction. There is no gaurentee of success, but there is none in war either. So yes, I believe in negotiating with our enemies.

Are you in favor of war?

It was good to hear your take, vstol. I worked in live TV, but only for C.W. Post's campus TV station. But any live situation can be hectic behind the scenes. I hosted live radio shows at WCWP and WGBB. I ran my own [mixing] board, but it can get pretty hectic during PSA/promo breaks. Plus, if you leave the studio to go to the bathroom or talk to others in the building, I always made sure I was back in the studio with a minute or so left in whatever song I was playing.

Gee, I wonder why he didn't include that. Very telling.

I'm leaving the post up because it says a lot about someone who would gloat that tabloid prisons and perverts shows get so many viewers against actual news coverage. Keep that in mind next time he expresses an opinion on cable news. He prefers tabloid.

You left off the last line so people wouldn't read it. Then you insinuated that the ratings info wouldn't have been available here unless you posted it yourself, which is of course false--it was linked days ago, when it was fresh.

1. It should not be a matter of power. As a new show, without an established format or rundown, the production crew should go overboard to make sure things run relatively smooth and the host is comfortable.

2. I doubt if she was allowed to bring in her radio producer as anything other than a PA. It's a studio tech crew.

3. My guess, lots of experienced production staff were on vacation. People move up a notch or two and the lower positions are manned by unsupervised interns. There are no unimportant jobs on a live set. The guy watching the door has a job to do. Teleprompter op is a low level position, but if it's fouled up, the show can go in the tank faster than a heart attack, or with a pro like Laura, the on-air is salvaged and the viewer doesn't suspect anything is wrong.

4. I still maintain Laura did not "come on too strong" to a staff "that was not really loyal to her and had no reason to be." There is an old saying, "The show's the thing." Loyalty is owed to "the show," and anyone who doesn't deliver won't last in broadcasting, no matter how much they kiss ass or who their Daddy is.

PS-
Johnny, I'm not sure if I would be called a "fan" or not, but I am sure you weren't "trying to score points."

vstol,

Thanks for your insight. Good to hear from someone who has worked on a show.
