I'm no Tonia Ryman, but that fmr SF police commissioner had some typical SF arrogance in the way he shook his head when he talked.

His entire argument had no foundation- he says that it's the federal government's fault in not cooperating that poor ol' SF couldn't process the "minors" (there is much questioning on the actual minor status of these folks). SF passed their "sanctuary city" law in 1989, saying that it wouldn't cooperate with the feds on illegal immigration matters. Pray tell, who isn't cooperating with who?

He flat out lied about there only being two people who were flown out.

From http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/06/28/MNCU111QM7.DTL&tsp=1

>Federal immigration authorities stumbled on to the effort when they caught several illegal immigrants in December at the airport in Houston, along with a San Francisco juvenile probation officer.

>On May 15, two more illegal immigrants from Honduras were arrested in Houston, again accompanied by a San Francisco juvenile probation officer. Federal immigration authorities held the officer for more than three hours before releasing him.

The article continues to explain that the "minors" often had beards and that it was an ongoing practice of the city to ship out offenders, not "two subjects" as the lying haughty San Franciscan indicated.

The Olbermann/Huffington Post piece raises an interesting point for me. I am constantly being told by my son of Bircher friends that Olbermann is the great liberal voice in the wilderness. As I have said before, I never see or hear that from liberals. However, in my experience, Huffington Post is a resource, an anthology that virtually every liberal accesses. It is an immensely popular site. And, the Huffington Post has some sort of issue going with Olbermann. Does this suggest anything to anybody? I think it ought. What it ought to suggest is that Olbermann's popularity is far more the result of novelty, entertainment value, righties wanting to get angry than it is the result of dedicated political liberals.

Are you suggesting that Democrats/Liberals display more independent thinking and diversity of opinion than Republican/Conservatives,who have Fox, and Rush and his ilk to assure that everyone is on the same page?

Weren't the differences to which you referring personal differences rather than policy differences? For example, is any aversion to Olbermann among liberals really based on some political position he has taken ? Or, is it because they don't like the guy personally?

That was the clear inference, NVH, but knowing Mr. Sucks' writing proficiency, or alarming lack thereof, he may have just botched it. Usually does.

And, when did "liberal" become a party? Does Mr. Sucks think he is in England? Tea and crumpets, Mate? A bit of clotted cream with the scone?

Thanks for the piece on Todd, Johnny. My enthusiasm for him is immense. So knowledgeable, so understandable and so pleasant. Best thing to happen to cable news in years. I have even gotten to the point I'll endure Olbermann and Tweetie just to be able to listen to Todd.

OTM.

I love the way that you use terms like "clear" and "indisputable" when what you are saying is not "clear" or "indisputable" at all.

Sometimes when you use those type of terms . . . the opposite of what you are saying is what is clear or indisputable. That was, of course, the case yesterday.

As Ashley rightly suggested, grossly inappropriate use of those absolutist terms makes you look pretentious (andi I would add) pompous and downright foolish. If I were you I would be more careful.

By the way, while we are lavishing expressions of appreciation, thank Ring-a Ring-a Dong Ding the next time you see him, which I am sure will be momentarily, for the exposition of my pomposity. You are wrong on so many levels . . . it's just mind boggling.

OS said absolutely nothing about the Republican party, nor should he have. Whether the Republican party is or is not in greater disarray than the Democrats is beside the point and it is off topic (It's a debate I would not mind having, but it is off topic nonetheless).

This forum is not supposed to be a political discussion; rather it is supposed to be about cable news. The reason OS was on topic was because he was discussing the disarray between Olbermann (host of a cable news show) and other liberals/Democrats.

The dissension of which OS spoke did not seem to be policy differences, but were based on personality.

For a thousand reasons: Far from clearly being a valid inference, NVH's comment was a non sequiter. and it came out of nowhere. Evan if it were a valid inference (which it was not) it would have been off topic anyway.

Make whatever disparaging remarks about OS that you may . . . at least he showed the intelligence to stay on topic. Neither you or NVH demonstrated that basic intelligence.

Todd will wise up and join Fox News.
---
Not going to happen for a variety of reasons:

With NBC news exposure alone, Todd can get more than 20 times the exposure he would on FNC during the same relevant time slots. With MSNBC added, and he appears on both, often back-to-back, even more .... The very small world of cable news. Why would he take such a cut in audience numbers?

At NBC, Todd is supernova. Would he be at FNC? Probably not, and he might have to appear with Doocy and Carlson.

At FNC, Todd would likely be on with Hume, and Todd would not be a likely candidate to advance the Hume agenda.

At FNC, Todd might be on a panel with Kristol, and that would only make Kristol appear even more wrong-headed than he is. I don't think that would be tolerated.

Would would happen with Barone? I doubt anyone else is interested in someone droning on and on and never looking at the camera.

Rove and Davis.

Congratulations, however, for being on topic and writing clearly. There is a soft spot in my heart for you, and I knew you could do it!

Mark,

Why do you insist on playing stupid? No one said the topic is what you said (whatever it was that you were trying to write). The topic is cable news; not a purely political discussion. What part of cable news is the topic do you not understand?

Far from being afraid to discuss your topic: I would love to debate you on the subject of whether there is more diversity of opinion in the Republican Party than in the Democratic party. I would kill you in that debate. Unfortunately, it is off topic. If you weren't so busy playing stupid, you would likely acknowledge that point.

Also, your making up childish nick names for everyone you disagree with is silly and childish. I suppose I could return the compliment and call you dum dum, because you are IMHO playing dumb. However, I really don't want to descend to your level.

I am asking you nicely to discontinue the practice. If you are really 10 years old, that kind of juvenile antic might be appropriate. In that case you should find a forum designed for that age group. NH comes to mind. Please don't do it here.

No, Johnny. I don't think MSNBC's guests are required to advance an agenda, even when the hosts do have a discernible agenda, as Olbermann does. I think Todd has more pull with MSNBC than Olbermann does. In some hierarchy, I'd put Todd, despite his virtual rookie status, below Williams and Brokaw, but above virtually everyone else. He makes his own agenda, which is hard political analysis.

I would like to see someone like Todd welcome at FNC. I think a Smith, a VanSustern, a few others would welcome him. I think Hume would not. Hume needs a stiff like Barone.

HF,

It may surprise you, but I did not disagree with much of what Rangel said.

However, before we get too giddy about the reality produced by that segment . . . there are a couple issues I wish the interviewer had brought up.

For example: Does not the fact that McCain endured gallantly the unimaginable torture as well as he did, suggest something about his mental toughness? Isn't mental toughness a valuable quality for a president to have?

Does not the fact that McCain refused to leave Hanoi Hilton as quickly as he could suggest something about the strength of his loyalty to others? Isn't that kind of self sacrificial loyalty a quality we like to see in a president?

I would have also liked to see her challenge Rangel on the idea that being shot in battle is analogous to being a POW for several years.

In my view, the Fox interviewer was too easy on Rangel. However, this interview once again disproves any notion that Fox is goes easy on (R)s and tough on (D)s.

Danny, although I am sure that you are well aware that OTM {AKA Mrs Adrian R Philby, Clucker, Matt Schultz, Rudy Ramirez, Kurt Kissel to name a few} has no intentions of doing the honorable thing as you correctly defined it I thought you might like the full scoop on this. I'll be glad to fill you in on anything else that you are curious about also.

"By contrast, Olbermann at MSNBC, is as unfair and unbalanced as O'Reilly and Hannity. I despise him as much as I do O'Reilly and Hannity."
On The Mark | 03.27.08 - 7:57 am |

"I was following a link to KO

http://thank-you-keith-olbermann...- countdown.html

and came acroos this:

" I think he's really hit a nerve, and hsi detractors are feeling some heat. Has anyone taken a look at Olbermann Watch lately? A complete purge. If you criticize FOX or agree with Olbermann, you're gone. Stalinistic group is Cox, Dollar and the infamous gang of four over there.
On The Mark | 02.08.08 - 3:13 pm | # "

Johnny, don't you want to exercise some of those "Stalinistic" tactics and tell On The Mark "you're gone. "

He has criticized Fox. So, by his own calumny, you must banish him to the desert.
Grammie | 04.02.08 - 4:09 pm | # "

Philby replied with this third version of his thoughts and opinions:

"I shouldn't be all that certain that anyone has learned anything about OTM by virtue of the 4:09 post except, perhaps, the reason a number of people left OW preemptively, long before the temporary shutdown, and the poster in question is 20% of the reason.

Sorry for the diversion, but I enjoy this site far too much to see it be tranished.
On The Mark | 04.02.08 - 4:27 pm | # "

J$ called him on it as did I:

"Well which is it? Did people "leave" OlbyWatch because they didn't like the discussion? Or were they banished in a Stalinist purge?

Do you "despise" Olbermann as much as you do O'Reilly and Hannity, as you said here just recently? Or is your opinion of Olbermann expressed by what you post at the Olby fan site?

OTM, you are entitled to hold whatever views and opinions you choose. And as long as you follow the rules you are welcome, encouraged even, to express them here. But sometimes it can be hard to keep things straight. Can you please pick a position and stick to it?
johnny dollar | Homepage | 04.02.08 - 4:42 pm | # "

" I shouldn't be all that certain that anyone has learned anything about OTM by virtue of the 4:09 post except, perhaps, the reason a number of people left OW preemptively, long before the temporary shutdown, and the poster in question is 20% of the reason."

Half of 4:09 are words straight from the horse's mouth. What did you say in that comment at a KO fan site that is not representative of you?

I also see that you didn't answer Johnnies' question as to which comment you meant. I also would like to know if you are accusing me and others as being party to a Stalinistic purge or are you accusing me and others as being so poisonous as to drive people away in droves? Or are you so magnificently nuanced that I can't understand you at all?
Grammie | 04.02.08 - 5:21 pm | # "

Having stayed away briefly Rudy used some pretext to resume commenting and in spite of my copying the above comments and requesting an answer he simply stated that he declined to answer our questions and went on about his supercillious, didactic and pretentious way here.

"Rangel is national treasure. So wise. So grounded. So articulate. Do you notice how he talked to Gretchen on her level? Conversationally. Respectfully. Rather simple sentences. No technical language. Good morning show etiquette on any morning show."

...

"I prefer the notion of national service, including military, urban and conservation work, Peace Corps like activities. Service to the nation in a supreme honor, one of the facets of my life about which I am the proudest."

...

Degrading Carlson is honorable? As you have said, she co-anchors a morning show. She doesn't do an in-depth one on one interview for a lengthy period of time as a Charlie Rose would. Preparation time is not the same nor the focus of the interview. I think a Laura Ingraham would probably fire away in a much more intense style, but then, you would say something similar about her.

...
The Republicans mightily trashed such heroes as Cleland, Duckworth and Kerry, others as well, without batting an eye. In fact, relishing every moment.

Cleland:

Bless him for his service to our country, but his injury was not combat related. He was used in the spotlight because of the image he presents as a disabled veteran. I don't blame him for not reiterating at every appearance the circumstances of his injury. He served and has a right to promote that service as an indication of his character. But comparisons to P.O.W. experiences are not valid. If you have ever heard McCain speak about his experiences, he focuses on the valor of his comrades, some of whom who never wavered. One man repeatedly kept making tiny flags from whatever resources he could find, no matter the consequences. But the media coverage of McCain is so limited now that he isn't opposing Bush, you'll never know these kind of facts. Just his gaffes which are no worse than Obama's.

The bigger question is: What are your current names? The answer, of course, is your names are the names of any posters who disagree with the prevailing philosophy. I hope that makes things less confusing for you. At its genesis, there is and can only be one person who disagrees with this prevailing philosophy, so, as you can see, this is more convenient for everyone. Truth, honesty and civility be damned.

You really not ought be so gross nicknamed person.

By the way, I change computers providers and IP addresses, and I mistakenly let "OTM" remain on the old one. I have now changed that.

Of course, by real reason for changing computers is not because I am at a different physical address, but to delude the key eye and memory of others.

I am sure Senator Cleland is every bit as distraught he didn't sustain his injuries in combat as you are. Goodness. I am speechless at such a comment!

Apparently you weren't that speechless. I think I'll have to examine the word distraught while I sip some green tea. I may experience an epiphany.

What do you mean by that Mark? Explaining your alias doesn't exactly delude anyone...

I'm not too sure what this means either. This inquiring mind wants to know, but I'll have to find out your answer later... Must explore that big crazy "outside" for a couple of hours.

"Grammie:

Thank you for yet another delusional walk down your very long Memory Lane. A shame you burdened yourself with so much superfluous luggage, but it seems to be a trait you share with a few others. Perhaps some romp to matryrdom. And, although you never once hit on anything even remotely topical, I am sure the revisionist past is much more beautiful than the original stroll could ever be. For that, I share in your joy."

Who is being delusional here, Clucker? J$ and I asked you a question based on your own words taken in context. We have commented about your words to you several times. Surely you are not maintaining that you are delusional and therefore not responsible for your own words?

"By contrast, Olbermann at MSNBC, is as unfair and unbalanced as O'Reilly and Hannity. I despise him as much as I do O'Reilly and Hannity."

Sorry for the diversion, but I enjoy this site far too much to see it be tranished.

I am you are speaking of Mrs. Hawkins and not Sharon, Man With Only a Nickname, since Sharon, although I often disagree with her, does not babble, incoherently or otherwise.

Speaking of and not to Mrs Hawkins: I don't think I have ever done
anything to "tranish" it either, Mrs. Hawkins. In fact, I have upheld very high standards here. I am proud of my positions and my comments. Part of my vigilance is to guard again people bringing their grossly excessive baggage on board. It is a constant battle, but one I am willing to undertake.

I too am very happy with the ruling in TX. Multiple offending illegal immigrants living solely to leech on hardworking Americans. They deserved every pellet from that 12 gauge.

I agree Mark, you do try to uphold a high standard here. Except for when you battle with OS, in which case it turns into a garbagetalkfest.

I just got in and deleted a pile of messages frpm 7 pm onwards. And I have sent three people to Exile Island for a day's rest. They seem to believe this isn't a comments thread at all, but their own personal chat room, where they can make all the posts and talk about any damn thing they like.

I'm not one of those people who thinks having a lot of comments is a good thing. I'd rather have fewer comments that are on topic, respectful, and free of juvenalia. I hope that our Gang of Three will think about that as they enjoy their stay on Exile Island, and will return with a newfound respect for others, and for the rules of what is a comment thread on cable news topics, not a stream-of-consciousness chat room smorgasboard set up as their personal playground.

Danny (and others),

John Kasich is the best! That, I believe, is why the Factor did so well.

As I watched tonight, I wondered why he is no longer on Fox permanently (he used to host "Heartland" on Saturdays, until FNC dumped him for the seeker of Al Capone's vault). I guess he works on Wall Street now. I hope it was his choice to leave, because FNC made a HUGE mistake if they dumped him for Geraldo!

Kasich is apparently going to run for governor of Ohio at some point. I hope he wins so he can gain executive experience to run for President. Seriously - I think he'd be great! He's the kind of guy we could get fired up over; he seems to have passion. And he's a solid conservative, from what I can tell.

Grammie, I don't know if you saw this post from Johnny, but for it, I've decided to will to him all my cooking equipment , ccok books, and collection of 1950's made-in-Japan Christmas kitsch figurines:

"OtM, if you want to keep making charges about OlbyWatch, you should take them there and address them to the site manager. It is especially infuriating that you do it here, where he doesn't see it, and that your claim of an "ideological purge" is simply a bald-faced lie. I happen to know for a fact that of all the registrations received for commenters at OW, not one has been turned down for ideological reasons. In fact, not one has been turned down, period. There are to this day vigorous exchanges of opposite points of view there, minus the once-traditional sock puppets, crass vulgarities, and fictitious persona.

I wholeheartedly support what was done at OW to keep the spam and revolting vulgarisms off the site. For you to call it some sort of ideological purge is both ignorant and dishonest. Particularly given your own history of creating multiple identities and fomenting pretend debates between them in order to bog the site down in profanity and subject matter other than that of Olbermann.

So I don't want to hear any more from you about Olbermann Watch or purges. Your own hands at that site are anything but clean, and you know what I am talking about. Please get off the subject.

The theory I have about Olbermann vs. Huff-Po is that they weren't particularly thrilled with his treatment of Hillary Clinton, and when he went on to accuse Huff-Po writer Rachel Sklar of stalking him, they grew downright incensed.

Missy,

I agree with you about Kasich. Before coming to this thread, I voted for him on the poll. I never used to like Geraldo, but I have come to respect him for his honor of our military. He has visited Iraq and Afghanistan often, and I believe in his sincerity when he interacts with them.
