FOX news is not a joke, and MSNBC presents FOX News with solid competition. Several times a week MSNBC, Olberman especially, best FOX in ratings. Overall, FOX has significantly higher ratings among those who turn in for 5 minutes or less. Ratings, of course, say nothing about ethics, integrity, quality -- but they are a good measure of how America is getting informed for good or bad.

After bashing Fox News for being partisan (which is debatable-they have conservative talking heads than other stations, but that doesn't necessarily color their actual news reports), none of you have contended the undeniable fact that Keith Olbermann is partisan. Any news from him is coming from a skewed perspective. Whether Fox News is conservative or centrist, at least they don't confuse their talking heads with their journalists.
As for sending their "best weatherman and Miss America" to reply to Olbermann, I can't blame Fox for sending out their B-team. Morning shows are completely unserious, and so are Mr. Olbermann's long-winded, self-important rants. On Monday, O'Reilly had his hyped McClellan interview. Also, percentage-wise, O'Reilly's younger audience is only 15% of his total audience, something that doesn't bode well for him. Olbermann is neck and neck with him in the demo and has a high percentage of younger views.
Summary: O'Reilly = a high percentage of older views that don't bring in revenue
Olbermann = a high percentage of young viewers who bring in money and who are the future of this country.

One example of Olby hypocrisy that sticks out concerns Michelle Malkin.
Some group at UC Santa Cruz were protesting military recruiters. In her blog, MM discussed the story and published the cell phone numbers of the groups leaders, on her blog.
Olby didn't like that, excoriated her on the air for doing it, and drove his left wing KOS buddies to publish her home telephone and home address. Olby NEVER criticized the group for listing her home phone and home address, even though she received death threats to her and her children by phone and mail.
Keith was OK with that, but not OK with MM publishing the cell phone numbers, which she copied from the USSC groups own published press release on their protest.

Bill O'Reilly has been building his brand for over ten years; Olbermann's niche of taking on Bush started getting notice around Katrina...under three years ago. They're trying to take him out...and it's just making him stronger.
