Well, that guy did give Greta a cheap shot, but considering that she's the one who so radically altered her appearance, how unexplainable can such an observation be?
Being a rude unkind bastard isn't the same as being a sexist or a misogynist.
Greta's thoughts about sexism might be better asked of the industry where she plies her trade. THAT industry seems to be one where a brilliant and experienced woman feels that she must alter her face rather than working the assets she has in the way Julie Banderas works what God gave her.
If Greta is concerned about sexism she doesn't have to go as far away as Mr. Souhan to find it.

I could not agree with you more. The emphasis on a woman's appearance, while the focus remains on a mans knowledge, education, analysis and credentials is no friend of equality.

Well, to be accurate it's an appearance oriented industry for men too.
The late Jerry Nachman once joked on his MSNBC show that he only got an in-front-of-the-camera gig because the channel was desperate. Nachman was a veteran reporter/writer.
There is a certain logic about appearance mattering in such a visual medium. There is the fact too that there are women who are good and who are not beautiful, who have let their talent stand on its own-- Andrea Mitchell and Candy Crowley come to mind.
My point was that if Greta is concerned about such standards of appearance and the loutish cracks of some distant colleague, perhaps she should have taken a stand, confronted her industry on her terms, as have Crowley and Mitchell.

Something that seems to have escaped notice yesterday. Friday's numbers show The Factor was #1 in its time slot, but this was without O'Reilly or Laura. E.D. Hill was hosting. I was mildly surprised that Olbermann couldn't beat The O'Hill Factor, but perhaps Friday nights lend themselves to unusual audience numbers.

Not meaning to start a fight here, but take note that Ms Crowley and Ms Mitchell do not work for Fox. I have noted several times here that Fox seems to be eager to exploit women's legs and cleavage.
When Ms Van Susteren left CNN for Fox,she had surgery in the interim. A local RW talk-show host had a day's discussion focused on Ms Van Susteren changing her appearance. The consensus from the callers (and the host) was that it was very important for a woman doing news to "look like a fox" (I don't know if the pun was intended).
Men have it much easier in terms of appearance. How else would you explain Jack Cafferty and Lou Dobbs.

It was KO commenting on the fact that he and Chris Matthews double as news anchors on election nights.
If FNC placed BOR as a news anchor on even one election night, KO would go on a rampage, the Bassetts would scream louder than Krakatoa roared, and Nancy Pelosi would have another reason to resurrect the Fairness Doctrine, so government can decide what gets broadcast.

I occasionally take verbal abuse from people I work with, people who believe their delusions. But that does not apply here.
I have refrained from answering your taunts out of respect for the rules of this blog, trying to maintain at least a passing adherence to staying on topic. But I've about had it.
How far back should I go,Danny? You posted "Broadcast news is also downplaying the danger of a nearly inevitable nuclear holocaust."This led to a discussion of risk, and indirectly the ease or difficulty of assembling a nuclear device. You posted a link to the UN.You also accused me of ignorance.
And even the next day,you continued to post criticism of my remarks about the Secretary Generals report, when you had posted the link.I had asked you if you thought the other topics of UN concern should also be covered by the media with as much intensity as the nucear issue, and you mocked the irrelevance of that. If you cannot follow the thread of your own argument then I cannot help you.
You also mocked a statement about isotopes. If you cannot understand the relavence of isotopes to the feasability of assembing a nuclear weapon, then is it any wonder that it is difficult to take your pronouncements about nuclear technology seriously.
Then yesterday you post another absurdity.I let it pass, since to correct your facts would have been O/T. But perhaps it will help you learn the limits of your knowledge.
First,to equate millionaire anchors and multimillion dollar corporations pinging each other over success is just silly. And you also do not understand the Hawthorne ExperimentsThe workers of which you speak were concerned with their base rate being lowered (I can tell you've never worked in a factory). They were not concerned with 'looking bad'.It was obviously a non-union shop.
So you can continue with your ad hominen attacks.I can't stop you,and apparently it's permitted. But mind your P's and Q's,and use the Google, because if you make any factual errors,I will help you fix them.

Since you bring it up, here is the link HF:
http://www.newshounds.us/2008/07/20/maybe_fox_news_needs_to_hire_fact_and_spell_checkers.php#more
The link was posted here earlier on another thread but it wasn't posted by Johnny.
Please point out to me where the word "education" appears in the graphic misspelled or otherwise.
I don't know if the graphic ever matched the article, but I know that that they haven't matched on over 24 hours.
This is what I find hilarious . . . much more funny than the simple misspelling of a word: If you look at the comments section, only two posters seem to have noticed that the article and the graphic don't match.
The other posters who comment before and after the two I mention seem to be oblivious to the fact that education is not in the graphic. None of them notice that the "emperor has no clothes." Even after it has already been pointed out.
One more bit of evidence that the majority who post at Newshounds are either sock puppets employed by the site or mind numbed zombies, who have totally lost the capacity to observe or think for themselves.
Thanks for bringing this up HF. This is priceless!!

NVH,
You initially said that it would require a mountain of yellow cake which is wrong. Then you said that the firing mechanism would be too heavy. This is all wrong If you really think those things, I can't respect your opinions about suitcase or backpack bombs. Of course, this is all off topic anyway, and you should not have pursued it as far as you did. You were repeatedly warned not to.
You also misunderstand my aggravation with you over the Secretary Generals Report. If you had mentioned a subject that was in the report, and I ahd mocked you and said that you did not know what you were talking about and you used the report to show that you did, I would not accused you of misusing the report.
But no it was the other way aroudn. you kept after me about my nuclear weapon comment telling me that what I said was not credible and you went on and on and on . . . even after you were warned not to. So I used the report to say that the danger was credible. When you saw your argument failed, you obnoxiously and tediously started going through the report item by item saying cable news should talk about this item . . . cable news should talk more about this item. If you can't see that your conduct was really obnoxious, I guess there is no use trying to explain it to you.
Also I don't see why the analogy I used was improper. The employees had a pack mentality. They had an under the table agreement concerning their production. If a fellow worker would not go along with the pack, they would bing him.
Its the same with other networks. They had a pack mentality about what news to cover and how. It was easy for them to follow the pack. When Fox news refused to go along with the pack and offered a superior product Fox was and is binged. If you cannot see the analogy, it says far more about you than it does about me.
I have already explained to you what exactly it is about your behavior that I am not happy with. Although it hasn't very often . . . when someone behaves as badly in real life as you have, I (referring to one of your earlier comments) generally asked them to stop. And you may not believe this, but I haven't had my clock cleaned once.
But you . . . considering your truly abhorrent obnoxious and deliberately rule breaking behavior . . . If you do this in real life I am truly surprised that someone hasn't beat the tar out of you already!

Vince will hate me for being an OCD killjoy, but can we get back on the topic of cable news, please?

HF,
I wasn't referring to the graphic at Crooks and Liars. I was referring to the one at Newshounds at the link I gave earlier. Education does not appear in the graphic. You have to have special Newshound zombie blinders not to notice.
What happened at Newshounds is far more hilarious than what you brought up.

And because I'm commenting in here, I got distracted from "The Factor" and will have to watch "Is It Legal?" later without distraction. I think you guys just enjoy the joust, always choosing to acknowledge people that would otherwise go away if you just reported them to Johnny in private.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the Palm Beach Post lady lied about who'd be on "The Factor" tonight.

But you will admit I'm right...It was misspelt.
Mike C...Don't panic you didn't miss much...The highlight was a censored video of Jacksons boob...Bill did say he was in the CBS both at the time of the flashing.

HF,
Yeah, if you will admit that the emperor-has-no-clothes behavior at Newshounds is much funnier.
Mark Twain once said that it is a small mind that can only think of one way to spell a word.
Guess Fox News people aren't small-minded.

And so what? Typos on news chryons are so commonplace that ICN stopped reporting on them because he was getting too many submissions.
This one is only a big deal because it was Fox (and naturally Olbermann whipped it up into some sort of attack-Democrats expose tonight). The hypocritical plastering of this story all over the internets reveals much.
If you're going to talk typos, you might as well talk real typos:

J$....I'll point you to my answer earlier (below)..."Anyone could have done it."
I know everyone makes mistakes...Even the Mighty BBC...They interviewed the wrong guy  So mistakes happen....No need to get so up tight about it.

That one's a corker...But just a mistake...But I'm sure Fox found an ulterior motive for it at the time....JOKE

I'll bet my last dollar patsy never made a peep when the drooler called obama 'osama' and when it was put on the screen the same way. Not a peep.

"Nuking comments" is widely understood terminology on forums/comment sections. There are even programs developed to automate it on any PHP blog/forum:

Good point, OS. Which group do you think would use a nuke "against us", terrorist appeasers or terrorist hunters?

Johnny, I have neglected to tell you Newshounds' most blatant example of hypocrisy and cowardice recently. It involves the passing of Tony Snow. It's on their thread "Bill O'Reilly predictably clouds time of tribute with anger". Somebody pointedly asked them why oh why did they feel compelled to close entirely the comments on the thread announcing Snow's death. One of the poodles replied they simply posted the news as a public service and didn't want to turn that into "a three-ring circus".
So I asked them, "THEN WHY DIDN'T YOU DO THE SAME THING REGARDING THE PASSING OF TIM RUSSERT?"
They deleted the question as "irrelevant".
Unbelievable cowardly. And I said so later. Check out their archives.

The most analytical sound and cogent argument award goes to the Farmer for his link between Steve Doocy critcizing Barack Obama for not going to Iraq, then critcizing him for going. The standard for such visits has been set very low when John McCain was prompted by the other two members of the Three Stooges on his most recent trip. Perhaps next time John McCain can check up on progress along the Iraq-Pakistan border. I am sure Steve Doocy will not even notice, McCain 2008 spokesman he is.

Well maybe, if that happened. I'm not convinced that it did. And no argument is sound or cogent if it's based on false data.

One final note in here: Ms. Wolfe updated her article noting John Fund was the guest and Edward Lynch merely researched the story. If my calling out 5 1/2 hours ago had anything to do with the update, glad I could help.

Kelly Wolfe's revised article has made it to--wait for it--today's O'Round The World news links on BillOReilly.com. What a turn of events after I [likely unfairly] accused her of lying and attacking BOR.
