But one thing I am going to insist upon and that's that the comments stay on topic and remain relatively civil.

Nothing like a good laugh to get your day started.
Looks like little john t is somewhat sensitive and has engaged in a cat fight with one of the other Puppies.
The laughs just keep coming.

On last night's HARDBALL, Matthews covered SNL's satire regarding Biden and Obama but failed to ccover what they did at his expense.
I suppose the loin-cloth clad Obama daydream hit too close to home for Matthews.

"My observation is that we have become a genuine online , to an extent on the Mains but even more so because we have the O/T. Organic, evolving, with all kinds of connections amongst ourselves. J$ and his blog make for little more than an ego cult by comparison. We're an ecosystem. He's a porch light, drawing a half-dozen or so moths to flutter around his dim bulb. "

I really do owe an enormous debt of gratitude to ET for enlightening me. I had absolutely no idea of the growing, well nigh overwhelming, international and prhaps even planetary importance (almost let the Freudian (?) typo "impotence" sneak by) of the J$ Homage Site!
Oh well, time to resume my mothy flitting around the dim bulb that is J$. That is if I can just stop laughing long enough.
ET, I mean no real harm to you. I am quite sure that when you have control over those bouts of grandiosity and meglomania you are really quite a lovely person.

O'Reilly was rather reasonable in his "Talking Points" regarding the hostage rescue this past weekend, taking a moderate position and critiquing the domestic political extremes' reactions.
I am sure the hounds will not make such an observation. Fox News is the rightwing propaganda team, don't ya know.

Dittos for the evil Bernard Goldberg on The Hannity Show expressing essentially the same opinion, which Hannity disagreed with.
With one or two minor exceptions I thought Obama handled the situation not only quite well but also victoriously.
I thought he would have done better at the end of the Presser the other day to simply acknowledge the situation and make a simple statement along the lines of everyone who should be involved are working together but that he would prefer to address it at a later time.
I also thought that the shoot to kill order should have been issued far earlier and not solely dependent on the status of Captain Phillip's safety. I could very well be mistaken but that could have led to Captain Phillips becoming just one of hendreds of hostages being held in Somalia itself.

I just came across an article at News Busters about the Hannity and Goldberg discussion last night:
Goldberg Warns The Right: Avoid Obama Derangement Syndrome
http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/04/14/goldberg-warns-hannity-avoid-obama-derangement-syndrome
There is a link in it to a very good David Horowitz article re what he identifies is the right wing strain of BDS, Obama Derangement Syndrome.
Definitely food for thought.

Cee, I am in full agreement with you on this one. On Sunday night, I heard Bill Cunningham make a fool of himself since he refused give "Barack Hussein Obama" any credit for the rescue. Then I heard how the Huffpo people and others are blaming all this international piracy on global warming, American greed, and heaven knows what else. Crew all that.
Let's enjoy this rescue together, people.

Thanks for the link, Grammie. I also agree with you, Cee, and Bernie Goldberg. Bill calls people like that "Obama-haters," but Obama Derangement Syndrome sufferers sounds more like it. I disagree with the President on some things, but I don't hate him and I'm not going to not give him credit for anything. That's just dumb. And every time I see that on display in Facebook status update comments for certain media personalities or conservative commentators, it's so frustrating.
I tried to stay on the topic of cable news there, but it was hard.

I think Obama allowed the right thing to happen whether he had to do it by law or not. However, it wasn't a victory of his first foreign policy test as many media outlets claimed. The first real test was the N. Korean missile firing.
Mike C, I never saw Kyra Phillips before I watched one of the ICN videos with her today. Gonna have to disagree with your vote there.

I came across this comment by Dirty Sanchez in a discussion of what cable channels (Nick et al) beat FNC so they can't be that good.
"Dirty Sanchez 4 hours ago
Good point. Libs are watching Sponge Bob and wrestling instead of MSNBC and CNN.
Maybe Olbermann should have pro wrestling and Sponge Bob on his show. He would kill BOR!!!"
KO gets less respect than Rodney Dangerfield.
Oh well, it couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

I don't hate the president either. I pray that God guides him and protects him, everyday.
I'm not a fan of some of his policies, to say the least, but in my neck of the woods, we're taught from kindergarten to respect the office.
Consequently, I've never been one to get worked up over politics.
Shelby Steele had a terrific piece in the WSJ, that basically lays down what any loyal political opposition should do.
Here's the link, if Johnny decides it's okay.

If you deem it inappropriate, Johnny, please read it, when you've some time, yourself. You'll find it interesting, I think.

Well no matter what Obama does or doesn't do, there is a media filter that spins it. I believe O'Reilly's commentary was on target and reasonable. I diagnose O'Reilly free of OBAMA DERANGEMENT SYNDROME (ODS).
On the other hand, Olbermann decided to dwell on the political aspect of the event and once again use it to marginalize his opposing ideological collegues. That did not surprise me. I diagnose Olbermann with OBAMA INTEMPERANCE.
Yes, the reaction of those in the media not in agreement with Obama ideologically is a valid story, however, the facts of the situation and the possible impact on future events and what the US's actions said about our values and intentions is much more important.
I agreed with killing the pirates and not negotiating with them. I support Obama in that correct decision...he did not limit the military's options. Does that qualify me as being free of ODS?
If there is an "ODS" afflicting rightwing pundits and right-o-center pundits, there must be OBAMA INTEMPERANCE afflicting those in the leftwing, left-o-center (and even some right-o-center) advocates. As consumers of media, we need to identify these poor souls and react accordingly!
JOURNALISTS should really be free of ODS nor should they be participants in the drunken orgy of Obama popularity....That later intemperance is the unfortunate growing reality for our democracy, IMHO. The words of journalists who have allowed themselves either disability need to be taken with a grain of salt.
