The government should funnel some bailout money to Cooper; throwing meaningless cash at problems is always the best solution. What would it take, Coop, $10M? 20? Let's give him $150M, that will ensure great ratings.

Re: Targets
I think Carlos Watson would have been a better choice for an MSNBC show than Ed Schultz.
I know with Ed, they hoped to go after the middle American populist types, but frankly, Ed really isn't a populist. MSNC should just continue to catering to urban liberals.
Watson is smarter and edgier than Ed, but that's not saying much, so is Pat Buchanan...

Cece, are you offering 5.25K, because I'm pretty sure 5.25 is less than 5K.
I can't afford 5K but I'd gladly watch Ben do it for free!

I'm confused now. FNC's Harris Faulkner apparently has a Twitter page, and has twittered that she's now on maternity leave. Didn't think she was pregnant.

I wouldn't read the web gap closing, as you say, as some indication of quaity, but as a port in the storm. Limbaugh without Clinton to bash was nothing. FOX without Obama to bash isn't much. It's about ideologically-driven people seeking affirmation, not facts, objectivity or quality.

Pat, your argument would have more teeth, if it wasn't the opposite we all heard a few months ago when the hate crowd said, "FOX was done because they wouldn't have Bush to defend anymore."
So which is it?
FOX was Number 1 when Bush was around, and is Number 1 with Obama around. What does that tell you?

The clip is classic Olbermann stupidity.
He and his MSNBC cohosts have been bashing heterosexuals for weeks now based on their sexual preferences AS A RESPONSE to their ideological positions....Two examples:
Miss California (with very misogynistic humor and disgusting jokes from Michael Musto)
The Tea Party Protesters (with the VERY repetative innuendo "tea baggers, ah, ha, uh, ha, they're TEA BAGGING, ha uh, ha, uh, uh," although I suppose such manipulation can be applied to both homosexuals and heterosexuals).
Bolling made ONE passing joke about Mr. Frank's sexual orientation and Olbermann shows indignation. A BIG, HUUUUGE BLACK POT calling a teenie weenie tiny kettle....
I suppose Keith does not consider there are degrees of hypocrisy. Also, I do not think Bolling ever made comments about MSNBC's coverage of the Tea Party protestors so calling him a hypocrite, specifically, is baseless.
But on to the larger, "pimple on nose" point.....
So in Olbermann's moral universe, heterosexuals are acceptable targets for frat house humor but homosexuals are not.
That paradigm leaves me scatching my head, as with most of what Olbermann believes.

On the money, INB!
However, I think Pat is correct in labeling FNC a "port in a storm".
It is the place you go if you want to hear both sides of an issue and to see liberal guests questioned from the conservative perspective, and conservatives queried from the standpoint of what is being argued from the Left.
Generally, in the media, whether the issue is the economy or it's interrogation techniques, conservatives are pushed to respond to liberal positions, and liberals are pushed to respond to further to the Left positions.

I saw Gibson on O'Reilly last night and hardly recognized him.
The longer hair and the goatee thing, along with his skin color being a dead match in shade with both, makes him look like he should be wearing Amish attire and driving a buggy.

Actually, Cee, I think the days long tea bagging jokes at MSNBC, were the sort of thing we saw at on the JD Sucks thread, where the guys there implied that some male posters here are gay and at least once, used the word "fag".
If FNC had used such double entendre (Dick Armey... etc.) towards Democrats, the channel would have been accused of making heinous anti-gay slurs by the same talking heads on MSNBC.

The l'il feller (the man-child) used the f word many times. He's a true homophobe, but the kennel dwellers just loved him.
Your last comment about "if FNC..." is spot on. But we'll never know because FNC will never do it. They keep their eye on the news and leave the pee pee jokes for MSNBC.

I never made such an argument, I'm not Blue, and I would find it incredible. If FOX were more news-oriented, it would not necessarily fare well in a an era during which the political ideology which colors its news were descendant. In fact, precious little air time is devoted to news. In that sense, it is more MSNBC-like than it is CNN-like. FOX's programming is conservative, right-wing commentary. That is the power of the programming. It appeals to a descendant, but very tightly defined political ideology, a small but virulent section of the American poliical spectrum, but an important segment of the cable news viewing subculture. Bush was out of favor with this group during the last two years, and FOX did not find value in shedding its ideological skin. No surprise to me FOX prospers when it targets an ascendant ideology and an Administration desipised by this subculture. Of course, the fact that FOX is disengaged itself from news of this Administration, merely helps built the esprit de corps of the subculture.
I'm not sure you've added anything, Cecelia, but I may not understand what you are saying.

Pat, you've made an extremely tendentious argument here, but I do agree with some of it.
From the liberalism of Uncle Walter to the fact that even now, few MSM members could argue any position accurately from a conservative point of view, conservatives have historically been short-shifted in what is by and far a media more liberal than the general public.
This was true under the many successful Republican presidential elections of the last fifty years , the 90's era Republican revolution in the House and Senate, and continues with the pendulum swing that we see now.
That they do cover all sides is why FNC has been so economically viable in the marketplace.
It's also why that of the cable networks, FNC is most balanced in its audience than is CNN and MSNBC.
FNC reaches the conservatives who will never hear Brian Williams elucidate on a policy of giving tax credits to individuals for health insurance premiums, and it reaches average Dems who are not "virulent" lefties unable to tolerate a channel that would treat conservatism as being on par with liberalism.
BTW-- you'd be wise not underestimate your opponents or to act as though their ideas are so out of the mainstream. That's the stuff of tater tot sports fans, rather than serious discussion.
