J$P Video! An elderly woman tells Fox she is still trapped in her home. Enter Geraldo.

From Fox News Live, September 4 2005:

71-year-old Florita Greve told Fox News on the air that she was trapped in her home (Inside Cable News blogged the details of her conversation). Geraldo Rivera heard her plea for help and responded [QuickTime video; allow file time to load]:

Later on Sunday Fox showed this woman with a policeman who was dragging her dog behind them. It was horrible. The 71 year old lady's dog was too old to walk the lady has said previously and then you see it collapse and the policeman just drag it on its side at first then on its back. Even Geraldo had said how shaky the older pet was and he carried it. There was no water in there home. At least in their home the pet "Dusty" was safe and had food and water. Did the dog die? How far did the policeman drag the dog? Fox broke to another story once they saw what was happening. Did anybody else see this footage Sunday night?

There was no water in their home, but at least at home the dog had water? I'm not exactly following this. She called because she wanted to be rescued, not just to pass the time of day.

I too am looking for an update on Dusty. To see the dog so close to safety and then the dragging without notice from the officer. Please if anyone has an update on Dusty please post it.

We really do need to know what happened to the dog. Could the man not know that he was dragging a "heavy load" instead of walking a dog. Why did Floritta make him walk anyway.

Geraldo reported that a family in Ohio had agreed to take in Florita and her dog. So they may be there by now. Here's a picture (4th one down) of the police officer with Dusty...it doesn't look like he's dragging the dog:

Geraldo just announced on O'Reilly that Dusty is safe and well - he has received many e-mails asking about the dog.

The picture you provided was taken just before the dog fell over. There was 30 seconds of dragged dog--the reason for all the e-mails; but all is well and they are both safe so we won't do any more finger pointing.

I too saw that Dusty had become entangled in his leash and was being dragged. That image has haunted me ever since. Last night Geraldo said that Dusty was okay. I would like to see an updated photo.

This is such a CLASSIC example of media personalities using real people for their own gain. Geraldo went into a TOTALLY SAFE PLACE, placed himself center stage, and then proclaimed how great he was in "rescuing" this woman. Unfortunately, and probably never to be seen again, the poor dog nearly got killed in the process. Nobody cared, because it was about Geraldo, not humanity, or even dogs. He is the poorest excuse for low-life scum that exists. It's a national shame that he represents all of the Maury's and Jerry's out there. And those are the people wanting help from their beloved, fake, media-country.
While all shift blame, I look straight at the so-called media talking heads. They are representative of the true problem.
If anyone has some video of poor "Dusty the Dog", who nearly got choked to death to feed Geraldo's stupid-ass ego, let me know. It was one of the best social commentaries I've seen in decades.
Geraldo probably paid the sources off to never show it. Too bad. It was perfect. He isn't. He is a fuckwad.

Save Dusty
Wow, lots of clueless-ness in that last post, all of which successfully demonstrated by the author.
Now, a little more back on topic…
It has been well reported that Dusty (and Owner) are fine. I have the video (Tivo) and will edit/post at my earliest opportunity. Now, I’m a devout animal supporter, have many of my own and would never want to see one suffer, but that has got to be the funniest damn piece of video I have ever seen.
Paul, miss those meds today?

A devout animal supporter with the thoughts that it was the funniest video ever seen. You should recheck the meaning of a devout animal supporter.
Is it Paul that needs the meds? I don't think so.

Dusty (Floritta's Dog)
Ruff Ruff,
I'm fine. But I really want someone to post on the web the video of me being dragged around like that.
I've hired an attorney and we're going to sue, but I need that video (especially since so many people thought I was funny).

Ya know, the dog dragging has nothing to do with Geraldo. A POLICE officer apparently dragged the dog unknowingly, but its great to point fingers and assume, "Hey, Geraldo does work for FOX, so he must be at fault for this officers actions."
Why not blame Geraldo for hurricane Katrina completely... I mean shoot, everyone seems to want to blame Bush and Greenhouse policies for it, so why not... anyone that has a sense of morals and family values, that reports the truth and not some padded agenda must ALWAYS be at fault.
More fabricated garbage to make themselves look good... a blatent potshot at anyone working for FOX.
And frankly, I too am an animal lover, but frankly, to waste your time posting about a dog being dragged, as if the officer did it on purpose? None of you were there, you don't what was going on, but its easy to see some footage and jump to conclusions... the dog is NOT DEAD... the got dragged BUT NOT FOR 30 SECONDS like everyone is exagerating it. But honestly, who cares?
This was a DEVISTATING hurricane... lots of stress, confusion, etc... the main focus, as it should be, was on the saving of HUMAN lives... I love animals, but no matter how much of a family member you consider them, their lives are secondary to human.
Geraldo went to save BOTH human and k-9, and he did just that... Yet someone here had the nerve to call her house a "SAFE HOUSE"... were you there? Did you see the conditions she was in? Maybe because she is white she doesn't deserve to be saved? I mean frankly thats all I here these days where blacks are concerned. "Oh my God, we have a city that is 67% black, and has a nearly 60% poverty rate, what do you know... but it must be racism that is causing them to not save the black folk!"
Come on, this whole media frenzy just sickens me... frankly, if all the news agencies put together, less FOX news, were to go off the air, nobody would be any less informed.
After all, FOX has higher ratings each and every month than all the other news agencies put together, so how on earth is that possible if they are shave artists that twis the truth and pad their stories? How indeed... could it be that they are the only NON padding, lying, self obsorbed, egocentrical elitist club in the news industry? Hmm... what a concept!

The dog is safe and being cared for, see Gerlado's comments on Bill Oreilly's show. Geraldo got his feet wet and made a difference, alot more than the New York Times did. The Times would rather sit back and take pot shots at news outlets that don't fit their mold.
