John Gibson fires back.
From The John Gibson Show, June 1 2007 Gibby responds to Media Matters and Think Progress [mp3 audio]: ![]() Note: The comment about "the bit we did earlier" refers to this. posted: Fri - June 1, 2007 at 11:24 PM j$p  send Fox Fan You could always ask Dr. Phil the Giant Baboon Face at http://www.oogabooga.org/ if "ooga booga" is racist. June 2, 2007, 1:12:07 PM EDT – Like – Reply sknabt Okay, J$, just for fun I'll play the gotcha game the way you like to play it. As I understand it from observing you, I should post something like the following in response to your statement "Fox haters attack": J$, I'll bite. Where's Media Matter's or Think Progress' hatred in their brief post on Gibson? http://mediamatters.org/items/200706010003 http://thinkprogress.org/2007/06/01/foxs-john-gibson-on-the-tb-man-story/ Nowhere in Media Matters' or Think Progess' posts do they editorialize at all. June 3, 2007, 10:47:21 AM EDT – Like – Reply sknabt Now, we all use from time to time the debate tactics I employed in my previous post. And those minor, nip around the heels sort of posts do serve a purpose in enforcing honesty and accuracy. But the real problem with them - if thats all there is to ones argument - is the big picture is lost. Because, while Id certainly like to see you clean up your bad habit of baseless personal attacks, the real point is the honesty, integrity, and spin of Fox News personalities - in this case John Gibson. Ooga booga fever appears to have set off a national panic, claims Gibby. Really? What national panic? Gibby has blank air time to fill, ratings to boost, feelings of self-importance to inflate, conservative fans to stir up, and straw men to construct. And when Gibby builds a straw man he does it right. Here he builds a veritable King Kong: Today the left-wing blogs erupted calling me a racist over the invented disease I called ooga booga fever, he claims. Later he asserts, Media Matters is going after me. Think Progress is going after me. Now, Media Matters assures - assures me - the fact that Media Matters has taken me on and put my picture up there and quoted ooga booga fever as being racist - it's guaranteed I'm going to be the Worst Person in the World. If you go to the links provided in my previous post, the term racist is nowhere to be found in either Media Matters post nor Think Progress. For example, heres the entirety of what Think Progress staff says on the topic: Foxs John Gibson on the TB Man story: Usually its someone from the third world or who contracted ooga booga fever in some godforsaken hellhole. Oh yeah, those sure are words inciting a national panic. To justify Gibbys feelings of persecution, his sidekick quotes Think Progress as saying ooga booga fever This summarizes the entirety of Republicans knowledge of science. Think Progress, as Ive quoted above, said nothing of the kind. Gibby and his buddy are quoting a commenter identified as Oversight is a Bitch. We have no idea who that person is. His sidekicks also quote Tom3 on a blackface quote and Badwoodman for a Americas Crazy Uncle quip. Again, these quotes are attributed to Think Progress when, in fact, theyre posted by people commenting on Think Progress post. At one point Gibby asks his cooperative sidekick, how many liberal websites are "trashing" him on this? Its a fair question considering its a national panic. Sadly, the response comes back just Media Matters and Think Progress. Gibby is kind enough to expose the latest 'secret' conspiracy theory surrounding Media Matters. Previously, it was accepted by the Fox faithful, as preached by O'Reilly, it's a puppet of Geroge Soros. Now, according the Gibby, it was "invented by the Hillary Clinton campaign." I'm waiting for Cavuto to weigh in it was backed by Hugo Chávez all along. The real question isnt whether or not Gi June 3, 2007, 11:15:31 AM EDT – Like – Reply sknabt Again, your crappy comments truncated another post of mine. I didn't pick this up in the preview which, I suspect, doesn't accurately reflect the restrictions on length. Luckily, it wasn't much in this case so I can reconstruct the last bit: The real question isnt whether or not Gibbys a racist. Its whether the mans credible at all. June 3, 2007, 11:21:18 AM EDT – Like – Reply johnny dollar Where's the hatred? Let's see. Calling him crazy? How about calling him a racist by saying he should do an act in blackface? I think accusing someone of racism qualifies. That is, if you assume that every last thing a hater says must not just be driven by hate but also contain specific hate in it. And don't try to tell me that Think Progress is not responsible for the comments that appear there. They moderate their comments; comments do not appear instantly but only after they get the green light. So they are responsible for what appears in their comments thread, ethically and, I might add, legally. But I really don't care if you think TP is responsible or not. The fact is, I said Fox haters attacked Gibby, and they did. Q.E.D. June 3, 2007, 11:26:51 AM EDT – Like – Reply Fox Fan Why would TP (appropriate initials) or MM even post stories on such a trivial matter? If Gibby is, as you say sknabt, trying to fill blank air time, how sad is it that two powerhouse far left smear sites take that "filler" and process their own "filler filler" out of it? Ooga booga, am I scaring you? Am I racist? You talk about straw man arguments a lot but fail to recognize the fallacy that "ooga booga" is nothing more than a boogey man's mantra and does not serve as basis for multiple smear sites to write articles about. I hope it does turn into a national issue so everyone can see how petty and desperate TP and MM are. June 3, 2007, 12:12:54 PM EDT – Like – Reply sknabt This is my SECOND attempt to reply to you, J$. Last night HaloScan decided to eat my previous attempt. A nice chunk of my life wasted I'll never get back. IMHO, you're a partisan tone deaf to conservatives, including yourself, trash-mouthing liberals while hypersensitive to liberals trash-mouthing conservatives. But, hey, that's human nature and we all suffer from this sort of thing to varying degrees. In your knee-jerk rage, I think you've lost focus on the point. Having legal responsibility for comments has absolutely nothing to do with espousing a point of view. Media Matters' and Think Progress' legal responsibility, IMHO, is to prevent illegal posts like death threats. IMHO, they have a moral responsibility to allow all viewpoints to be heard. Gibson is completely dishonest in representing the viewpoints of essentially anonymous posters as the viewpoints of the sites they post on. His sort of sham, misleading reporting should be condemned for the fraud it is. I could use the same excuse you used over on my website in defending posting this piece of rubbish to defend Media Matters and Think Progress. To wit, they just throw up anything that catches their fancy, whether or not they agree with it. But that's a wishy-washy cop-out. It's obvious to me it raised some eyebrows with them. It should. Gibby might have picked the term intentional hoping to stir things up (Rush does this all the time like running the "Barack the Magic Negro" song) But you can't dodge the fact that neither of their posts contained any Gibson-bashing editorializing - certainly no hate. Typical of the Foxies, they only tell their audience half-truths to stir them up. Gibby isn't honest enough to provide this context which puts the entire hate thing in a different light. I know you love to trash-mouth News Hounds so I risk here getting massive blow-back. They use the story to point out Gibby's hypocrisy in being so cavalier about racial sensitivity while savaging Rosie for her tasteless "ching chong" act. http://www.newshounds.us/2007/06/01/john_gibson_inadvertantly_reveals_casual_racism_again.php#more While you'll probably detonate over it as well as more examples of out-of-control liberal hate, their basic charge of hypocrisy is a legitimate discuss-able. Finally... sure, let's create a national debate. I can see it now on the front page of the American Spectator: "Gibson exposes despicable liberal anonymous commenters expressing hate." June 4, 2007, 7:53:18 AM EDT – Like – Reply johnny dollar I know you can't help yourself in rushing to the side of the newshounds, even to citing their article that recycles the despicable lie about Gibson and "white babies" (that was fomented and spread by TP and MM, if you're still wondering why they deserve to be called "Fox haters"). I guess it shows that, even when you have been caught misreporting what someone on Fox said (Adam Housley), you are still ready to embrace somebody else's misreporting, as long as it furthers your agenda. You're two for two. This is the basic flaw in using pretend "media criticism" of Fox as a front for ideological propaganda. Thank you for your comment. June 4, 2007, 9:15:58 AM EDT – Like – Reply Fox Fan "...you're a partisan tone deaf to conservatives, including yourself, trash-mouthing liberals" Where did johnny trash liberals? Perhaps a lying far-left lying smear site or three, but never liberals in general. "In your knee-jerk rage..." Can you point out this knee-jerk rage johnny had? I must have missed it. "While you'll probably detonate over it..." Try as you might sknabt, you obviously aren't provoking any kind of rage or detonations from johnny. June 4, 2007, 6:30:32 PM EDT – Like – Reply sknabt Fox Fan, if you can find J$ calling conservatives names like "pimp," "liar," etc. then I'll concede he's a "fair and balanced" name caller. All the hyperventilating about "I know you can't help yourself in rushing to the side of the newshounds [sic]" ignores the argument I made so you can build a straw man you think you can easily topple over. I'll defend News Hounds when I think you've gone too far trash-mouthing them. But, as you know, I also won't apologize if they flub something. And, from time-to-time, you make that point as well. A problem I have with you, is your juvenile, knee-jerk "liar" label you slap on them and other Fox critics, like myself. As I said, that sort of behavior speaks more of you, than me or them. News Hounds makes mistakes. I make mistakes. And even one day, J$, you'll actually shock me and admit to your own. I try to correct mine though I'm sure I'll never rub my nose in them enough to satiate your lust to discredit a Fox critic. News Hounds should own up to theirs when they become aware of them. To the topic at hand, I focused on News Hounds pointing out Gibby's hypocrisy on the issue because it's a valid discuss-able. It proves that Media Matters' and Think Progress' posts can promote legitimate debate. We disagree on Gibby's call on people of European descent to have more babies. It's something else that's a discuss-able, though I think that one's beat to death. I don't expect you to agree with anything News Hounds says. Certainly not. They criticize Fox News so you'll always rush to counter what they have to say. Which is fine because criticism from any side of the ideological fence is welcome in a debate. But, unfortunately, you're so thin-skinned regarding Fox critics you assume everything they say is a lie because you have a different OPINION. While you don't use the term "liar" in your latest reply, you're trying to make it look like I'm deliberately running around misrepresenting things. Which I know isn't true because I know my own motives. June 5, 2007, 8:15:24 AM EDT – Like – Reply johnny dollar > A problem I have with you, is your juvenile, knee-jerk "liar" label Really? You post at the newshounds frequently (more than you do here, and not to disagree with them either). Care to tell me how many times they've called someone a "liar" in just the past week? And how many times have you posted over there calling them juvenile and knee-jerk for using the term? Hmmm? > We disagree on Gibby's call on people of European descent to have more babies. Why do you and others continue to make that claim when the transcript shows he did not say that to "people of European descent" or :"white people"? The only reason I can figure one would continue to repeat such as defamatory claim is out of hatred--hence the term "Fox hater". Yes this has been beaten to death. Our quoting of the transcript of what he says beat your claim to death. But still it lives on--you repeat it, the hounds repeat it, and today Media Matters repeats it again! (MM uses their same trick of rearranging the order of what Gibby said, tossing in a "because", and changing the meaning of the sentence fragment they quote.) I don't like this sort of thing. It's dishonest. Meanwhile, I'll be watching for your posts calling the mutts to task for using that juvenile, knee-jerk term "liar". I'm just confused that this term has bothered you for so long, but you only seem to object to it here, not over at the kennel. Most perplexing. June 5, 2007, 9:20:49 AM EDT – Like – Reply Snarkley-Smythe Ultimately, the real question is: If you think Gibson the mouth breather has any talent or intelligence, should you be allowed to vote or remain in this country for that matter?
